Carolina to run the "Wing T" with DWill, JStew and Newton? (1 Viewer)

I like how they signed their DE. I just thinking dumping all that money into a RB, when they're so deep at that position is an unmitigated disaster on a team with SOOOOO many holes.

I'd love to see the Wing T with 3 superior athletes in that backfield though. Never happen though...

I can't see them winning a lot of games by airing it out this year though that's for sure.

Just curious, but that is the second time you say they have soooo many holes. Where to you see the lack of depth. They need a corner for sure and they have 2 linebackers coming back from injury. They just drafted 3 wideouts last year and 2 showed potential. They are getting a pro bowl tackle back. I think they are closer now then most people realize since they basically resigned everyone. Getting Dwill back is huge.Obviously this is all contingent on Newton being just average which remains to be seen.

Common misrepresentation for folks who don't have enough knowledge of the team to represent.. They only look as far as the Panthers 2010 record and draw conclusions...Depth people! Look at the details..

No more Fox in and of itself is a huge upgrade. Fox is a boring unimaginative coach with little in the way of game day adjustments to adapt to the flow of the particular game.

Seriously, if you take out injuries (which they should be healthy going into the year), they have a great backfield, good O-line (they were decimated last year), they have Dan Conner, Jon Beason and Thomas Davis, Charles johnson on the line, and it looks like they will have Steve Smith back along with Brandon LaFell (I see him as a 700 yard guy in 2011)...they should be fine. By "fine", I mean a 6-7 win team, but obviously that is a big improvement. Atlanta had some very surprising years (they should have been awful) when they had Vick (who could not pass back then), Dunn and Duckett...I think the combo of DWill, Stewart and Newton is much more dynamic. When Carolina was good, they had fits when that team in ATL was assembled...no reason it could not be the opposite now.Sure, they could have gone CB (and in the end, it will be a major weakness), but guys will get systematically cut over the next few weeks and there is no reason they can't find a good stopgap to play opposite Gamble.

They have no depth at WR besides smith, very few playmakers on the defense. From what I understand they have a couple good LBs and Gamble. They don't have a proven backup in case Newton falls on his face (which is a distinct possibility). How about this, since I'm not an expert, you tell ME about their team strengths, as you're more an expert than I.In actuality this topic was supposed to be kind of a joke. But I'd be surprised if you can come up with a ton of depth and upside on this team as it stands.

DeAngelo has stated that there are some plays already in the playbook that feature him and Stewart in the same backfield, so it's a distinct possibility that you'll see Newton, DWill and Stewart back there together. My guess is that DWill motions out and tries to exploit the LB or Safety that tries to cover him.

O-Line, RB, LB are their strengths. If S.Smith stays, which looks like a possibility, they are capable at WR with Lefell, Gettis, Smith.D-Line could be better, & CB.. maybe QB/WR. #1, they aren't finished in free agency yet, #2, aside from CB, they have young players developing at these other positions.. Are you saying that behind a healthy O-Line, and with that running game, and with a full season under the belts of those young WR's, that they shouldn't improve? My point was that everyone is pointing to the contracts they've signed as huge road blocks for improvement (including you), but money wasn't as much an issue with Panthers as they had a lot more money to spend then most if not all of the other teams. And they've identified and retained their play makers. You pointed to Charles Johnson's contract, and suggested this will be a hindrance when trying to fill the other needs, you're incorrect. And they don't necessarily have to have big names at every position to be an average team in 2011.It's one thing to predict NFL outcome with an educated knowledge of the team, it's just silly how some won't look deeper than last seasons record to understand how and why a team got there or what the possibilities are for the future. And what their current situation allows for improvement.Panthers still have plenty of room under the cap, and they are a young team. The game plan for the last 2 seasons didn't make for good football, but certainly has left them in a good position to build. They have plenty of youth, great O-line, strong D-line (which are the first building blocks to a good team), what looks to be a good young franchise QB, and everything in place to keep that young QB comfortable (O-line, RB, TE, adequate WR's..)

If I had a dollar for every time some coach or player said 2 feature RB's were going to line up together, I'd be a millionaire. They always say that and it never happens.

Wildcat was so '08.Enter the Wing T.
It's kind of a funny topic, but I wont fault Carolina for making real-world moves just because they dont help my fantasy team. Almost every team needs at least 2 starting caliber RBs nowadays. Carolina is a run-first team, and they are well served to have redundancy at that position.

They really are running this offense?
While something was said about D-Will and Stewart being on the field at the same time, no they are not running the Wing-T. Actually the Wing-T is a high school offense. The OP was joking because of the signing. Carolina has not ran a Wing-T for the last 3 years of D-Will and Stewart and they surely are not going to start now. I'll give the OP credit. He made me laugh when I read it. Then I as go through the thread, I realized some folks may have thought he was serious. :bag:

Wing-T, ha! that would be funny. Do the Panthers have a great OL? If not, the wing-T will be shut down ASAP.

Defenses are too good and too fast to run that trickeration.

It would be cool to see them do something new though.
