Carl Pavano has been given the go-ahead to have Tommy John surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews.

The Yankees wanted Pavano to rehab further, but it seems they've given up on ever getting anything from him. Maybe he'll be ready to go by the All-Star break next year, but it's not something anyone is going to count on. Pavano is 5-6 with a 4.77 ERA in 19 starts since signing a four-year, $39.95 million contract prior to 2005.
