With Tynes no longer hurt, any reason they would give him the job back with Carney performing so well this year?

Giants HC Coughlin Sticking With K Carney

Dan Martin, New York Post - [Full Article]

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said that he expected John Carney to continue kicking in place of Lawrence Tynes, even though Tynes is no longer listed on the injury report.

my guess is that tynes will handle kick off duties. carney has been money from 40 yards or less but his leg isn't up to kick off duty. tynes could handle FG attempts beyond 40 too. coughlin isn't likely to make the change when his team is on a roll.

You think he'll have both kickers active for the game? The Post says Carney is the guy, but the Daily News is reporting that Coughlin is calling it another game-time decision.

Still two kickers

Lawrence Tynes and John Carney both remain on the roster, and Tom Coughlin said this week will be similar to last week as he waits until game day to decide who will be activated Monday night.

Tynes has been sidelined nearly two months with a knee injury, but he has not been on the injury report for several weeks and has had full participation in practices. Carney, a 44-year-old replacement, has converted all 12 of his field-goal attempts and all of his PATs. But his kickoffs have been short, with only three of the nine reaching the 10-yard line against Seattle, which Coughlin said is a concern.

i don't think they are in any hurry to decide. carney has a pretty reliable leg but doesn't have the ability to hit long ones. maybe relieving him of kick off duties will keep his leg fresh? also, carney hasn't kicked in bad weather which will occur sooner rather than later. the meadowlands can be a late season nightmare for kickers, iirc. he's played the bulk of his career in either a dome (NO) or warm weather (SD) venues.

They signed Tynes to a 5-year $7-million contract in February, so it's pretty hard to imagine the Giants will relegate him to being the most expensive kickoff specialist in NFL history for the remainder of the season. Mind you, the Saints could be 4-1 and in the hunt for home-field advantage if not for the erratic kicking of Gramatica, so maybe the Giants are content to roster two kickers for a while and keep Carney from hitting the open market?

I have Carney in my lineup, but am damn nervous to be doing it on a week where the Giants don't play until Monday night.
