This shows the records of all teams the past 26 years.

Arizona stands alone as:

1) The only team with a winning percentage below .400 (and well below, at .347)

2) Fewest playoff berths -- just ONE.

3) The only team not to have a double digit winning season -- 9 wins is the most the Cardinals have had.

The 49ers have the highest winning percentage in the NFL, and the Broncos have the highest AFC winning percentage.

The NFC South has been historically ugly. No team ranks in the top 20, and the division only has 24 playoff appearances among them and one SB victory.

I'm not a Detroit fan so I was surprised that they were so bad. Hard to believe that they're 2nd worst!

You must mean the NFC South...21. Carolina 82 94 .466 3 1 0 12 14 22. San Diego 198 227 .466 8 1 0 12 15 23. N.Y. Jets 194 228 .460 9 0 0 12 15 24. New Orleans 191 233 .450 5 0 0 12 15 25. Nice find. Steeler fans must be happy to be that high up even though the rankings only go back to 1979.I think the Cardinals' pathetic record that tells you something about Jake Plummer, doesn't it? I mean, the guy led them to the playoffs and they actually won a game! Now 3 straight playoff appearances with Denver ... is he pulling a Steve Young on us?Of course, the Cardinals did make the playoffs in 1982 in St. Louis, but that doesn't count for Arizona the way they did these standings.

Yeah, some teams, like TB for example, are still digging their way out of the hole, when their franchise for many MANY years was the butt of the NFL. They may be doing well now, but for years they were horrible, and their overall stats reflect how horrible it really was. The opposite goes for teams like the 49ers, who are horrible NOW, but are still riding the coattails of the many many good seasons put forth by the likes of Montana and Young. Give them a few more years, and they'll plummet from the top spot...

This ranking shows what people are saying in AZ alot lately. No team can hire and fire 6 or 7 straight bad head coaches and staffs. There is only one comman denominator in this equation. The Bidwells. The Bidwells are the worst owners in the history of professional sports. Hell, the owner of the Bufalo Sabres went to jail, Marge Shott was a racist pig, but they both atleast were trying to win, there is no thought of winning in this orginization.A credit to the NFL and there marketing machine and the product they put on the field, I will be out getting 2 season tickets to the new stadium this spring! I am a SUCKER!!

Whoops. Meant the NFC South. I'll edit.

Think about this - New Orleans has been the second best team in the NFC South for winning percentage over the last 26 years.

Thank goodness that Arizona no longer is in the NFC East.Based on the current division alignment, one would have to say that the NFC East has been the best division in the past 26 years. Especially with 8 of the 26 Super Bowl wins. With 12 appearances, they have been the NFC representative almost half the time.

6. Philadephia 232 189 .551 14 2 0 13 13

7. Dallas 231 193 .545 15 3 3 13 15

14. N.Y. Giants 220 202 .521 11 3 2 14 12

Interesting that the Packers received the most votes in the poll for The Greatest Franchise. It's obvious they are living on ancient history, because the last quarter century has them as distinctly mediocre.

Baltimore 99 132 .429 3 1 1 12 14 The team that really surprised me was Baltimore. They get hyped every year as being the dominant AFC North team, and yet outside of one Superbowl year that is looking more and more like an outlier, they have fared worse than Houston, Cleveland, and New Orleans. Crazy for them to be so bad considering they seem to find excellent players in the draft each year. Anyone have any theories?

As far as I can tell, that also includes the last 5 years of the Baltimore Colts (1979-1983). The Colts were 30 games under .500 during that timespan, accounting for a lot of this. The Ravens also started off poorly, finishing 15 games under .500 between 1996 and 1999.

So basically, before the Ravens won the Super Bowl, the city of Baltimore had 0 winning seasons in their previous 10 (1978 doesn't count in these standings).

This article should be printed on the front page of the Arizona Republic every day until the Cardinals are above .400. :no:26-1 would be the quickest way to do that. 28-4 (two seasons of 14-2), 30-7, 32-10, etc, beyond that.

For cities that have hosted multiple NFL franchises, we have combined the records -- so Houston gets the Oilers and Texans, Baltimore gets the Colts and Ravens and St. Louis gets the Cardinals and Rams. For the Raiders, even though they've moved between Oakland and Los Angeles, we included their overall franchise totals.

Cool. Makes sense now. Thanks for the clarification!

What happens when they stop printing newspapers? :bag: They have to go 7-9 or better to make progress towards .400, and I don't see it happening regularly.

I'd rather be #29 (TB) than #3 (Miami).

One has a SB in that span -- one doesn't.
Just keep telling yourself that...
 Ask Eagles fans how those 11-5 seasons and no Super Bowl is treating them right now.

Players don't play the game, and I don't watch just so my team can go 9-7 every year.
