David Carr: Report: Cards interested in David Carr

David Carr - QB - NYG - Mar. 3 - 3:14 pm et Citing multiple NFL sources, Cardinals beat writer Kent Somers reports that the team has interest in free agent David Carr.

Carr, 29, likely wouldn't pose a big threat for a starting job, so his signing could be something of a vote of confidence to Matt Leinart. The Cards are also interested in retaining incumbent third-string QB Brian St. Pierre, who is another unrestricted free agent. The two could compete behind Leinart. Mar. 3 - 3:14 pm et

Source: Kent Somers on Twitter

Could lightning strike twice, the last washed up FA QB the Cards got from the Giants worked out well.

Why not? small contract, has the tools although never displayed them well. I dont care if he is a problem child, Wiz will bring him in, if he is a problem, GONE! This is a coach and GM who both got new contracts and have turn this turd around. No way a F/A unproven underachiever messes with chemistry. Maybe he has matured and can play, god knows Matty hasn't instilled confidence in Cardinal nation yet.

I disagree with this completely. I know how awful Carr was in Houston and Carolina, but he looked comfortable in limited duty with the Giants. I don't see how signing one of the top veteran QBs on the free agent market would be considered a vote of confidence in Leinart. If anything, it would mean a short leash if he were to struggle (which seems like a very real possibility given how he has played in spot duty). Whiz has nothing invested in Leinart. He won't sit around waiting for him to become competent.

Oh god no. David Carr is cancer.
What?Despite what you think about him as a player, I've never heard anything other than he's a good citizen, a good teammate, and a good character guy.As a player, he clearly will never live up to his draft pick, but in the limited time I've seen him play for the Giants, he seems to be a much more composed player then he way in his shell-shocked Texans days.

His biggest off the field issue was that he was balanced with a 9 to 5 approach to QB versus being football obssessed.

No. What he is is the NFL's biggest farce ever. This clown has always sucked yet continues to get contract after contract from inept GMs. I'd rather have Harrington than this idiot. Fitz owners will cringe if this guy gets into the game.

Thank You,I dont see how this would be a bad move for the Cards. Heck, i'm not sure how this a bad move for 1/2 the teams in the NFL. He has shown flashes, he needs a balanced offense, he took such a beating early on, he nneds to be able to hand off on a regular basis and not play from behind.

Frankly, I'm actually worried about who would replace Carr as Eli's backup...

I am still liking Bulger to be the guy if the Rams do cut him. He seems to fit the profile a little better than David Carr. He has had success in the past

There is definitely something comforting with having a quality backup, I like having Kitna in Dallas, Was bummed to lose Sage in Houston. These guys are not Franchise guys but you feel you stilll have a chance if your #1 goes down

Johnson was completely mediocre with Carr at the helm. Without him, he's the #1 dynasty receiver right now.Steve Smith averaged 40 yards and 0.2 touchdowns per game with Carr. With any other QB at the helm (and that includes Matt Moore when he was young and awful, Delhomme even in the bad years, a 400 year old Vinny Testeverde, and Chris Weinke) he was a stud.

Bottom line, Carr has played with two dominant receivers. Both of them were meteorically worse with Carr at the helm than they were with any other QB.

If I knew right now that David Carr were going to be the starting QB of a team for an entire season, there is no WR in the league that I would draft before round 5 playing with him.

:moneybag: Carr is awful. Probably the worst QB who has ever been allowed to start so many games.

I wonder why when they changed QB's the sack rate went way down, it's because Carr was indecisive and can't make quick decisions.

I think he's more of a bust then Ryan Leaf because he actually punished the texans by giving just enough hope that they allowed him to play, at least Leaf busted out before he ruined a team for 3 years.

