There was another thread on Palmer last week where many were thinking they may just shut him down for the year. I'm starting to think that he may be shut down for the season very soon.

I mean how is a guy out one week (and out of the blue for that matter), then play and look pretty good the next, and then out at the last minute again the next week when all signs pointed to him playing.

Fitzpatrick to start this weekend.

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Sunday's game at quarterback at the New York Jets in the place of injured starter Carson Palmer.

"We’ll see how Carson is on Sunday, but Ryan will start the game," Lewis said.

Palmer already missed the Sept. 28 game against Cleveland, a 20-12 loss to the Browns. Fitzpatrick was 21 of 35 for 156 yards, a TD and three interceptions in the loss. He also had a fumble.

"I think he’s very well prepared, he’s had a good week of work and had the work he needs and he’ll be ready to go," Lewis said.

Fitzpatrick said he's prepared all week as the starter and is confident this start will be better than his last.

Lewis said Palmer's injury is the same as it has been, but said it's not any more serious than it has been.

"Hopefully not, we’re trying to get it out of being a week-to-week thing," Lewis said. "We’re trying to get it calmed down to where it doesn’t give him any irritation or problems at all."

He ended up with decent stats but really didn't look all that sharp. He missed alot of open receivers and often badly.

Picked up Jets D yesterday in hopes of this as bye week filler for Tennessee, and now they look like its possible to get points on the same level as the highest tier D's.... my, how injuries and matchups effect the game!!!!

it's looking really likely at this point. it is awfully tough to release him, but i may have to bite the bullet very soon.

hell, at this point i'm wondering if derek anderson might be better to have on my roster. he's a free agent, and hey - at least he plays.

PALMER OUT, FITZPATRICK TO START FOR BENGALS

Posted by Michael David Smith on October 10, 2008, 1:06 p.m.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis confirmed today that quarterback Carson Palmer will miss Sunday’s game against the Jets, and Ryan Fitzpatrick will start.

Per Bengals.com, Lewis said Palmer’s elbow injury is not a season-ending condition, but that he hopes to give Palmer some rest now so it doesn’t get worse. Palmer could still dress on Sunday as the No. 2 or No. 3 quarterback.

As previously reported by 1530 Homer in Cincinnati, Palmer made only a brief appearance on the practice field today.

Palmer hurt his elbow during the September 21 game against the Giants and had his best game of the season despite the pain. But he missed the following week’s game against the Browns.

In that game, Fitzpatrick completed 21 of 35 passes for 156 yards, with one touchdown and three interceptions. Palmer has completed 75 of 129 passes for 731 yards, with three touchdowns and four interceptions this season.

QB's and elbow problems are never good.

My money is on Palmer eventually being shut down for the season. ( :goodposting: My 4th rd. pick.)

i just made a trade offer for philip rivers (offering fred taylor, anthony gonzalez, chad ocho cinco for rivers and hines ward) and i am eyeing free agents chad pennington, derek anderson, vince young and holy crap.....j.p. losman!?

I can only assume that Ocho and Housh take a big hit with this news? Are they viable starters?

ocho cinco certainly isn't this week, i wouldn't think. and if palmer is out for the year, ocho cinco takes a huge hit. housh maybe isn't AS bad, but i wouldn't have much confidence in either.

Of course he sits during my other QB's bye week..

ESPN did just report though that the Bengals do not see this as season ending or requiring surgury. They just think they need to rest him back to 100%. No link, saw it on TV.

I actually think Ocho Stinko's value rises with Palmer out...Palmer clearly has all eyes on Housh and if I remember correctly Ocho had his best game of the year with Fitz under center. I mean, his value can only go up at this point, can't it :link:

i really hope you're right.i hate risks, so i finally threw in the towel. i just released palmer and traded for ben roethlisberger.

Here is a little piece of an article last year on Jake Delhomme
Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme will not need surgery on his injured right elbow and will be day to day leading up to Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay.
There are other articles too saying the same thing. Obviously they were wrong.I'm not saying the same thing is wrong with Palmer, but last year after Delhomme was hurt they said the MRI showed no damage, and that it was a strained elbow. It turned out he had ligament damage, and he got a couple other things fixed too in his elbow when surgery was his best option. Hopefully Palmer's injury isn't as serious. One difference is that Delhomme couldn't pass the ball without excrutiating pain after the injury, and Palmer played in a game (against Dallas) after his injury.

Yeah that's the thing that makes it so confusing for me. He JUST played a FULL game in Dallas. He even looked good in the 4th quater. The only explanation I can see for this is that the Bengals have already thrown in the towel.

Or the aftereffects of that game were very bad.Or a combo of both.

Any more info on CP?

I have to start Brady Quinn this week if Carson is 100% OUT, since Edwards is on bye :( Pickup deadline was friday morning, when he was "all systems go"

it looks like palmer is 100% out unfortunately. this is the reason to allow free agent pickups up until gametimes.

Lots of rumors swirling that he will be out at least a month, some saying to expect him IR'd in the next couple of weeks.

Caught it on a message board, someone who says they have a source, so take from it what you will. Also been mentioned on a couple radio shows, again as rumor.

Honestly, this rule is almost as lame as leagues that allow people to pickup players during the games. OK, it's not nearly as lame, but is still lame. Everyone should be able to pickup players until 5 minutes before. I just flat-out can't understand why anyone would do it any other way.

My take(s)...

I didn't think Palmer looked good, like somebody said, last week. I didn't see much zip on the ball, but maybe that was me...

Palmer rarely even looks at CJ. I think he's had enough of him. What else could it be, where he just stops throwing to a guy?

CJ value can only go up, good time to buy...

Housh is probly a decent sell...

Fitzpatrick worth a look in 2QB leagues...
