Johnson has been sidelined with a thumb injury for a while now. With fantasy drafts coming up, does anyone have any insight as to how much longer he might be sidelined with the injury?

They are just being extra cautious with it. I live in the Detroit area and it's a non-issue. Every indication is that he's planning to play in their next game on Saturday against Indy

heard an interview with him on Sirius XM radio yesterday, and he didn't seem concerned about it -- he said he is progressing as the doctor's said he should and will soon have full use of his hand.

Everything said around here indicates it is nothing to be concerned about. He probably would have played had it been a regular season game. No need to risk your only playmaker in a preseason game.

As a Saints homer, prior experience with Colston makes me feel a little weary about this. Colston's thumb injury in '06 kept him out 4 games then, and carried over in '07. It started out kind of like what we're hearing about CJ at this point. Don't take this news as a grain of salt.

This is what I was thinking but didn't Colston have a torn ligament in his thumb last year whereas Johnson has a sprain?

Yea Colstons injury was a torn ligament...Saints lose Colston to thumb injury

The Saints have lost their top receiving weapon, Marques Colston, to a torn ligament in his left thumb, FOXSports.com has learned. Colston, in fact, quietly had surgery on Tuesday to reattach the ligament and will miss the next month to six weeks.

Lions' Calvin Johnson, two others return to field

ALLEN PARK -- For the first time in this season's training camp, the Detroit Lions lined up with their top three receivers on the field at the same time.

"It feels pretty good, especially with having everybody back. It's back like it was in (the offseason workouts)," said receiver Calvin Johnson, who was sidelined two weeks with a right thumb injury. "As long as it felt good today, I knew we'd be good to go, and it felt good today."

Bryant Johnson, who was recovering from an offseason golf cart accident, and Dennis Northcutt (hand) also returned Monday.

"I'm pretty close (to 100 percent)," Bryant Johnson said. "I'm back to full participation at practice, so everything's coming along real well. It's no fun to watch, so it's good to get back out there."

All three players are expected to play Saturday when the Indianapolis Colts visit Ford Field for the Lions' third preseason game.

"They're on track," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "Like I said, we took our time with those guys, with the idea of getting them back and getting them back healthy where we could put those problems behind us. All of them are still not quite 100 percent, but they're all out here working together. It's time to get them all on the field together and move on."
