This is from PFT which I know is taboo to a lot of folks here because they like to make news, not break it but here's an update from Indy.

Caldwell vague about Colts' playing timePosted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 21, 2009 2:47 PM ETWe were pleasantly surprised last Monday when Colts coach Jim Caldwell definitively declared his team's plans for playing time against the Jaguars.Caldwell stayed true to his word, playing his starters throughout Indy's win over Jacksonville. (Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney had more plays off than usual, but had injury issues.)The Coach of the Year candidate was far more vague at his press conference this week. "Right now I could not tell you exactly what's it going to be, whether a guy is going to play one series or the entire game," Caldwell said. "I couldn't tell you that honestly right now."Caldwell confirmed that only a health issue would prevent someone from being excluded from the game. He's just making no promises about how long said player stays in. "We're going to prepare the same way we've been preparing all along," Caldwell said. "I think that's a very, very important part of what we do. I think that's why our guys have been able to stay sharp, and function and stay focused, and keep our edge, I think. And that's not going to change." Implicit in that statement is that how the Colts play against the Jets may change. We can't know for sure until Sunday, but it sure sounded that way.Maybe the fat man hasn't sung for the Jets, after all.
Maybe it's wishful thinking by me as a Peyton owner, but doesn't it seem like the Colts are doing and saying all the right things to lead us to believe they won't go after it, while still playing hard and winning games one week at a time? It's the opposite of what the Pats were doing at this time in 2007. It might just be crazy enough to work.Going for it or not going for it? That is the question!

I wonder if Caldwell's strategy could be to take the focus off the record? By addressing it the way he has, the team effectively CAN be going for it, but the team may feel less pressure and get less questions about it from the media because basicaly he is saying he doesn't really care and he is going to play guys if they are healthy but he will rest people if he feels it is in the best interest of the team. The whole media focus is different than if he said "We are going for it."

I almost like this better than if they just declared they were only going to play a half. I play my boss for the title next week and get so see him sweat out Manning or Garrard. I already emailed him the link to the PFT article.

Don't you know that it's not a good career move to play in the same league as your boss? Unless of course you let him win :goodposting:I'm thinking I may play one of Wayne or Clark, but not both. I have Finley as a replacement for Clark.

Wayne will be covered by Revis, so I think Clark's your guy. I could see Clark playing the Wes Welker role that hurt the Jets defense a few weeks back as Revis shuts down the WR1.

I thought about Revis, but I have better options at TE. Hell, I could play Finley and Clark. Hard to sit Wayne though. I don't care if it's Revis or not.

Meh. If the Colts are all going I'm starting Wayne. Revis is great, but the Jets haven't faced too many elite QB's this year and Peyton is on another level right now, he will kill you wherever you show weakness, it just takes one blown coverage as we saw with Jacksonville for a huge play, and the game is on the Indy carpet, where the Colts are pretty much unstoppable.

wel lthat coach speak tels us nothing. The colts have generally be pretty straightforward with this kind of stuff. I have no doubt if they were 13-1 that some players would be sitting.

But seriously how do you tell Peyton your not letting him go for a perfect season?

Plus, just maybe Caldwell would like to not be known as a Dungy clone and is his own man.

A perfect season would instantly set him a part as his own man. :X

I have the same decision of Clark vs Finley. I really hope we know more by the end of the week. Finley does have a great matchup vs Seatle, but hard to bench Clark having caught 5 TDs in 2 games.
