If they were hell bent on sitting him as most of you figure, why even test the ankle when they have a bye next week? Heck, why even travel? I seem to recall Gronk last year not traveling to road games he was deemed unhealthy for.
My view is that they are testing him out in hopes he will play. They had already stated that they are doing the decoy thing, and he has stated he will not play unless he is healthy and can contribute in a meaningful way.

He traveled because he is the only player that anyone in the UK knows by name. I doubt he plays, but he certainly went for the trip and the PR role of it.

"Testing" the ankle doesn't mean anything. It is part of the recovery process. You don't just rest until it is 100%. Activity is part of rehabilitation.
That said if he is ready to roll on Sunday he will be on the field.

Just because its ATL and its a perceived easy opponent doesnt mean you rest him.
Heck everyone thought Buffalo was an easy opponent and they beat the Lions.

I guess you didn't see the drills he was running before the game on Sunday in NO. The guy is trying to get out there and play. They have a really good team this year and he makes them better. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Too often Detroit would go into the locker room at halftime and Calvin would have 1 or 2 targets. Seems like a lot for $20 million next year. Please cut him in the Spring. He's not all about $. He will choose a team that will feed him the ball and be in the playoff mix. Drew Brees needs a new #1 WR.

Well Pettigrew is doubtful (although that could actually be a good thing for the Lions) and Ebron is out. ATL will focus on Tate if Calvin is out so he could decoy all day. This game has the makings of a 10-7 game. If I start Calvin and Matt Ryan, it's 10-7 Lions. If I bench both it's Lions 38-35.

Curious where or what the best source of info will be prior to the game?
ESPN or whatever channel it will be on. It will be a hot topic before the game so no worries.

I think Calvin has too much pride to play and decoy ... so that's off the table ... if he puts up a 0 he will no be in the lineup

Saw him on the NFL ch running around without a brace. He was shifting and accelerating like nothing was wrong. Now he is questionable and maybe doubtful? Suckage my friends pure fantasy team kill!

Sitting him will assure that there are no more excuses after the bye. Do I want him to play this week so I can shmurda my opponent? Sure. But I would much rather him be 100% over this crap so he can lead me to the promised land when it really counts. Thought for a second the Lions were playing games with the Falcons and that he would be ready this week. But big picture, I don't mind him sitting this one out one bit. Let's put this injury behind us so we can get back to putting up 30 a game. As Megatron goes, so goes Stafford and he's my starting QB. I need Mega healthy. Now.

I agree, he hasn't swallowed up his pride to be a decoy since way back in week 5.
I have no idea what's going to happen tomorrow. I'll just tune in for the pregame hoopla like everyone else.
I'm sure he was making that trip, playing or not, for PR purposes. I'm also sure he's going to give it a test in the pregame warmup.

Week 4: 2 Targets, 2 catches for 12 yards
Week 5: 1 target, 1 catch for 7 yards
Week 4 and 5 = Decoy.

Can't do it this week. Way my league is set up is that you carry points over to a players bye week. He throws a goose egg by trying to go out and play on it I get dinged twice. Throwing Sanu in and hoping.
