Cadillac out of shop

RB Cadillac Williams passed his physical Friday and was cleared to fully participate in training camp.

Williams tore the patellar tendon in his left knee in the season finale against Oakland and spent the offseason rehabilitating. Two seasons ago, Williams ruptured the patellar tendon in his right knee, an injury that required a lengthy rehabilitation after surgery.

"If the season starts tomorrow, I'm good," Williams said.

Cadillac Williams feeling great after return

If there was any grumbling from Bucs players about having to wear full pads for the first training camp workout Saturday morning, it didn't come from Cadillac Williams.

The Bucs running back, who has recovered from a second torn patellar tendon in as many years, said he was so excited about returning to the field and was looking forward to contact.

"I was talking to my mom and told her, "I'm probably one of the only guys who are looking forward to training camp,'' Williams said. "I was excited as hell for training camp and a lot of guys don't get excited. But when you've been what I've been through, you're just ready to play some damn football.

"I felt great. It's just a blessing to be back on the field with all I've been through. I felt good and I'm just looking forward to the whole camp.''
It'll be interesting to see how he looks. Lots of RBs in Tampa right now, but if Cadillac can do anything at all, this has the makings of a great story.

Here's a Puff Piece from Pewter Report on Williams at the Bucs First practice: link

According to Bucs head coach Raheem Morris, Williams did well on Saturday morning.

"He looked good," said Morris. "I was fired up about him. To get out there and get off running like that, I can't wait to see him this evening."
"It's different, but my whole life I've faced steep competition," said Williams. "I faced it at Auburn and even before that. I'm coming out here and working hard as if I was the starter."

He'll be a great influence on the young guys and new guys.

115 yards and 2 TDs thru 3 quarters before he got hurt last year. He can and be a part of the gameplan if healthy...but I think and have always thought that he running style will lead to injury.

This guy really is a class act. I was about 10 feet away from him when he signed autographs for about 15 minutes. Guys like Antonio Bryant, and Winslow didn't sign a single one. He looks like he is picking up right where he left off, and he will just add more confusion to the full fledged RBBC. EG/ Ward/ Caddy/ Clifton Smith is probably the most talented backfield in the league right now.

Fantasy wise, Caddy can probably be had for pennies right now. He will undoubtedly outperform his ADP if he stays healthy.

And, he caught every pass Garcia threw him.

lets not go that crazy. Pitt is by far the best with Parker, Mendy, Moore, and Summers. Baltimore is still better than Tampa if we are assuming injured stars are blooming with Rice, McGahee, McClain, & Peerman. San Diego isn't bad if counting on LT with Sproles, Johnson, & Hester (who can play some RB). Not to mention Dallas (that trio is sick), Tenn (CJ, White, Ringer), Giants (Jacobs, Bradshaw, Ware, Brown, Miami (Brown, Williams, Cobbs), Oakland (McFadden, Bush, Fargas, Rankin), & the Jets (Jones, Washington, Greene, Woodhead) who all are higher on my list.

Caddy returning is pretty amazing, he must have been in rehab every day busting his tail to get back that soon. Pretty amazing. I hope he wins some PT

Maybe I got a little ahead of myself, but with a healthy Caddy they have 3 guys who have all been successful starters in the league. I think Clifton has a ton of potential, but it is going to be hard for him to get a lot of opportunity behind those 3.

Caddy sure does help with some depth, I agree. One of them has to be healthy for each game, you would hope...I'm not sure Clifton has loads of potential, at best he's a COP back

And let's not forget the Cardinals: Hightower, Wells, Wright, Stephens-Howling, Vincent.Uh, nevermind.

I'm pulling for the guy! Screw fantasy in this case! Just come back and have a great, healthy year.
Me too. Don't own him, haven't in a long time. I've argued against him being an elite talent before the injuries. But the way this guy keeps coming back is amazing and inspiring. I hope he takes the league by storm.

this clouds the TB running game a bit, FF-wise. but Ward is still the guy until Caddy can prove he can stay on the field.

this could actually help Wards' value.

I think your forgetting about EG. Caddy does much more than cloud this RBBC "a bit," he makes it an outright disaster for people projecting TB RBs. I definitely wouldn't say "Ward is still the guy."

no it's not, Caddy a) can't stay healthy

b) couldn't beat out pedestrian E. Graham last season.

c) has two very bad knees..

c'mon now..let's not kid ourselves here..this is a feel-good story for sure, but to think the guy is miraculously going to whip up a good season ( fantasy-wise or other) is just wishful thinking.

Ward got the $$ because he's going to be the guy..he can beat out EG in his sleep and is a much better all-around RB than Caddy is....

Caddy has had one somewhat 'good' season , 2005, where he ran for 290 times for 1178 yards , good for 4.1 per carry, and he's been very mundane ever since...for a guy who's avg'd just 3.8 per carry his entire NFL career, Caddy is borderline 'overhyped' at this stage..b-u-s-t is the one word that best describes him.

I wouldn't even be so sure the Bucs don't just cut him before the season starts..

he couldn't beat EG for the starting gig last season

watching Caddy get back on the field is going to be like watching John Travolta in 'the boy in the plastic bubble', you know, the point in the movie where he just says F-it, I'm living outside the bubble, whether its bad for me or not, and it eventually kills him..?

you know that watching Caddy is the same way: he's going to get cut, or get hurt, or get beaten out for the starting role..you pull for the guy, you want him to do well, but it's a Shakespearean tragedy..

 Could not beat out Graham, Caddy was not even active until week 12??

It is a long shot but he looked pretty good last year after a much more severe knee injury than the recent knee injury.

Fixed! Arrington and Young have both been released.

Ward has 342 total carries over 5 years.I like Ward, but he's not proven at all. I do think this season could set up better for him than either EG or CW, because the Bucs could be playing from behind a lot and Ward's the best receiver.

I know Caddy has little value this season, but haven't heard any news about him in the past 2 weeks. Is he still working in camp? Any chance he gets playing time in preseason? This could be a great story this year if he can make it back...

This is the guy with the bulging disks in his back right? I don't understand why guys like this just don't leave the game. It's admirable that he has worked himself back. But quit now while you can still walk. RB + bulging/slipped/herniated disks in the back is a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

ProFootball Talk is reporting that Cadillac has the starting job in Tampa: Link

"Carnell "Cadillac" Williams' remarkable comeback from his second torn patella tendon in as many years took a surprising turn Tuesday.

In a move sure to equally thrill Cadillac fans and annoy a nation of fantasy football owners, Bucs coach Raheem Morris said that Williams will start Thursday's preseason game as part of a three-man running back rotation including Derrick Ward and Earnest Graham, in that order.

Morris plans to roll out Caddy for two series, Ward for two series, and then Earnest Graham will play the fifth series. The order may change, but this is a plan Morris intends to keep heading into the regular season.

"If it works, that's what I'd like to do. I want to go into it with that thought," Morris said.

Ward got solid money in free agency, but it's clear Morris doesn't plan to use him as a true lead back. Williams has a chance Thursday to be a big part of the team's plans.

The Bucs held Cadillac out of their first two games as a precaution, so this is his first true test of whether his rebuilt knee can hold up to contact. If he passes, it appears a sizeable amount of regular season work awaits.

It was only a few months ago that conventional wisdom about Williams said he may not make the team or play regular season football again.

Conventional wisdom, as so often happens, didn't know a damn thing."
