Calvin vs. The Saints this weekend? (1 Viewer)

I'm sorry fellas, but my championship week wouldn't be the same without a Calvin thread. Playing baseball for 15 years of my life has turned me into one superstitious SOB and this cat has carried my team at various points this season, so we gotta have one more thread to round the year out.

Love me some Calvin and I think I will be overpaying to keep him next year but this guy seems worth it. If we could have some negative replies talking about how the Calvin train is going to end this week, that would be appreciated. Thanks in advance and good luck in your finals or semis.

"So what do you think about Jason David containing Calvin, I think he might be able to do it."

:2cents:

ETA:fixed to please the sharks

Only a fool would bench Calvin, ever. He is the only WR with talent on a team always playing from behind.

Unless he is behind a roster of AJ, Fitz, Smith. Even then I would play matchups and this week is a might juicy matchup.

Ride the train that got you there.

He's been in my lineup since day one and ignored the masses when they said to sell high or bench him. Strangely enough, the two leagues that I own him are the leagues that I am playing for the championship.

There's no way Calvin can have a big game with the offensive line in shambles and the QB carousel of losers in Detroit. :tinfoilhat:

This is a pretty stupid question. Take the names out it sounds even dumber. "Should I bench my top-5 WR against the bottom-5 pass defense when he is playing to keep the team out of the record books?"Probably his best matchup all year. I am unfortunately not a Calvin owner, but if I was I would have been licking my chops all year looking at this matchup.

I have continuously benched him for Reggie Wayne :bag:

I can say that this week Steve Smith and Calvin will be starting over Reggie Wayne.

What round is he going next year?
With the QB questions, O-line, and the fact that he will be double teamed all year long, I don't see how you could pick him earlier than late 3rd.
Calvin will go early to late second round if not late first round in some redrafts. Which is well pointed out that you should wait until the third. Classic case of picked too early leaving value for everyone else. It was nice having him this year though. I would like to own him again, but in a redraft I am not willing to pay the high price.

TO, Fitz, S Smith and Calvin - Benched Calvin and cost me a shot this week at the big game.. Calvin has been studly - start always.

Why? He's already proven that he will produce like a top 5 WR with absolutely no help anywhere else on the field. Think about Calvin's situation and then realize that he's about to finish 2008 with around 1300 + yards and 12 TD's. Jon Kitna, Daunte Culpepper, Dan Orlovsky?!If his situation were to improve AT ALL next season he's going to put up Randy Moss 2007 type numbers. The Colts were top 5 against the pass, doubled him the entire game, and the Quarterback hadn't played in a game in 5 weeks and Calvin still had 9 grabs for 110 and a TD. He's producing every single week with the worst possible situation a WR could be in. I would love to draft him early second round and pair him with a back that may fall to the end of the first. Steven Jackson, Marion Barber, LT, or someone similar. I drafted him in the early third this year and people called it a reach. I don't care. Calvin is special. When will people stop doubting this guy?

Seriously, what have you been watching all year. His QB situation is the worst ever, his oline is terrible, he is on the worst team in the history of the NFL, and he is a top 5 WR in every format, he will probably go late first but there is no way he makes it out of the 2nd

I just think there will be better value. VBD will be against me drafting him next year.

How about a two keeper ppr league with no requirement to how long you can keep players - I assume in keepers (depending on situation this offseason) he has to fight the fitz/ s smith types for potential keepers.

Calvin might just have the biggest game of his career this weekend. If I'm the Lions coach, I desperately want to win a game this year, and this is my best chance. Saints D is pretty bad so I'd think Calvin gets 5-10 deep/jump balls this weekend. At least, I'm hoping he does anyway. :)

Lets factor in the fact that the Lions D sucks. New Orleans doesn't particularly care to hog the ball on O. They just want to score fast, so Calvin should have plenty of opportunities.

:sarcasm: Thus, the  He is the number 1 WR in my league, and this has been the situation all year. It can't get worse. I would not trade him in my dynasty league for any one WR. In a redraft, he's has to be at least 2nd round, maybe 1st.

I am in a 12 team PPR league that gives bonuses for long TDs. We get to keep 2 players every year, some of my possibilities are Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Cutler S-Jax.

Right now in this format Andre Johnson is the #1 scoring non-QB player, higher than EVERY RB! 5 players below him so the #6 non-QB scoring player is Megatron!

It will be a first in our league but I am going in protecting two WRs AJ and CJ next year. S-Jax is always banged up and QBs are not really worth protecting in our format.

So to answer the question Calvin is 1st round material in a PPR next year...no possible way on earth the lions have a worse situation than this year, half their games are indoors and oh isn't the 3rd year the breakout year for WRs...imagine what this guy will do with another training camp and a full season this year under his belt and maybe even a slight upgrade at QB!

Speaking of 2009 anyone think they will not draft a QB and give Orlovsky a shot against a veteran they might bring in during FA? He loves to throw to Calvin when he is in there and he hasnt been too bad since he ran out of the back of the endzone.

Those in Auction league with the standard $200 cap, what could you see as his '09 price range, as opposed to his ADP.

Only if years 1 and 2 they finish outside of the top 25. CJ should have been a year 1 breakout WR but he was limited by injury. So technically he is a year 2 breakout WR.How can he "breakout" next year if he's already top 5 this year?
