With McNabb as my other QB I could really use Cassel to start.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Matt Cassel appeared to be running more briskly in practice Wednesday morning, creating hope that Kansas City's No. 1 quarterback might start on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.

Cassel injured his left knee in a preseason game on Aug. 29 and sat out the season opener at Baltimore on Sunday. His left knee was still braced, but he did not appear to be limping slightly as he'd done in practice last week.

Brodie Croyle started in Cassel's place in the 38-24 loss to the Ravens and completed 16 of 24 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns.

Interesting. I am not sure if it is coach speak or what but this article says he might no play the whole game depending on "the way it is going" even if he is healthy. I am beginning to think I may look elsewhere.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel's status for playing in Sunday's home opener against Oakland is still uncertain.

Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel at practice.

KMBC's Karen Kornacki said that Cassel looked the best he has since his injury during Thursday's practice. On Wednesday, she reported that the quarterback appeared to be limping slightly after a throw, but Thursday there was no visible sign of limping on his plant leg.

Cassel has not yet participated in a full practice. Chiefs head coach Todd Haley said Wednesday night that Cassel had improved since his injury in the team's third preseason game.

During the press conference after the practice, Haley said that there was little change between the practices this week. He said the staff will keep monitoring Cassel's health and hopes to make a decision sooner rather than later.

Cassel said that he feels "leaps and bounds" better than he did, and that he hopes to play in Sunday's game. He said that he is looking forward to being in the home opener against division rivals.

While Cassel wants to play for the entire game, Haley admitted that the quarterback may only play for a limited time depending on how the game is shaping up.

The team has sold enough tickets to qualify as a sellout. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The decision whether Matt Cassel will play on Sunday in the Chiefs home opener against the Oakland Raiders will be made at game time, said head coach Todd Haley.

During a press conference Friday just after noon, head coach Todd Haley said that he put off his decision whether Cassel would play until Sunday morning. It is not certain if Cassel would play the entire game.

Cassel has been hampered by a sprained knee since the second preseason game against Seattle.

He has been held out in the last preseason game against St. Louis and the season opener against Baltimore last Sunday.

The game would be Cassel's first regular-season game for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Later at 6 and 10 p.m. on KMBC, hear from Haley about Cassel.
