California grants drivers licenses for illegal immigrants (1 Viewer)

The law was signed by Jerry Brown today. It goes into effect on January 1. Over 1.5 million illegals are expected to sign up immediately.

This is ####### awesome. It's a great victory for reason over irrational discrimination! I admit I was totally wrong about Brown. Hopefully other states will follow CalIfornia's example.

Every time I begin to think about the logic in this, my head hurts...and I live in CA. WTF is wrong with this state? Totally unreal.

Don't hold your breath on other states following California. California should be called the lone wolf state.

The logic is that these people are here already and are presumably using their vehicles to go to work. If you're not going to deport them then they should be able to function like regular members of society.

<_<

I am sooooo glad I don't live there anymore. I've been gone 7 years and I haven't regretted a single second of it.

Yes it is terrible to get these people in the system and get them to at least get insurance for a short time.

Understandable to me. The states need to respond in some way due to the failure of our federal government.

It makes sense on so many levels. It's going to bring in tons of revenue into the DMV. Insurance companies will also make money giving new policies and it will decrease crimes. That will make OUR car insurance lower.

Most important of all, by welcoming these people into the legitimacy of our society, we work to decrease their alienation from it, which has grown so dangerously in the past few years. THIS is the way to treat illegals- with a helping hand.

Link?
Have you been to LA? Unless you're arrested you're not getting deported.

Now they're not even deporting people for minor crimes.

The California legislature, meanwhile, has approved a bill called the Trust Act, which limit local jurisdictions from cooperating on with ICE detainers, except in cases that involve violent act. That bill is now waiting for Governor Jerry Brown’s approval.

They're ILLEGALS. Why should they be able to function like regular members of society? They aren't supposed to be here.

And yet they are here and acting like that is going to change soon is silly.

Totally agree with you and I know things aren't going to change soon...or ever. But allowing people that are illegally here access to drivers licenses (or anything else) is ludicrous.

Yeah, the other part. Why should they be able to function like "regular members of society"? We should be discouraging illegal immigration, not encouraging it.

The "legal" people can start by filling those job demands.

They are supposed to be here. The laws that make them illegal are insidious and against the very clear intent of the founders of this nation.

As long as their jobs are above table and their paying their federal/state income taxes as per the IRS/CA requirements, give the illegal aliens whatever they need.

I have no time for the ones who don't pay taxes/pay into the benefits we give them. Otherwise I'm fine, just make sure it's an even playing field.

The ultimate endgame is to get the illegal immigrants to vote...at that point it is game, set and match politically...this is another step in that direction...

Probably ought to just disband the border patrol at this point.
Not necessary. What we should do instead is have open immigration for anyone who is not sick or a criminal.
This is kind of funny. First of all, why would you discriminate against the sick? Secondly, you're basically saying open immigration to anyone anyone except the iglegal immigrates aalready here.
First off there have to be public health considerations, and we don't want terrorists or criminals. Otherwise no exceptions.

Well I mean, it's not as if a R should ever expect to win that state to begin with.

But, if this movement gains traction in other states, 100% on point.

In order to have an even playing field we have to give them one.

The thing is, open immigration means everybody, not just Latin America.
Yes, yes it does.
And that's not necessarily a good thing.
Why not?
Because we don't have a way to screen out new terrorists other than national origin.

please. the end game is collecting the millions and millions of dollars that the gov't doesn't currently get from illegal aliens.

and illegal immigration is never going to stop because most americans are too ####### entitled to work hard and do the ####ty jobs that illegals do. much easier to collect welfare.

Sure it is...if the illegals get the right to vote than you can put a RIP sign on a two-party system nationally...if they can get some tax money to funnel into programs along the way that's a bonus but in the end it's about power as it usually is with politicians...

it's about money not power. no money, no power

Yes, yes it does.

Because it means the possibility of importing even more poverty, along with educational and language barriers to an already overburdened domestic economy. Then, the competing cultures for the low wage jobs that have no real skill and language requirement.

Guest worker programs solve this more than open immigration. Of course that just benefits business, and not really helping immigrants assimilate into American culture.

Obviously you have no idea what the definition of 'illegal' is. Of course, neither does the State of California, which is no surprise in both cases.

Auto Insurance and illegal immigrants?

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?
