Carolina QB situation (1 Viewer)

Any news if Fox is going to stick with Carr or will he possibly give Matt Moore a go? Me being a Steve Smith owner would be very interested in a QB change.

Let me know if you know anything!

Concussion throws QB job back in limbo

Carr faces more tests, but expects to be ready

JEFF SINER11/4/07 Carolina Panthers quarterback (8) David Carr lays on the turf at LP Field in Nashville, TN. Sunday after being tackled by Tennessee Titans (97) defensive tackle Tony Brown during fourth quarter action. Carr would be knocked out of the game following the tackle and replaced by (3) Matt Moore. The Titans defeated the Panthers 20-7. JEFF SINER -- jsiner@charlotteobserver.comCarolina Panthers quarterback David Carr said he suffered a concussion late in Sunday's loss at Tennessee.

He will be given the NFL-mandated baseline tests Wednesday to measure his cognitive skills and determine if he is ready to return to action.

That leaves Panthers fans waiting to see if either of their two most recent starting quarterbacks -- Carr or Vinny Testaverde -- will be healthy enough to play Sunday, when Carolina hosts Atlanta. Testaverde has a strained Achilles tendon.

Carr figures he will be OK.

"I've been better, but I feel all right," he said Monday afternoon. "I had a headache last night and a little one this morning, but I've taken some Tylenol and it seems fine.

"So it's not what they're calling severe. It's mild; I got my head knocked and got a little dizzy. They're just being cautious with it.

"I feel fine right now."

Carr said his only other concussion came in 2003, his second year with Houston.

Testaverde was unavailable for comment, having flown home to New York to spend today's off day with his family. -- S.O.

QB Olson likely to sign today

Former UCLA quarterback Drew Olson arrived in Charlotte late Monday night and will take a physical for the Panthers today, two league sources said.

If Olson passes the physical, it's likely the Panthers will sign him to the practice squad. Undrafted rookie Matt Moore is the team's only healthy quarterback.

Olson also has drawn interest from the Minnesota Vikings, the sources said and it's possible he could end up there.

Despite a productive career at UCLA, Olson went undrafted when he came out in 2006. He went to training camp with the Baltimore Ravens that year and played in NFL Europa this year, but has not been able to land a roster spot. -- P.Y.

Panthers center has broken thumb

Center Justin Hartwig played the last three quarters Sunday with a broken right thumb.

"Yeah, it's pretty jacked up; it's not good," Hartwig said, looking at the thumb, which was swollen to almost twice its normal size.

He said he didn't know if he would be able to snap the ball against the Falcons.

Should Hartwig not be able to play, rookie Ryan Kalil or veteran Geoff Hangartner would start in his place. -- S.O.
I hope Carr remains dizzy all week long. It seems that will be the only way Fox will let Moore start. Vinny is having problems with tendonitis in his achilles tendon, and Carr is just terrible. I like the way Vinny manages the game, but Carr is about as bad as Weinke was. I'd rather Moore start over Carr if Vinny is out.

I almost wish that Carr didn't have a concussion, just so I would have a reason to flip out when Fox tabs him the starter again. The concussion gives him an easy excuse to bench him, but I guess this way is better for my sanity though. Serenity now!

Trade him and see what you can get. The Panthers' QBs are horrible and can't get the ball to him. It doesn't help that he's triple covered every play either. Any TD throws go to guys like Colbert, Carter or King anyway.

man id be ticked if they gave me tylenol for my concussions. youd think an NFL-type would at least request some percocet. those things hurt. BAD.tylenol does absolutely nothing when youre talking about these types of injuries and head traumas. heck ive been prescribed oxycontin 20mg from an emergency room. and in actuality, it still really doesnt do a thing, mostly just distracts you from the fact that your head feels like its in a vice.

the pills do make movies more enjoybale however :bag:

Word on some of the Panther's forum and radio is that Matt Moore has a decent chance to start this weekend vs ATL. No links, just rumors and radio talk. The natives are getting restless in CAR. D Carr is horrible and fans will be screaming for John Fox's head if he allows Carr to start again. IMO, it's worth a shot for Moore, there is no chance they make the playoffs if the don't try something different.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — David Carr sat out practice with a concussion, but Vinny Testaverde was back on the field Wednesday, leaving the soon-to-be 44-year-old quarterback the latest front-runner to start for the Carolina Panthers.

Testaverde, who has not played since injuring his right Achilles' tendon in the loss to Indianapolis on October 28, practiced without limitations and split time with undrafted rookie Matt Moore.

"I thought both he and Matt Moore looked good," coach John Fox said. "It was a good practice. It was well executed."

Carr watched practice from the sideline, yet to be cleared from his concussion sustained late in Sunday's loss at Tennessee after a hit from defensive tackle Tony Brown. Carr was also sidelined last month with a back injury that forced the team to sign Testaverde, who turns 44 next week.

Fox gave no update on Carr's condition and refused to name a starter for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

It will either be Testaverde or Moore this Sunday. Take Carr out of the equation he is the #3 emergency back. I Testaverde makes it through practice Wed, Thurs and Friday then he is the starter. If not then it's Moore. Either way no more Carr.
