I am getting recruiter calls and have had a few interviews over the past month.  Had 1 offer and I countered with a very fair offer backing it up with data and why I was worth it, and they   pulled the plug.  I even told the hiring managers boss in my second interview how much I was looking for and he said it wouldn’t be a problem.

What position / industry?

When I hire someone whose job it is to negotiate savings for a company I like to see if they will negotiate for themselves first.

I’ve only countered one time and it was rejected but I took the job anyway.  Any other time the offer has been significantly better than my current situation so I didn’t want to screw it up

sounds like it worked out for the best then.  If you were willing to walk away over 5%, it wasn't a good fit

It was a good bit more headache for about the same pay as I currently make.
