Calvin Johnson Week 13 Injury Update Thread (1 Viewer)

From RotoWorld:

Calvin Johnson (hand, knee) participated in Lions practice Tuesday.

Johnson should be good to go even though he looked like he was in some pain during the Thanksgiving day game. Johnson was probably limited, but the good news is Matthew Stafford is on track to start as well. Johnson does have a tough matchup Bengals corners Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph, but you can't sit Megatron.

Which Mega shows up? Place your bets.

Mega####?

Megawimp?

Megafaker?

Just watch when he gets knocked down, how he goes thru his injury routine. It's really getting to be a pathetic display. This guy acts like he gets hurt everytime he gets tackled.

It's been virtually a year long act. He was pulling it bigtime in the Cleveland game and then as soon as the Lions pulled off the miracle, he was sprinting across the field towards Stafford.

You really need to let it go.

I'd contend that you CAN sit Megatron with a tough matchup and injury questions hovering around him if you have the depth...

- In League 1, I'm benching him for Miles Austin (at the Giants) and Sidney Rice (at the Cardinals).

- In League 2, I'm benching him for Miles Austin (at the Giants) and a hopeful pickup of either Jeremy Maclin or Jason Avant (no DeSean Jackson; at the Falcons).

- League 3 is more of a question mark... I'm LIKELY rolling with Marques Colston (at the Redskins), Jason Avant (at the Falcons) and Donnie Avery (at the Bears). I could potentially see myself benching Donnie for Megatron if he gets a clean bill of health in practice reports over the course of the week, but even then I'd be hesitant.

I hate having to read this thread, it makes me sad. I hope there's no need for this thread in two weeks.

It's only to play spoiler this week, but I'm starting him, for now. If the updates get worse I have no probems benching him.

The sad little man is back

Another update from RotoWorld. Schwartz is extremely tight-lipped about injuries so if he expects Calvin to be "without limitation" that sounds pretty encouraging.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz is expecting Calvin Johnson (hand, knee) and Matthew Stafford (knee) to be available for Sunday's game at Cincinnati.

Both players practiced Tuesday, though there's no official practice report until Wednesday. "I'm optimistic both of them would be without limitation on Sunday," said Schwartz. "At this time of the year, (they will be) about as full-speed as you can be. Everybody's banged up or beat up a little bit." Johnson has a tough matchup against the Bengals Pro Bowl caliber corners, but he has to played as a WR2.

Shades of Tanner in S-Jax threads.

We get it - you've made your point repeatedly. If you want to keep posting here, drop it. TIA.J

I am a huge Mega fan and have had him for three years now but this year I am out of patience waiting for health, QB play, matchups, etc. to come together to see him put up the big games we all know he is capable of. Thinking of benching him for, dare I say, Braylon Edwards on Thursday night against the depleted Buffalo Secondary. Also have TJ Housh to consider but that seems more risky. Am I crazy?

I have benched him for Nate Burleson throughout the season, and haven't regretted it once. The only thing I do regret is drafting him (Megafake)....

yes

Sitting him for Q, MSW & Hines but history has shown that when the groupthink on this board gets too high, it's better to go the other way. If everybody else here wants to bench him, I may just take y'all up on the reverse jinx and start him over Ward.

As a Megatron owner I wish he would just skip this game altogether, get fully healthy, and come back strong in week 14 vs. the Ravens suspect secondary, when the real season begins.

Regardless, if he plays he's tough to sit. I don't care what the matchup is. Detroit will be down a ton and throwing all day, and all it takes is one or two deep balls.

And anybody benching him for the likes of scrubs like Butterfingers Braylon and TJ Housh deserves to get burned.

The Bengals fan in me wishes Megatron would sit out this game.

That said, I have major problems at WR this week. I normally start Megatron and DJax. I don't expect DJax to play, so I'll start MSW in his place. Not that bad of a concession. But I might have to bench Megatron for Manningham or Knox.

Oh, and I'm going to the Bengals/Lions game on Sunday, so I can't make last minute changes.

My goodness I cannot wait until the nightmare is over. This guy is costing me big time. Benching him for Kenny Britt? Ohhhh my......

He outscored Randy Moss and Mike Sims-Walker in my league last week despite the fact he had a much tougher matchup than either of them and was playing on one leg.

Megatron starts for me every week he plays.

Last week was the last time I bench Holmes for Calvin....Calvin only sees PT if McCoy goes back to the bench and I have to play a 1-3 (got Sidney Rice who shall nevah be benched). Unless, of course, matchups pose a nice opportunity for Calvin.

I think I'm going to roll with Maclin over Calvin this week if Djax is out. I traded for Calvin in week 11, but I didn't like what I saw from him in the Thanksgiving game. He looked really injured. Credit to him for suiting up, but he seems a risky play right now, especially against a pretty decent Bengals D.

Calvin is averaging 18 ppg in my league the last three weeks. No way I bench him.
I agree. He's had one very good game, one sensational game and one so-so game but he still scored. If he practices all week and Schwartz expects him to play without limitations then he's looking like a Top 10-15 WR again. That's not a guy I'm going to sit unless I have an incredibly strong WR corps. It comes down to your choices but Calvin has been productive since he's returned. It's not like he's been putting 4 and 5 points a week the past three games.

How anyone can bench someone as talented as Calvin Johnson, when he's relatively healthy, knowing that Stafford will target him 12+ times is so baffling to me.

Jason Avant, Kenny Britt?!

You guys are nuts.

The depleted Buffalo secondary that leads the league in interceptions and picked off Sanchez 5 times in the last game they played?Jets will not be passing much in that game - Buffalo's run defense is ranked 32nd.

Jets will SHOULD not be passing much in that game - Buffalo's run defense is ranked 32nd.
Minor fix. Sexy Rexy was willing to try passing way too much last time, but you'd hope he's learned his lesson, though. If the Jets aren't turning this next game vs. the Bills into "The Thomas Jones Ground 'n Pound Show", after what he and Greene did to the Bills the first time, then Rex needs to have his head shrunk. Had he not let Sanchez put it up 30 times and get half a dozen picks that game they'd probably have won that game pretty handily.

I agree with your sentiment though. Anyone starting Braylon Edwards over, well, just about anyone this week is probably in for a pretty big disappointment.

The Bengals do a good job at shutting down the opposing teams #1 WR.

Tom, Calvin Johnson's status for Sunday? Able to contribute at what level?

TomKowalski:

he looks much, much better than he did last week ... watched him run some deep routes today at practice and he looked much faster ... he had no explosion at all last week ... i'd say he's at least 90 percent now ... last week, it was probably 50 percent -- if that ...

:tumbleweed: Good news to hear. He's got a tough matchup so he needs to be up to speed.

Great to hear. 50% last week might be a generous assessment. He looked like he could barely move.

This is a great thread!

I'm definitely starting Jamaal Charles over him at Flex.

Got Welker at one of the WR slots.

Other WR is a toss-up btw Boldin, White and Megatron (I traded Miles, L.Moore, TJ Housh and Bowe at opportune times earlier so am pretty stacked). Been normally playing WR at Flex until Charles took off.

Probably Boldin if Warner is playing, otherwise Tron gets the nod.

BTW, the dude is not a wimp. Or anything close.

Hope the guy who benched Megatron for Housh and Braylon had some monster weeks from other players.Classic overthinking going on in this thread.
