CLEVELAND -- The Indians have traded Mark DeRosa to the Cardinals for right-hander Chris Perez and a player to be named.

DeRosa was batting .270 with 13 homers and 50 RBI.
A couple things:1. Perez being dealt is interesting. His ceiling is still high.

2. Glaus ain't coming back soon.

First impression of the deal: I like it.

The strongest rumor I've heard was the Cards getting Holliday from Oakland. I wonder if that is still on the table.

Or are the Cards gun-shy about dealing with Oakland because of the Dan Haren travesty?

I'm loving this trade. The NL Central is there for the taking as it is weak this year. I would like to see the Cardinals make another move for a bat or SP.

I have heard some rumors about a trade for Holliday. Ludwick, 1 of Perez, Motte, and McClellan, and a prospect (I heard Wallace, their #1 pick in '08). With Perez now gone and already trading for a guy who is a free agent at the end of the year, I don't see a trade for Holliday happening.

The Cards aren't dealing Wallace, and that is quite a pretty price to pay for Holliday.I could see the Cards dealing C Bryan Anderson in such a deal, though. He's not bumping Molina from the starting catcher position.

I'm actually really looking forward to going into work tomorrow and hearing all the Cubs fans cry about this trade. Their refrain all year has been "If we only still had DeRosa!". I can only imagine how mad they must be watching him get dealt to the Cards.
