Carson Palmer ready for week 1? (1 Viewer)

BowlBound

Adam Schefter is reporting on NFL network that Carson Palmer is running Cone drills and zig zagging in his two days of organized team activities... and he's throwing the ball. Marvin Lewis is saying he will be ready for week 1 vs Chiefs.

I saw the same thing, Bad news for the AFC North.

They also threw in Pollack only has a sprained ankle and could play this week if they had a game.

Why is that bad news for the AFCN? I think it's great he's going to play week 1.

I hate excuses and now there will be none...it's put up or shut up time in Cincitucky.

I don't know why there was ever any doubt. As I said in the other Palmer threads I've known several people go through torn ACL/MCLs and the ability to simply drop back and pass was never very far off.

Cutting is what takes years, and last I checked Carson didn't do a whole lot of cutting.

Agree. Great News for Palmer, I like the kid.

Great News for Cinci. Your team is at full strength.

Great News for Pittsburgh: When PIT steamrolls you crybabies in week 3 with Palmer playing, hopefully the Cinci snivelling can end once and for all. :towelwave:

That news sure gives me nipples!

During the off-season I traded E. James for young Mr. Palmer...

In a $120 salary cap auction league, I had E. James as a keeper @ $32 w/ 1 yr remaining on his contract...

I traded EJ and got Plamer for $9 and two years remaining as a keeper.....

I made this trade hoping to get 1.5 years out of Palmer.

If I get a full 2 seasons...it's gravy!

The Steelers know what he can do. They were a little more than fortunate when he went down early. Not sure they win a Super Bowl if Palmer stays healthy the whole game. Of course that's a mute point now.

yeah it is too bad...but like every year with every team...injuries are part of the game. When they happen, you're still expected to win...

Regardless, Palmer is a tough guy NOT to like as a person. So I am happy he looks like he will be fine and continue his bright future...

LOL.....I don't know why but that really made me laugh  and good news for the Bengals. They look to have a team that could be capable of having a winning record or at least .500 even without Palmer, with him, they're Super Bowl contenders provided the defense improves. I'm as big a Steelers fan as they'll come, but I guess seeing my team win the Super Bowl again finally is making me be generally easier going and letting the Steelers have a couple year grace period where they can do no wrong in my eyes. So I honestly don't care if the Bengals will be fantastic next year or not.

Should be some goooood battles between Pitt and Cincy next season though, I guarantee it. IMO, this will become the NFL's best division rivalry for years. Because with both teams now having stable organizations, and having franchises QB's, they'll both stay solid for a long while.

I agree. Speaking of the defense, adding Adams as a run stopper and a healthy Robinson and this team looks much better already defensively. If Palmer is healthy then you have to look at them as a serious title contender. Thats' asking a lot I realize but they can be that good.

Oh, I know they can be that good. Personally, I think in 2006 they'll be around an 11 win team again even though they're improved, and assuming Palmer stays healthy all year. They'll be better but they should have a tougher schedule than they ahd last year, so I see either the same number of wins or maybe one less. IMO, meshing together a good chemistry on defense takes longer than to do it on offense. So even though their good D players were young last year, and they signed good free agent defenders, I see their caliber of play being around the same, but a bit better than last season's.

In 2007, I see their defense really coming together and making them a Super Bowl frontrunner.

Actually, the Bengals will likely need to be considerably better to even approach their 11-5 record of 2005. And if they do, then they should be primed to make it to the Super Bowl.A closer look at their past season shows:

8-1 record against teams 6-10 or worse (lost to Buffalo in Week 16 at home)

3-4 record against teams 9-7 or better

Break down those three wins vs. winning teams:

Week 2 Minnesota HOME when the Vikings were in complete disarray

Week 3 Chicago AWAY well before the Bears put their season together (recall that the Bears started 1-3 and lost to the Browns the week after losing to the Bengals)

Week 13 Pittsburgh AWAY with Roethlisberger recovering from surgery and before the Steelers got on their Super Bowl run (Steelers record was 7-5 after this game)

The Pittsburgh victory was a touchstone of sorts and essentially clinched the division, and the Bengals clearly deserved their 2005 success, but by any objective analysis, they had only one impressive win against a winning team and recall that in that Steelers victory the Bengals were outgained 474-324 in yards but had a 4-0 turnover advantage.

