A devastating blow for a kid just six weeks into his big-league career, and for the rebuilding Indians.

Now stretcher coming onto field....Santana came to Tribe from Dodgers, considered one of top young catching prospects in the game

Horrific home plate collision Indians C Carlos Santana appears to have suffered a serious knee/leg injury Kalish, the base-runner, out.

If I were a Cleveland sports fan, I think I would just move out of the area so as not to deal with it anymore.

Bit of a cheap shot to put your weight into a guys knee. Pop him in the trunk or slide around it.

It's a shame, Santana was an excitng yongster

that's a very dirty play.
Next time, Santana will block with more of his body rather than just his leg. The education of a young Catcher.
:lmao:Know I'm a homer and all but Carlos didn't put his body in the way like he should have. Kalish was barreling for the plate and Santana had his leg propped out over it. Was he supposed to just take the out or make a play for the plate? Sucks it happened. I have him rostered in a dynasty league but I agree with Eeph. The kid made a rookie mistake here. One of the reasons he wasn't called up earlier this year, with Cleveland having glaring holes was because he wasn't ready defensively.Still sucks to see him injured like that. He's going to be a badass.

Ya, clearly a bad block of the plate...you won't see an experienced catcher expose himself this way. He will learn though....hopefully the injury is nothing too serious

Landed on the 15 day DL, no surprise. They are, however, classifying the injury as a sprain. No significant ligament damage. Looks like he dodged a major bullet. I'd still be pretty surprised if we see him behind the plate before 2011.

i certainly agree that it was a bad block. Its a lesson he needed to learn.

I just think the runner could have scored without snapping the kid's leg in half.

Hope he's ok, but man that looked ugly.

This is a completely homer posting. Kalish could have run through Santana's chest, he could have slide around Santana's leg, instead he tries to slide straight thru Santana's knee. If Victor Martinez were to get run like that, you'd be screaming bloody murder. It was a poor block of the plate, but the runner had options and he chose by far the dirtiest option.

I agree with the bad block stuff, but he had position on his bad block, and it seemed like this Kalish took dead aim on the knee. Once again, slide around the tag, as he was planted, or take him out up high to lodge the ball loose as you say. I don't know what kind of move this kid did.

Honestly it looks like two kids making a big mistake. Santana blocking the plate like that and Kalish not recognizing he should either plow into Santana, or go over/around him. I don't think there was anything intentional or unsportsmanlike about it, just two young guys put in the same place in a situation that neither had very much experience with.

No, guy. You're wrong about that. Catcher exposed himself and put his leg directly in the base path. Unfortunate injury...but not on Kalish. Go ahead and show me some "homerism" posts of mine making ridiculous claims of cheap shots or anything else. I shtick sometimes but there's none in that post. Was Kalish supposed to go around Carlos? Anyhow Kalish is never going to amount to much and I've been pimping Santana for months. If anything I'd be biased in favor of Santana. Just don't bother responding to anymore of my posts. You're word is rubbish, mate.

:football: Thanks for seeing past your hatred for all things Boston and recognizing this incident for what it was. Seems most of the guys complaining in here are from NY or Jersey....probably a few Cleveland cats as well.

Yep just went back and read the thread. As I thought mostly Yankees fans whining about it. Grow up guys and quit being bitter. I know the Sox have destroyed the Yanks over the last decade but you're coming off a championship and just added another 25M in payroll. Goodtimes in the Big Apple.....relax. Looked poised for a repeat.

Im a Mets fan, I hate the Yankees as much as anyone and can't care less about the Red Sox. Watch the replay. Santana makes the first mistake, but Kalish could have avoided him. Ultimate responsibility is on Kalish here. He had the chance to avoid the knee and he didn't. I fail to see any way you can place the blame mainly on Santana, let alone only blaming Santana. PS - rubbish and mate in a baseball post? Really? Like your use of "you're" wasn't bad enough.

Most of the word around here has been echoing the good Doctor's words, in fact the venom was actually a lot thicker around here last night during the bean ball contest. If the Red Sox are out to prove a point, they're not going to do it to the friggin Indians.

OMIGOD, I misspelled a word once that appeared 3 times in one paragraph. What's your point? Go back and watch the video....not in slow motion. Kalish was barreling and Santana is waiting for the ball. The kid just got to the majors and most likely won't be sticking around too long. He was running for his life. Listen to the color guys. They don't notice anything wrong until Santana is writhing on the ground and then after watching the replay.

I agree with this line of thinking.Looks like he's out for the season and going under the knife today.

Still sad about this, especially since my starting C is either Jaso or Arencibia for the playoffs next week. :hifive:We can only hope he's 100% come spring training and we get a full year from our stud prospect next season.
