Californication Season 4 thread... (1 Viewer)

this writing is getting really stale/repetitivesome good nudity in last week's episode with the nanny
Runkle has been carrying the show for a few seasons, imo. It's hard to care about what goes on with Hank and the Moody family anymore. That's not the worst thing though. I love Runkle. Give me him with a healthy dose of Marcy and Stu, and it's a very funny show.Obviously, it's never good when the main story line ceases to be compelling though.
Hank still makes me laugh but could very much do without the daughter and the bf.

Just started watching this on demand. Like 4 episodes deep into season 3 right now. Still amused by it.

:goodposting: Agree 100%. The worst part of the show is the daughter. She can't act and has not aged well. They should send her away to college and be done with her.

Another fun season. Happy to see it was renewed. Evan Handler should be dominating The Emmys. He is absolute money on this show.

This season has actually been decent. Certainly better than the prior couple. Though they could stand to give all the ### and crap references a rest once and for all. I think the showrunner guy might have some scat thing going on. I dig the Maggie Grace, though it took a minute to fend off images of her as the kid in Taken.

She'll always be Shannon "Lost" for me. Loved her skinny-dip scene. There's a definitely a sense of doing everything over and over with the show but I think the writing is very sharp and the performances (especially Duchonvy and Handle) are superb. I still enjoy the show a lot.

havent watched this show in a few years, is his annoying daughter and wife still part of the show?
Yeah and they're still annoying, but I've laughed out loud a few times already this season, something I don't think I'd done since the first season or two.

That dude tucking it back was the funniest thing I've seen in years. I think that was season 3.
That was last season. Karen's ex-husband and yeah that was pretty good.

Daughter has barely appeared so far this season.
Pretty sure she's had a scene in every episode. Regardless, she doesn't bug me as much as she apparently does others and yes, she's been less of a presence so far this season.

No, it was well before Karen married him. Like the first or second episode of the season that Hank was a teacher. Guy fell off the wagon and then went on to provide the 30 funniest seconds of television ever, capped off by diving out the window at the end.

I love that Showtime On Demand puts up the next week's episode so early. The new episode showing on Sunday is OD right now.

I finished watching season 5 tonight and was surprised there were two more seasons. I thought 5 was uneven overall but it did show Hank finally changing as a character and the ambiguous ending was perfect. To me that's what it should have been. Not sure if I want to want the last two seasons.

Well have fun then. The first few seasons are good, but after that it got a bit tiresome. For me, at least. Recycled plots, family drama, ridiculous situations, an annoying daughter on par with Dana from Homeland, etc. Good nudity, though. They always do that really well.

I wish they would have had an arc for Hank where he got his career together and it really took off with him becoming a real Hollywood heavyweight. Then they could have knocked him down again. Instead it's just been more of the same.

That doesn't sound good.

It's the same entertainment value as Entourage. Entourage never really took any big chances. I always wanted them to make Eric a big time producer while Vince's career goes in the toilet. Kind of flip the script. Plue E could have become a rival to Ari. Instead Entourage was more of the same year after year. I enjoyed the show but it could have been more. Californication is the same way.

If they added more to Entourage after the first few seasons, it could've went longer. It was one of my all-time favorite shows, but it dragged the last couple seasons.

I wish Hank would get it all together. Doesn't have to go sober but not a lush anymore. Have his career take off. Then have the ex want to get back together leaving Hank with a decision.

It's kind of odd. None of those guys have had any success besides the show. Piven has been working a long time but he got all his buzz from this role. They should bring the show back. Five years later, where are they all at?

They run back the same formula season after season and wonder why it becomes stale. Shake it up like I said. We like the characters and I doubt they are commanding much dough.

Doing a movie is silly. It's not a draw on that scale. Would fail. Another few seasons would be welcomed though. Be like Curb. Put together 12 good episodes every 2-3 years. Don't ever see the Entourage cast getting work.

Johnny Drama is one of my top 5 characters. Love the guy! VICTORY!!! Man, I forgot how much I miss that show. :( Always looked forward to it. Great mindless fun. I loved when Drama beat that guy's car with a golf club and the episode in the first season where they all went to a highschool pool party. Classic TV.

Those guys won't get much work. How many shows have they brought back after going off the air? I'm sure it's few. The movie is being made now. They waited way too long. People have already forgotten about it.

The upcoming 7th season will premiere in April. It will be the show's last, they will conclude the series after 12 episodes.

The dialogue in the season premiere tonight was absolutely superb. I'm encouraged again.

Good to see Imperioli too.
Agree with both. Strong opening episode.
Yep. Very pleasantly surprised. Fantastic for a show that seemed to be on fumes a few seasons ago.

Honestly, I'd thought the show has finished or gotten cancelled until it showed up on the DVR.

As long as the Runkle's are around, I'll be watching. Nice to see the rest of the show might be pretty good this season too.

I have decided they introduced the long lost son because Jar Jar Binks wasn't available.
Hard to believe we are going to have sit through an entire season before Hanks gets a paternity test done that reveals he isn't the father. Maybe something like he takes the kid to the hospital and he has some weird blood type that prevents Hank from being the father. Something lame.

Graham probably lying to everyone including the kid. Hank will say screw it and decide to keep the kid in his life. Karen will swoon that Hank has finally matured and will take him back.

The show has always been light on story but the great characters made up for it. But this year we traded the hilarious Runkle's for some weird kid and wooden-Graham.

So, Runkle's definitely going to screw things up with Marcy again right?

He can't get it up with her, and surely, his newfound knowledge that Chloe does it for him will come into play. Maybe an affair, maybe she catches him jerking off to a pic, or maybe he's somehow dumb enough to tell.

Ugh. I haven't cared what happens to Hank in quite some time, but I want thinks to work out for ol' Runkle.

She's not Jewish. He's not Jewish. But together they produced Jackie Mason Jr.?? Very odd choice.
