Thinking about doing a week with the family there... Anyone have any recommendations on hotels and or activities?

Currently looking at Red Jacket Beach.

Wish I could be more help... I'm more of a Nantucket kinda guy, but when I go to the Cape, it's either Chatham or P-town. That said, the location on South Yarmouth is a good spot. I just don't know anything about that facility. it sounds nice, though.

Try to avoid driving on/off the Cape on the weekends. You have to cross one of two bridges that connect it to the mainland (over a canal) and they get backed up really bad on the weekends in the summer.

I think we're doing a Monday-Sunday, so we'll prob have to deal with it one way, thanks though.

I've been told Hyannis is good to go with the family at night also.

Just got back from a weekend wedding Sandwich/Dennis areas a couple weeks ago. Love the Cape.

Don't take the kids to Ptown/Provincetown unless you're good with them seeing grown men arm in arm in assless chaps. ;)

I've received this feedback already. We prob won't be heading in that direction.

C'mon P-town is very family-friendly. Lots of families go there. But yeah... There is that.

Last summer I sent my two oldest daughters back to MA to visit my folks. They took them for a few days to Red Jacket Beach Resort and loved it. I'm sending them back again in a month and they are going back there. My folks said there are a ton of things for the kids to do.

My mom went up with them (ages 9 and 7 last year) on a parasail. Apparently they can accommodate one adult and two kids.

Spent 2 nights there last year during my New England trip

See my thread

https://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?/topic/706250-touring-new-england-8-10-days-completed/

It rained during this part of our trip, so we didn't do as much as we would have liked.

Stayed here:

Was the best hotel we stayed at during our trip. Really nice.

Agree on the traffic, I arrived on Tuesday and left on Thursday. No traffic issues to speak of.

When we go back, it going to be Newport and RI beaches. Enjoyed that much more.

Downtown Hyannis has gone downhill, a lot. although it is safe enough

You can do a bike rude through the dunes in the state park, I'd recommend that. Personally I think they're beautifull. The towns are fun, but they all blended together to me. P'town is cool, but also really gay. Nttawwt etc but just so you know. The Cape at the point is beautiful, explore the nature as much as you can. As for the beaches coming from the Gulf the beaches are not impressive and the water is cold but the bars and seafood are great.

Two main things to know:

1) Is it ocean side or bay side? Bay side is good for little kids. The waves on the ocean side are pretty rough. Red Jacket Beach Resort is on the ocean side.

2) How far up the Cape is it? My two cents is, the farther you go up the arm, the nicer the beaches. Red Jacket Beach Resort looks to be about mid-Cape and close enough to Chatham which has great beaches (and great white sharks).

Friday at 5pm to mid-evening Sunday you're more than likely stuck in traffic for a good portion of the Cape commute. No way around that. Make sure you're gassed up and you hit the restrooms before hitting the Cape bridges.

P-town is fine and you can go see a Whale Watch chartered out of there that's great. There are also a ton of great bike trails throughout the entire Cape. I would also recommend, since you're in a resort or hotel, taking a day trip up to spend time at Coast Guard National Beach or the Wellfleet and Truro beaches. Best New England has to offer.

Good luck.

What's this now? None of those on the bay side?

We are more pool people anyways, but def not shark fans.

Simple nature. There were a lot of fish. The seals came into shore more and more to eat the fish. The sharks came to eat the seals.

Forward to about 3:30 into the clip for a better look. But there are signs up at the beaches that there are sharks in the area and every day you can see 50-60 seals sunning themselves on sandbars 50 yards off shore.

when I was a nyer I went a couple of years......the bridge traffic is hideous, especially the bourne bridge I believe. great things to do were hit a cape cod league bases game and I believe there is a drive in theater out there somewhere. I would suggest a ferry to the vineyard or Nantucket. cape cod potato chip factory tour. the woods hole science aquarium...........

about ptown, it is over the top and likely not something you would want to expose kids to, but they may not know what's going on.
