Can we discuss pet peeves here? (9 Viewers)

a current pet peeve is how NBC begins slipping olympics crap into its news telecasts.  it isn't news, it's an infomercial and advertisement for programming disguised as news.

Dirty ####### people.

We wre at my sons soccer camp last Monday. It was the first day, so they had an opening ceremony where the introduced the coaches, methodology of the camp, etc. So the bleachers are full with the parents, kids, etc.

Ceremony is over, so the kids go to the soccer part and everyone else goes home. I look around and so much trash left there by inconsiderate fooking slobs. It is so hard to pick up the trash that you just dropped because you expect someone else to pick up after them.

Hate those fooking people.

I never understand email deletion. About once a week my wife will sit on her phone for about 30 minutes and go through and delete tons of emails. Why waste a half hour like that for no reason? My mom used to go through caller ID back when it was a separate stand alone device and delete them. Even though at 100 they started deleting the old ones and always just stored the 100 newest. I remember when I would see 41 of 41 and just laugh to myself knowing my mom wasted a ton of time deleting. It would prompt "are you sure you want to delete this message" too. So dumb.

No I pass then go back to the right lane.  Not a difficult concept.  I typically have cc set in 95 so there are not many cars passing me but I do get in the right lane if I am not passing.  Hence the signs that say keep right except  to pass. I live in CA so it may be different here than in your state.

I dont think you are understanding what he is saying. 

He is saying that the traffic in the right lane is moving slower, say 55.He drives 65 usually lets say. So he is passing cars while in the left lane. There is a car ahead of him that is passing cars as well, but said car is only doing 62. Mcgarnicle keeps a safe distance between him and the car ahead of him and they pass the slow trucks and cars pulling trailers etc. Stupid aggressive driver rides up on mcgarnicle's butt. Then when there is a small gap on right idiot drives like a madman to pass Mcgarnicle and squeeze into the safe distance that Mcgarnicle has left between him and car ahead of him. 

Now idiot did all of that to get one car ahead. Only way to prevent idiot from doing this is to ride right up on the rear of the car in front of you or move over into gap between two cars doing 55 in right lane just so that you can let idiot get in between you and car ahead.

I coached little league for the 1st time this year and every time we left it's the last thing I would tell the kids as I saw bottles being left around in the dugout and stands. 

 
The Facebook people who post 17 different times for a single moment.

Not even like a concert and you're posting when some other acts come on..but like 6 posts on making cookies or watching a movie.

All the local network channels around here do this for regular shows, hell at one time they were giving Survivor 'news' on the early morning show

My wife has a Facebook we both kinda live through.  Hearing stuff like this always makes me happy I don't have my own facebook.  Hell, I don't even like talking on the phone except once in a blue moon

My biggest pet peeve is when somebody says "I don't care" when they really mean "I don't mind"

It is a big difference to me

If both of those cars would move to the right once they have passed then cars that are going faster than 62 or 65 can pass. Yes you must do some work moving between lanes as you come up to slower traffic but that is why the left is supposed to be the passing lane.  disagree?  Based on his comments, he had determined that the left lane is supposed to go xx MPH.  Just move over if you have room so that people can pass.  It really is not a hard concept.

No he hasn't. He wasn't making this a fast lane vs passing lane debate. He was talking about passing when there is constant traffic flow.

If you are stuck going 62 behind a car that is passing cars going 55 and you move over right immediately after passing one of those cars. The 19 cars behind you will just close the gap since they probably all want to be going faster than 62 also. Now you are stuck going 55 waiting for the opening on the left to clear back up, just so you can get back in the lane going 62 when all along you want to drive 65. 

If the car ahead of you going 62 pulled over, you wouldn't pull over with him, YOU WOULD PASS HIM since you go 65 not 62. Then of course you would catch up to the car ahead of him that was also going 62. Then the Dbag behind you would be on your rear and then the guy that moved over would be stuck going 55 since he would have caught up to the car in front of him in right lane and would be waiting for all the cars going faster than 55 to pass him or he would have to jam his way back in line. 