Now look at the Bengals 2006 schedule:

6 games vs. teams that were 11-5 or better

2 games vs. teams that were 10-6

2 games vs. teams that were 9-7 or 8-8

4 of the other 6 games are in division against Baltimore and Cleveland who figure to be much tougher than their 2005 version

I'm relatively confident the Bengals players will still be good fantasy plays in 2006, but I'm not nearly as comfortable seeing the Bengals making the playoffs. Playing good teams every week wears a team down. For Exhibit A, see the 2005 Chargers.

Bengals fans, I'm just laying out the facts of the schedule. I think they are still a team on the rise, but 2006 looks like a very challenging year even without the questions surrounding Palmer's knee.

I think this year will tell us quite a bit about the Bun..err, Bengals. Their schedule is that of a Division winner (as it should be) and they will earn every win.

Steelers fans banking on that second place schedule as an advantage over the Bengals will be kicking themselves when the Jags end up better than the Colts and Dolphins pass the Patriots. The organization that cannot afford decals on both sides of their helmets does not have a cakewalk either this year.

our logos are painted on. Those stupid stripes are stickers? :snicker:

I think if thread proves anything, it's that Steelers fans are all just tired of their blue-collar jobs and fat women and seek out reasonable Bengals fans to pick fights with because they have to take it out on someone other than their children now and then. Or it could be a side effect from all of that Viagra.

Carson Palmer will be the steal of early fantasy drafts this year. How much running does a pocket QB need to do? Not to mention the Bengals should have one of the best offensive lines, running games, and WR groups in the league to make things even easier for him.

He's gone anywhere from late 3rd to early 5th. I wouldn't exactly call that a steal for a guy that's questionable to play a full season. Early ADP is 5.2.In some recent drafts I thought I'd sneak him in mid to early 5th but I found out it didn't work leaving me holding an empty bag.

Among FBG staff, he's rated much lower. I guess I was going by that.

True enough, the Steelers face a difficult schedule, too. However, unlike the Bengals, the Steelers had a considerable number of wins against teams with good records last year. The Bengals were 3-5 against teams that had 9 or more wins in 2006, including 1-2 of course vs. the Steelers.

The Steelers were 8-4 against teams that had 9 or more wins in 2006. Of course, the final four wins came in the playoffs, but the last time I checked, those are the games that matter the most.

What I'm more interested in seeing is how will the Bengals respond to playing tough games week in and week out, especially now that they have a target on their uniforms. If it's true the Steelers have the largest bullseye as the Super Bowl champs, well then it stands to reason that the Bengals are in the sights of other teams, too. After all, as Bengals fans keep reminding the rest of us, the Bengals were the 2005 AFC Central champs.

That's because you guys tend to be reasonable based on what you know. That doesn't always happen in the real world. It only takes 1 fan or believer to make that pick and change the ADP.

Who's picking a fight? The only things said here were that Steeler fans WANT Palmer 100% from the get-go so the barrage of excuses that rained down on us last year, won't happen again.I think some Bengal fans are suffering from a severe case of Lombardi envy.

Say what you want about the city of Pittsburgh, but...I can see your point a little...

Cinci is one of those thriving metropolises where all the jobs are high-paying white collar and the women are all physically fit...You always see movie stars hanging out there basking in the warm Cinncinati sun...Mmmmm. There's no place like it.

Personally, I'll take Carmen Electra (from Cincy) over any of the wildebeests I see wearing Big Ben jerseys any day.

Wow! Congratulations on living in the same general metro-area of where a celebrity is from. Hahaha. Must be a long, brutal off-season in Bunghole land.

Only 3 or 4 more months til next season. :banned:

But for real, it must be a nice consolation that you can say Carmen Elecktra is from Cincy. Way to go, GREAT JOB CINCINATTI! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Is it time to move this to the FFA yet?

Carson Palmer may play himself to the status of #2 QB in the entire AFC North...That would be quite an accomplishment and honor for him...

Palmer will not play until after the Bungholes bye week, write it down. Tim Benz from ESPN radio 1250 overheard John Clayton talking about Palmer and his rehab at some Mark Bulger golf event, John said "Don't count on Palmer being on the field anytime in Sept.". Bungholes are in trouble this year...

The kids are angry!

There's a difference between playing and playing well never mind to last year's standards. He's being drafted like he'll pick right up from last year--very risky since you'd have to burn a 3rd or 4th to get him.
