Cold Dead Hands

Footballguy
I am in the market for a new or used car. I had a 2013 Elantra that was just totaled. I am looking for a mid-sized sedan. I have looked at the 2015 Honda Accords and Civics. I know in 2013 I couldn't really drive the Toyota Corolla because of the high footrest due to the wheel well and my bad left knee. I will probably take a look at Hyundai as well. Anyone have any other suggestions or know of any decent deals out there?

Used cars I have looked at the 2012 Accord and a range of years for the Ford Fusion. Haven't ventured beyond that yet.

If I ever get around to replacing our commuter car- the first favorites for me right now are the Hyundai Sonata (regular or hybrid) and Ford Fusion (regular or hybrid). I would be open to others but initial thinking has me going in those two directions.

will be looking at a commuter hopefully my Subaru lasts a few more years. can probably get a good deal on a 3 year old with low mileage camry that should last to 200k and maintain its value. I hear too many stories about domestic cars having way too many maintenance issues. After the camry I would look into a civic or accord

Three Honda dealerships within 30 minutes of me. One has 0% rates on 2015 and 16 model year Civics and Accords. Other two don't come close.

Hyundai dealership near me has 0% and $1500 dealer cash. Pretty sure based on where we are in the month I can get the Honda place down close to $18K on an Accord LX. Used 2012 EX Accord with 30k miles, looks like I can get it for $13K. Interest rate is no where near 0% for used.

Going to visit a Ford dealership at lunch tomorrow and follow up with the Hyundai/Kia place.

Look at the 2016 Civic. Complete redesign, and imo, much much better than the 2015.
i thought it was against recommended advice to buy a model in its first year due to potential mishaps... the sweet spot being in model year 3 or 4 hopefully a few years before another refresh

That's very 2000 of you.

Doesn't matter with Honda either, probably never did. Civics are always red circle with white dot in almost every category at Consumer Reports. Meaning they are nearly perfect, regardless of year or design.

And the new one actually looks to not be an $4!+ box like the last one. Last one went cheap every place it could. This one, they made nicer choices, and it barely moved the needle on price.

i haven't bought a car since 2004. So i hear you.

I like consumer reports, but sometimes I wonder if they are a little lazy on checking some of the imports because of their past reputation rather than judging each one individually.

I have pretty much narrowed my focus down to the Civic. The 2016 isn't out yet. It is unavailable everywhere around me. The dealer I spoke to hasn't even seen it yet.

2015 looks like a nice car and I can get the out the door price down to 17K on an LX with 0% for 72 months. Might have to do it.

2016 is coming out in November. Wait a month imo.

ETA: You won't get a 0% financing deal on a 16 though. Probably 1.9%.

Doubt I could get the 2016 LX for under 17K if I waited a month.

What are winters like where you live? Maybe take a look at a Subaru Legacy if you have to deal with inclement weather at times?

It's all based on customer feedback.

I am a subscriber so they ask me about my two vehicles every year in a comprehensive survey. If I've had problems, I report them.

So I have 2 dealerships trying to get me to buy. I am now down to 17,872 after taxes tags and fees.

I have no vehicle as of tomorrow so I am probably going with whoever survives. If I can get my payment down to $220 I would be pretty pleased. We'll see as anything over that is a tough sell financially for me. :poor:

Earlier this week my car got totaled as well.
Insurance will only pay for a rental until next Tuesday. So I need to purchase a replacement (used) car soon.

I've been searching Truecar and Carmax for vehicles in my area. What other sites have you guys had good experiences purchasing a used car from?

My wife's lease on her 2013 Honda CR-V is up in April.

Mae went to the dealership today to look at pilots. A 2016 is freaking $41k???  They didn't seem flexible much either.

There seems to be 2014 and 2015s in the 28-35 range and they seem wiling to deal more on the preowned. Suggestions?

Wow - that's ridiculous for a small SUV.

Maybe get away from the SUVs and go with a mid size sedan. You can get better prices and there are a lot of good choices such as Accord, Mazda 6, Kia Optima, etc.
