Cassel (1 Viewer)

Seems he finally had his breakout game with good fantasy production in week 11. Will it continue through for the rest of the season? He only has one tough matchup the rest of the way. Any local media commenting on his play of late?

Cassel is not a good QB.

Bellichik is a great coach (you have no idea how hard that is for me to write) that gets the absolute most out of his players possible.

I wouldn't feel comfortable starting him against anybody but you saw last week what he is capable of producing. I expect QB2 numbers the rest of the way.

Does the system he's in and matchups forthcoming attribute greater to the possibility of success over the deficiencies in his skills set causing poor statistical outcomes? Or is it most likely the other way around?

Cassell may not be a great QB, but he has Moss, Welker, Gaffney, Watson, he can run the ball and he has a great coach who will put him in good situations.I like him from here on in. The only problem is that I do not have him on any of my teams.

Do you play the matchups, like in Cassel's case, do you play the talent, like a McNabb or Favre, late in the year?

as long as they keep giving up points cassell is going to keep scoring points. They have him throwing high percentage passes. In leagues that reward 1 point for every 20 yards passing he is going to be good for 20+ a week, imo. He is a benefactor of YAC thanks to the pats offense.

The 20 yard scrambles that he seems to come up with once a quarter are also a nice little bonus.

At this point I dont think they have the defense to stop teams from scoring and allowing BB to just run the ball for the last half of the game.

I see no reason why Cassell won't follow in Brady's footsteps. The Patriots likely win the Super Bowl this year, and the next few years with Cassell running the offense.

I have Farve in one league and I traded him in another. Farve had a huge 6 TD game, other than that he has been very average although he had a good game against the Pats.My feeling is that the Jest have turned into a run first, pass second team that had a good defense and will not be involved in many shootouts.McNabb..well when you sit him he will throw for 350 and 3 TDs, you start him and he gets you 125 and three INTs. You never know with him. I am not sure what the Pats playoff schedule is but I like Cassel as a matchup play.

Having Moss demands a lot of attention, so you have to take his production with a grain of salt considering the new team he'll be on next year. But you don't get 400 yds passing if you truely suck. It's not like he played the prevent defense all night. He's a lot better than people are giving him credit for

You have a quarterback that has not started since High School, his only game experience over the past 4 years has been in Pre-season and with the second and third string offenses (except for this year). To say he is not good based on 10 regular season games is pretty short sighted. With each week that Cassell has been under center he has improved, this was an offense that was built to Tom Brady's style of football and when Brady got hurt they had to scrap everything and rework the offense. Cassell did not have the luctury that Brady had which was relying on a solid ground game (Dillion), until he got his timing down and also his confidence up. Maroney went down three games later for the season then followed by Sammy Morris. Can Cassell throw the long ball, no he can not but lets not forget that the first three years that Brady was in the league, the huge knock on him was that he did not have that ability either. Brady worked on it and he got better at it and last year proved that with a solid receiving core he can put up monster numbers.Cassell has played 10 regular season games since high school, if he lands in the right situation next year he can be a solid and above average QB in this league for a long time provided he does not get injured.

I don't even know where to start with this one... if cassell follows in Brady's footsteps then he will LOSE the SB (and this is coming from a NE homer). Also, Cassell is in a contract year, and with the way he played this year I assume he will try and get a starting gig somewhere next season. Cassell will NOT be running the offense over "the next few years", mainly because they have some other gguy named Tom who will be the starter next year.

I think this may be a knee jerk reaction to Mcnabb's latest performance. Injuries aside, Mcnabb does not throw too many INT's. He is a consistent producing QB in FF. If you plug him in your lineup expectations are 200-300 yds and 1-3 TD's.

In my eyes his skill set is very limited. His accuracy is not good, his deep ball is horrendous, and I question his field vision (seems to go from option 1 to checkdown/scramble mode skipping everything in between too quickly). I believe Bellichik is getting 100% of what Cassel offers, you have to give him credit for that...and unless he is placed in equittably favorable situation in 2009 I think he will struggle mightily.

Cassell has two options available to him for 2009, he can come back and play for the Patriots, or he can leave and sign his big payday with someone else. My boss plays golf with him in New England and he has all but stated he will be taking the money next year. I can see him being the first option off the boards for teams looking for a QB next year. Having said that I can see him as a member of the Vikings next year. They have all the pieces in place for a QB to go and be very successful next year. They have a solid offensive line, a great running back, and also some above average wide receivers. If he is smart which I have been told he is, he could wind up in a better situation than he is currently in here in New England.

It would make perfect sense for him.His value will probably never be higher than it will be at the end of this season.

And with so many team having question marks at QB, he should be in for a sweet payday.

He obviously wants to be a starting QB in this league and I don't blame him, but I would think he could go to a team who's offense is better suited for him and his abilities. He works well in the Pats offense because of the short throws.....I would think a similar system would be the Jets.

Nothing like a little drama in the AFC east. Take a year(at most) behind Favre then its your team kid.

Financially speaking, taking the money is the smart thing for Cassel to do. He's cashing in when his value is at its peak. However, if Childress is still in Minnesota I strongly disagree he will be given a better situation than he is now in New England. Childress will find a way to ineffectively utilize him, as he has with most of the talent he's been given to work with since signing on in Minny. Furthermore, unless something is done to address the offensive line in the offseason he will find life much more difficult in Minny than New England. New England's oline is built for pass blocking, Minny for run blocking. Minny's line is terrible protecting the passer though and have been for a while now.

I cannot think of a situation in need of a QB that would be a better one for Cassel than where he is right now. Hopefully wherever he goes is the same place McDaniels goes, if McDaniels has that much of an impact on Cassel's performance it'd give Cassel the best chance to succeed when he leaves New England.

Not sure why you think it's so out of the question.Brady had a catastrophic injury, one that the surgery had complications to. We don't know if he'll ever come back to be the QB he used to be, and we don't even know if he'll come back for the entire 2009 season. Belichick is known for cutting guys loose "too early, rather than too late" and we've seen that this team can win games without Brady playing.
