Another quick explanation of the margin column. Its only how much better team A is than team B. Looking at the difference between the Saints (8) to the Chiefs (11) the difference is only .21. Look at these four teams as very very close.

What about thoes Jets!? They are waaaaaaaaaaay too high. IMO, they arent a good football team at all. Yes, they did go into New England and spank New England, but they arent as talented as everyone thinks. The Bengals and the Cowboys are much better than the Jets.

I'm having a difficult time appreciating the Packers being ranked so far beneath teams they have beaten.
They've beaten the Vikings (17), Dolphins (20), Lions (29), and Cardinals (32). Best win is vs the Vikings. The Vikings have beaten the Seahawks (9), Panthers (10), Redskins (24), and Lions (29).I look at the whole season, not one game.

Washington minus Clinton Portis.Carolina minus Steve Smith.Seattle minus Shaun Alexander (and Matt Hasselbeck for the second half).

Washington - not a very good team with or without Portis, and he was in the first half.OkSeattle has been winning without Alexander or Hasselbeck. ptts.

As much as it kills me to say this, I agree. the Jets are too high. I started at the botttom and looked up the list for them, thinking I passed them in the twenties. 14? c'mon. They're not better than the Vikings, Bengals, Falcons and Cowboys. Let's just say they're headed in the right direction...ETA: they got smoked by the team just two slots up from them, you mean to tell me they improved this much since that drubbing? no.ETA: They lost to Cleveland just last week!

1) None of the teams you mentioned have beaten a team better than the Patriots.2) All of the teams you mentioned have lost to a worse teams than the Browns (except the Boys, who lost to Was - only one spot better than the Browns).

So formula based on wins only, not quality of loses nor adjusted for away victories nor opponents injuries. Seems a crude tool. It will be interesting to see how it does. Some crude tools are effective.

Every win has a corresponding loss. This is factored in.

ok, so where are the Dolphins? They should be in the top 10 right? they beat the Bears. :sarcasm: trust me, I want the Jets up there. I just don't think 14 is justified by just beating the Patriots in NE. The Jets beat Chicago this weekend, then yeah, I'll say they've earned a number like 14 or better.

They've earned the 14th spot by beating the Titans, Bills, Dolphins, Lions, and Patriots. They'll likely earn a much higher spot if they add the Bears to that list.

With DVOA rankings out . . .
I don't think they are out yet. If you are looking at the Midseason Projections, those were done before the week 10 games were played.
You're right, I was looking at week 10. I'll edit.
Now we can do this. With the DVOA rankings out it looks like three games will count for comparing rankings.SD@DEN

STL@CAR

BUF@HOU
I would suggest using the weighted DVOA rather than straight DVOA. So you guys agree on CAR-STL and BUF-HOU. (Weighted DVOA counts recent games more heavily than the first few games of the season, and should be more accurate.) I'm not sure if that means there will be other games you disagree on.

well Berger, when you're right, you're right. I'm not saying CBS is the end all, but there is consistency with the Jets ranking. I stand corrected. (I never thought I'd be so happy being wrong :D )