If there is one car every 600 feet your plan works great and should be exactly how it is done. When there are tons of cars going 55 and tons of cars going 60, inevitably your scenario can't work. Since you have a constant flow of traffic in the left lane passing a pretty constant flow of traffic in the right. If everybody maintains safe following gaps, aholes can squeeze into them. So instead of being a Dbag and trying to drive 80 in the small gaps in the right lane only to have to slam back down to 60 as you move left to get one car ahead in a long line of traffic, be patient wait for the big gaps and then some cars ahead can move right. 

 
we can go through a million scenarios here.....I think this horse has been beat to death in past threads...I am going to move on.

All this goes to a bigger question of why are people driving slow in the passing lane to begin with.  And why should I have any consideration for them not wanting to be tailgated.  If you are to inconsiderate to drive faster than the speed of my ### in the passing lane, I lose all respect for you.  There are other people in the world besides you, that actually have places to get to.  So you have two options in my mind, 1) speed up to pass and get back over, or 2) stay in the right lane and go the speed they are going.  

Moral of the story, SPEED UP!

This reminded me of a minor highway driving pet peeve that happens too often. Low traffic (opposite of the situation some just aren't understanding here) with clear lanes, so I'm naturally driving in the right lane. Guy approaches from behind, flying relative to my speed. I've no problem with that - go as fast as you want, just get in the left lane to pass me sometime before the last second before you rear-end me, ok? I mean, you must have seen me there getting closer and closer for the last half mile with no one in the left lane, so there was plenty of time to get over. But no, you have to either act like you're going to take out my left rear or you sit right behind me for a couple seconds like you think you're playing Mario Kart and trying to get a drafting speed boost or something.  Doofus. 

Oh, and the close relative of that guy, this other one who comes up behind you as you're about to complete a pass but can't wait the extra second for you to get completely out of the left lane before starting to go around you. He's awesome, too.

When I see this, I tend to walk straight into the middle on purpose with arms stretched out.  That way I create as much havoc as possible.  I also try to fart if possible to make sure they know who they are messing with.

lol.. I always think of the game red rover in these situations

I'm in NYC, so sidewalk stuff like this is my day-to-day gripe... soooo many individual unwritten rules that get broken constantly, so many obvious courtesies thrown out the window, and a bunch of strange psychology that gets played out over and over. I always tell my visiting friends- our sidewalks are like your streets: stay to the right, pass on the left, always assume there's somebody going faster than you, and if you have to stop to read a map or cellphone, pull over to the side.

yeah- re: the strange psychology- people want to walk side-by-side in a group of more than 2, even if they're taking up the entire sidewalk. they'll shrink a bit if somebody's coming the other way, but #### the people trying to pass from behind. in three, I always drop behind the other two- but the other two almost always seem completely confused and typically try to even out the line.

another couple things I've noticed:

- people like to stop at the top of subway stairs to get their bearings... causing a log-jam of all the people immediately behind them trying to get out of the subway.

- even a pair of people on a narrow sidewalk will expand their space when nobody's approaching from the front, taking up the entire sidewalk in smaller cross-streets (like my neighborhood). they'll compress back to shoulder-to-shoulder when somebody approaches from the front to allow them to pass, but again- can't imagine there are people behind them.

- individuals like to walk down the middle of the sidewalk instead of staying to the right, again until approached from the front and then moving to the right to allow them to pass by without brushing shoulders. people behind them are forced to either brush by them or walk along the curb if they don't want to deal with saying "excuse me" and hoping the person moves over a bit. (again- this is on smaller sidewalks that only accommodate 2-3 people).

and forget the people in the subway and all the #### they do.

 
Two more driving pet peeves:

1.) driving on a two lane road, someone driving the opposite direction wants to turn left. You are well away and they have like 10 seconds to make the turn but they don't, usually making people behind them unnecessarily wait too. Then I feel obligated to speed up more to get past them so everyone can go when all they had to do was just make their turn. 