Lowest YPA for all QBs with at least 2,000 passing attempts since 1960:1 Joey Harrington 5.79 2 Rick Mirer 5.86 3 Dan Pastorini 6.06 4 Kordell Stewart 6.25 5 David Carr 6.38 6 Trent Dilfer 6.47 7 Tony Banks 6.50 8 Bubby Brister 6.53 9 Roman Gabriel 6.55 10 Kerry Collins 6.56

Yeah, that WR #18 finish AJ had that year would make all those Fitz owners in fantasy REALLY happy. :excited:

I am bye no means defending Carr but i would not worry about fitz either. Keep in mind this was a expansion team only 4 years old. They had lots of OL and defense problems.

You realize we're talking about fantasy football here, right? Fitz was 17th in receiving yards this year, but led the NFL in touchdowns. He was 5th in fantasy points.Fact of the matter is, Carr played 6 seasons with two of the leagues best WRs and the BEST either of them finished in fantasy was 18th. Again, that's the best they finished, often doing much worse.

With any other QBs, they've both been complete studs.

Far from it. Carr's resume proves my point. Big deal 103 catches for 1147 yards and 5 stinking TD's from a superstar WR. Currenly you see what he could have done for over 5 yeas now with a real NFL QB.You've been owned. Carr sucks and until you actuallu have a WR affected by his suckage, you have no clue.Kowskull and duece2626 = no ability to judge QB talent as shown by this thread.

100 plus recicption seasons are a big deal since it has only happened 66 times. Alot of those were by the same guys. The only thing i have judged is that AJ and Fitz will get theirs. I got no problem with Carr throwing the ball if my #1 QB goes down. He makes a good backup. Also those first years were expansion times for the Texans. Lots have changed in the last 4 years. Good coaching and drafting.

Del-homme, Del-homme Del-homme Del-homme...!!

In approximately 80 career starts, Carr has had just three 300+ passing yardage days and three 3-TD days. And that's with Andre Johnson and Steve Smith. Add that to the YPA perspective Yudkin posted above, and that's all I need to know from a fantasy perspective. Carr is not someone I'd ever want to start on my fantasy team even if Leinart (for example, if Carr goes to Zona) were to be benched or hurt.

 it's amazing that some people don't realize just how bad Carr is.

Warner did this last year too before signing with Arizona. It's all part of the process.

NY Giants free agent quarterback David Carr to visit San Francisco 49ers, source says

The rumor leading up to free agency was that Giants free agent quarterback David Carr would draw interest from the Cardinals. Well, Arizona is certainly in play, but Carr will be headed elsewhere for his first visit.

The former No. 1 overall pick, a Bakersfield, Calif. native, will fly to San Francisco to meet with the 49ers this weekend, according to someone informed of his travel plans. The person requested anonymity because neither Carr's camp nor the 49ers wanted the visit public.

If he winds up with San Fran, Carr would be in direct competition with another top overall pick who's also had a disappointing start to his career: Alex Smith, who recently received a vote of confidence from head coach Mike Singletary. Smith started 10 games last season and completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 2,350 yards, 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. It was his first action since 2007, when he completed only 48.7 percent of his passes.

The person informed of Carr's travel plans said the Cardinals are very much in play and could be his next stop. Arizona is looking for someone to compete with or push Matt Leinart, who has the inside track on the starting job vacated by the retirement of Kurt Warner.

The bottom line for the Giants is Carr appears headed elsewhere to get a legitimate shot at a starting job - something he won't get in East Rutherford as long as the durable Eli Manning remains durable.

The Giants say they have options to replace Carr, though there isn't a whole lot on the market, especially since A.J. Feeley is apparently headed to the Rams and Chris Redman re-signed with the Falcons. The next level of unrestricted free agents includes underwhelming names such as J.P. Losman and Patrick Ramsey, whom the Giants worked out last year.

Get ready, Rhett Bomar. The door is very much open right now.

Fear not, Cardinals fans, it looks like the 49ers are going to sign Carr and release Hill.
Bump Frank Gore up if this clown takes the starting gig. I love David Carr's potential (disclaimer: Frank Gore owner). He can't pass the ball downfield and will just dump off to Frank all day long.

I'd actually hate for the Cards to get Carr. His talent level is too close to Leinart's and there would be a constant QB controversy.
