Byron Leftwich blurb (1 Viewer)

Here's an interesting blurb I just noticed. Interesting that the agent specifically states that Byron hasn't asked to be traded, but goes on to state that he doesn't know if he wants to still play with the team or will report on 3/26. Just thought I'd put this out there for discussion. Here's the blurb.

Jaguars | Leftwich has not asked for trade

Vito Stellino, of the Florida Times-Union, reports the agent for Jacksonville Jaguars QB Byron Leftwich, Tom Condon, says Leftwich has not asked to be traded. However, Condon added he does not know whether Leftwich wants to continue playing for the team or if he will report for the start of the team's offseason conditioning program Monday, March 26.

It's pretty clear that he's not happy with the way things went down last year. Add to that the fact that he hasn't been treated fairly by a portion of the fan base since he got here. I don't think he'll want to stay in Jax after this year. I wouldn't hold it against him either.

Leftwhich doesn't deserve to demand a trade even if he wanted to. Play consistantly better and stay healthy, and THEN maybe you have reason to be discontent.

:lmao: The guy has alot left to accomplish before he gets a big head.Hopefully he keeps his cool and proves his worth by playing up to his potential this year.If not...

Is he an UFA after this year?

Yes, and he should be a hot commodity since the only major free agent QB for 2008 just got taken off the market (Schaub).

Does anyone think they might be better off dealing Lefty and rolling with Garrard and Quinn Gray? They didn't always look like they missed him last season...

Nope. Lefty does fine when he has time to scan the field and deliver the ball. With the commitment to two way OT's like Tony Pashos and Kalif Barnes, they have given Byron one final shot to prove himself. With Greg Jones back from injury fully, they will have a legitimate pass-protector in the backfield as MJD did not show a great deal of improvement in the area. In other words, its Leftwich's final chance. If Bryon cannot produce given the talent he has around him, they will probably be inclined to cut ties. Many would argue that Brian Brohm, QB Louisville, is the better QB in OC Koetter's system. If Jacksonville decides to pursue a WR on Day 1 of the draft, and seemingly he does not make much of a difference, I think the coaching staff will see what the issue is. Remember, the Jaguars have quite a bit vested in their offense- including three 1st rounds selections for Leftwich to throw at. If he can't produce, given the protection he will have this year, then its safe to say that he is the root of the problem. I fully expect Leftwich to have a very efficient season, if not overly productive, as the trend seems to be favoring a manager at QB and letting the RB trio run wild. Koetter, however, will insist on the vertical passing game and if he gets the blocking he needs, Leftwich is just the guy you want in that situation. However, the receivers, in particular Matt Jones and Marcedes Lewis (TE), will have to remain healthy through a full 16 games.