2.) could happen on a 4 lane or 2 lane...there is no traffic around you just driving down the road then suddenly someone pulls out from a side road at the exact instant you are going by and scare the crap out of you. On a 4 lane it would happen if you're in the left lane and they pull out to get in the right lane. On a 2 lane it would be someone pulling out in the opposite direction. Why can't they just wait a whole 1 or 2 seconds to pull out?

Huh?

I don't really get the issue here.  Especially the going the opposite way one.  I get waiting to move in on someone going the same way, but if I'm going right, I don't wait on cars going to my left before pulling out.

Sounds like you should maybe pay more attention to potential cars pulling out if they are scaring the crap out of you when they actually pull out.

 
people who interrupt others by SHOUTING over the top of them

particularly when the shouter has asked a question, someone is answering it for them and, because the shouter apparently feels embarrassed/stupid for having to ask the question, they begin to SHOUT over the top of the answerer after the lightbulb goes on over their own head.

SHOUTER:  does anyone know what time the game is on tonight?? i can't find a schedule anywhere

answerer: NBC, 7 o'cl....

SHOUTER:  NBC!! 7 O'CLOCK!!! I KNEW THAT!! YEAH! YEAH! I KNEW THAT!! IT'S ON AT 7 ON NBC. YEAH!! YEAH I KNEW THAT!!

not been a fan of the 20-something women here in NYC who blindly cross streets and bikelanes myopically dialed into their cell phones. and then, when the car honks or bike has to screech to a halt, they barely look up- blankly- without a nod or apology- and keep walking looking at their phone. darwin is waiting to strike these girls.

 
Cell phone talkers that have the phone in their hand near their mouth on speaker phone.

Littering Smokers, which basically means all smokers. Least considerate group of people on the planet. My favorite part is how they are all in denial about it. Overheard at work. 

Non smoker-"Eric please stop throwing your butts on the ground outside the building. I know they are yours since you are the only one that smokes cloves or whatever those are."

Smoker- "I always put mine out and then i put the butt in my back pocket. See."(pulls out one butt from his back pocket)

That's the classic line from smokers. "I always dispose of mine." Nevermind the fact that they dont even have an ashtray in their car they smoke in and you have seen them throw a cigarette hundreds of times.  

 
Able-bodied persons who use the handicapped automatic doors.  They push the button, wait for it to open, then waltz through.

Why is that an issue?  Maybe they have a bad back and heavy doors could make the back go out.  Then people would complain how they were a drain on society when they missed work and what not.  Press that button imo.

I've got an 8 and 6 yo and a newborn. When we go to church or the mall or wherever, we always ask you be of the older girls to run ahead and hit the button. Not getting this pet peeve. 

 
I also don't get the handicapped button complaint. It doesnt interrupt, hinder or impact anyone else. 

I use it most often when someone is following me but too far behind to hold the door open and wait for them.

How about the ones that post pictures that are blurry or too dark to make anything out. Or 16 pictures all of basically the exact same thing but just slightly different poses...the head is tilted at a 8 degree angle, now a 10 degree angle, now a 12 degree angle with arm slightly raised. Might as well just post your entire camera roll each time. 

 
A couple driving related pet peeves here:

I can't stand when able bodied pedestrians blatantly go out of their way to walk as slow as they can and holding up traffic while walking across an intersection.  

I also can't stand drivers that somehow get offended when other drivers turn on their turn signals indicating they would like to change lanes--that literally speed up in order to prevent that lane change from happening--or to get in front of the lane switching car.  God forbid one vehicle actually get in front of you as that would totally ruin your day.  

 
Jerks that dont clean up after their dogs suck. Jerks that clean up, but then decide ahhh screw it i dont want to carry this bag of crap anymore, deserve to have to spend a week in solitary listening to timscochet posts being read.
