Carolinas QB situation: Going with Jake again? (1 Viewer)

Have not heard much about this topic, but Jake was not that great last season then had a total meltdown in the playoffs.

Is Carolina heading into 2009 with Jake as the unchallenged starter again?

I think so. One other interesting bit on this is that all three of the QBs (Delhomme, Moore, and McCown (RFA)) in Carolina are in the last year of their contracts. Jake just turned 34 so he is no spring chicken and the Panthers just paid his $1M roster bonus. The Panthers have a new QB coach. All of this makes me wonder if the 2010 starter is not on the roster now.

Sadly, I think they will.Fox is ultra-loyal to his vets.I'm holding Matt Moore in 1 league, but I doubt he gets the opportunity. At least not this year.

I heard one of the Carolina beat writers on the radio that Delhomme is the man for now and they will be looking to bring someone in in the near future to groom as the heir to Delhomme. But for now the team does not appear to be looking to replace him as the starter (or even as competition) for this year. Plus, I believe they said there would be a $6 million plus cap hit if they cut or traded him (he accounts for $11 million vs the cap). Taking up nearly 10% of the cap will keep Delhomme as the starter (at least according to the writer).

Puzzling because it seems like Carolina is ready to win right now.

To use Jake another year then start grooming a new guy could close that window.

I wish that were true, but with or without an upgrade to Jake, I see no better than a 9-7 record for us this season. We have too many holes and I don't recall us putting back to back great seasons together. We are a yo yo team, up and down.

I'm surprised they haven't taken a look at a guy like Leftwich as at least an alternative to Delhomme.
