Carolina Def-What's wrong? (1 Viewer)

Like many, I almost always avoid drafting defenses early, but this year the Carolina D was sitting there in the 10th... Sigh.

Week 1-vs ATL: I gave them a pass--Dan Morgan went out and, well, sometimes Vick happens.

Week 2-vs MIN: Solid, Peppers was a monster.

Week 3-vs TB: I expected big things. TB scores 3 points in the first 2 games, and then 24 against Carolina. 24? A total of 1 sack? Say what?

Any insights from homers on what is going on? I haven't been able to see any of the games, so I'm curious what the prognosis is going forward. Are there problems beyond Dan Morgan's absence?

Short fields today. 17 pts off 3 TOs. Woulda been nice if they'd held them to more FGs, but it was hot and they were on the field a lot in the 2nd half.

Other than that, the main problem is LB corps. Morgan can't stay in weekly, and the depth they thought they had is not Good Depth.

When the offense turns the ball over 3 times on fumbles, it makes it much more difficult for the defense.

We should have let Morgan go to FA and signed Witherspoon instead. I think they both have the same agent. He did a great job selling Morgan getting a new contract with the Panthers and getting Witherspoon a big contract with the Rams.

At one point TB had 117 total yards, and 3 touchdowns. Offense totally killed the Panther D today..They kept TB in the game, and then after the flea flicker play Simms got a little confidence, and they were worn down.

The lack of Morgan is causing all kinds of problems along the defensive front. He was a keystone defender as the starting MLB before this latest concussion.

I have picked up Minnesota's defense in several leagues where I started with Carolina as my D/ST. I expect to be playing matchups between the two for the next few weeks, as Carolina has clearly regressed, at least to start the season, while the cover-2 is working well with the personnel in Minnesota/vs. the competition the Vikes face.

If Carolina continues to stink, I may cut them outright (but I need a couple more weeks before I make that call). Morgan's return or lack thereof will help me make this call...

The LB corps suck. A majority of teams hold RBs to 2-4 yards and a cloud of dust on most plays. In Carolina it's either a carry for nothing/lose or a 5+ yard gain. Their coverage skills are weak as opposing TEs have been tearing them up.

I was thinking exactly the same thing yesterday. Morgan is clearly a fave of the mgt, however. One of their few misguided notions...

Any news on when Morgan is expected back in the fold? The best article I found was the following from the Charlotte Observer:
