Car has scratches on it (1 Viewer)

SUPER ELITE UPPER TIER
My daughter wanted to surprise me by sweeping all of the snow off of my car for me the other day. Unfortunately, she used a metal snow shovel to do it. Surprise! This is why we can't have nice things. :hot:

There are no really big scratches, but there are a bunch of small ones that are all over the hood and roof. I couldn't really get mad at her because she was trying to be helpful. But I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't fighting back blood boiling anger as I smiled and thanked her.

Water under the bridge now and nothing is going to keep it from happening now. But my question is this:

I see those infomercials with the wax type wipe that you put on your car and wipe it in. I'm fairly certain that crap doesn't work, but I'd be foolish not to at least ask the collective brain of the FFA. Anyone ever use that stuff? Can you get it at Autozone or something like that? Or is there anything like that stuff that I can buy to minimize the white scratches on my black paint job?

TIA

Enjoy kids while they are young. Sure they will make mistakes, but they aren't really big ones and in the grand scheme of things, you can deal with it. They are young and just enjoying life. She was just trying to help.

Once they get to HS, they could be queefing at the back of the bus.

Yeah, like I said, I wasn't really mad at her.

I'm just wondering if those scratch fixers work at all.

turtle wax makes a good scratch cover, the only problem is i found it wears off quickly. as soon as i polish with it and then wax it looks great.

a week or so latet you can see them again

Interesting. So the smart move here is to use this the day before I turn in my car to end my lease.

Some work, some don't - but you need to put something in the crevasses, or you'll start to rust. Might as well try one or two.

Probably be best off taking it somewhere and having it buffed out. If you do have white streaks in the black paint that is a pretty deep scratch. Buffing may not be enough.

Smart move would be to do a dry run first ;)
Ooooo. Excellent point. I may try this when the weather warms up a little.

If you think it's minor enough for wax to fix it, get the car detailed at a well-reviewed car wash instead of doing it yourself. It's a lot of labor.

They'll do it better than you can and you'll be watching from an adriondack chair.

  1. Leave the car with a trusted friend.

Report it stolen.
Drive car to remote area, wipe it down well to ensure no fingerprints.
Torch car.
New car!!!!!!!

Use some of that tinted scratch cover up wax, then put a few coats of a longer-lasting polymer based wax over it (I use Zaino Bro's). The Zaino stuff isn't as shiny or deep as carnuba, but it lasts a LOT longer. It might work as a shell to cover the tinted wax and make it last longer.

Nothing is going to be perfect, but that might be your best bet for longevity and looks.
