Catching up on some movies (1 Viewer)

Despyzer

Lousy Attention Whore
I got behind on my movie-watching and plan to mostly catch up over the next couple of months. Here is my list of movies from the past three years or so that I plan to see. Which ones should I prioritize and which ones should I probably skip?

The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies (moderately enjoyed the first two)

Dumb and Dumber To (enjoyed the first two, a fan of stupid humor)

Big Hero 6 (not normally into kid's shows but heard this one was good)

Nightcrawler

Guardians of the Galaxy (like superhero movies but think they are starting to feel a bit played out)

Lucy

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Neighbors

Capt America 2

Muppets Most Wanted

Birdman

We're the Millers

American Hustle

This is the End

Oblivion (I enjoy trippy SciFi)

R.I.P.D. (enjoyed the graphic novel)

Her

Dallas Buyers Club

21 Jump Street

Life of Pi

Looper

Moonrise Kingdom (hot and cold on Wes Anderson)

The Watch

This is Where I Leave You

Inside Llewyn Davis (huge Coen Bros. fan)

Edit to Add:

Jupiter Ascending

Ted

Ex Machina

Boyhood

Interstellar

Chef

Frank

Edge of Tomorrow

Edit to eliminate those I've seen now.

Birdman EXCELLENT

We're the Millers. MEH

American Hustle GOOD

Her. VERY GOOD

Dallas Buyers Club. GOOD

21 Jump Street CRAP

Looper. OK

Moonrise Kingdom (hot and cold on Wes Anderson) DOUBLE CRAP

This is Where I Leave You FUNNY BUT STORY IS ALL OVER THE PLACE

Inside Llewyn Davis (huge Coen Bros. fan) MEH. WANTED TO LIKE IT BUT PRETTY DULL

I've been trying to catch up on a good 6-7 years worth of movies. I've seen some of these, though. In no order... sorry.

The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies) - maybe I was far too distracted (was also doin' some dynasty/rookie draft research), but I found it disjointed and nowhere near as good as I'd hoped it'd be.

Nightcrawler - reviewed in the "recently viewed" thread. 95% on RottenTomatoes but I thought it was only a 7/10. Worth watching though.

Lucy - was terribly disappointed. Great concept and everything, but fell flat for me.

X-Men: Days of Future Past - this was a great little popcorn flick, if you enjoy movies like this.

Neighbors - a few laughs here and there... predictable but if you want something mindless, here ya go.

We're the Millers - probably a little funnier than Neighbors

American Hustle - pretty slow, and long. But well-shot, from what I remember, with some solid acting performances.

Oblivion - I enjoy stuff like this, too, and really liked this.

R.I.P.D.- maybe it was just the wife losing interest more so than me, but we turned it off halfway through. I may give it a second chance if it gets on HBO.

Her - really quirky but a very interesting portrait of a very believable near-future.

Dallas Buyers Club - fantastic acting performances, worthy of a watch.

21 and 22 Jump Street - 1st was pretty good, 2nd was meh

Looper - go in expecting "not much" and you'll be pleasantly surprised... pretty good.

The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies (moderately enjoyed the first two) - If you liked the first two, you'll like this one.

Big Hero 6 (not normally into kid's shows but heard this one was good) - Not bad. Not wonderful or anything, but if you have kids, put it on and watch it with them.

Guardians of the Galaxy (like superhero movies but think they are starting to feel a bit played out) - Mediocre

X-Men: Days of Future Past - I didn't like it, but I generally don't like time travel flicks, due to the logical inconsistencies that annoy me.

Neighbors - Kind of dumb, but had a few laughs.

Capt America 2 - This is a good flick.

American Hustle - Another really good one. If you liked Casino or The Sting, you'll like this.

Dallas Buyers Club - Good, but not great, IMO. Worth watching.

21 and 22 Jump Street - Only saw 22, but it's funny.

Looper - I liked this one, despite the sort of time travel.

Nightcrawler - Interesting, worth watching

Guardians of the Galaxy (like superhero movies but think they are starting to feel a bit played out)- good, and I'm tired of superhero movies too.

Lucy - Could have been good, but isn't

X-Men: Days of Future Past - Ok

Neighbors - Dumb

Capt America 2 - Decent

We're the Millers - Kind of funny
American Hustle - Slow, boring, didn't finish

This is the End - Pretty bad

Oblivion (I enjoy trippy SciFi) - Ok

R.I.P.D. (enjoyed the graphic novel) Awful

Dallas Buyers Club - Oscar caliber performance, but I wouldn't ever watch it again.

21 and 22 Jump Street - Both funny, 1st one is better

Life of Pi - visually neat

Looper - Decent

Moonrise Kingdom (hot and cold on Wes Anderson) - Worth watching

The Watch - Don't remember it.

Dumb and Dumber To sucks and this is coming from a guy who lists Dumb and Dumber as one of my top five favorite comedies.

The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies - had high hopes and was disappointed. Not bad but not great.

Big Hero 6 - OK, liked LEGO movie and Wreck-it-Ralph much better

Guardians of the Galaxy - loved it. Great movie.

X-Men: Days of Future Past - pretty good, not great, but worth it.

Capt America 2 - loved it

American Hustle - pretty good. Very well acted. OK story.

Life of Pi - interesting, but I was a little underwhelmed.

Moonrise Kingdom - just seemed odd for the sake of being odd. I enjoy some quirky stuff, but not this.

Prioritize nightcrawler, oblivion, edge of tomorrow, 21 jump street, looper, and dallas buyers club.

Never ever watch Lucy. Just awful.

Did not see: D&D2, Nightcrawler, Neighbors, Millers, This is the End, Oblivion, RIPD, 21/22 jS, The Watch, This is where I leave you

Hobbit - you have to finish if you've watched them all. I LOVE Tolkein and saw all the Hobbits for a sense of completion but it wasn't great. These movies, while fun, don't touch LOTR

BH6 - I really liked this movie, San Fransokyo was such a cool place/idea. Very original and fun, kids loved it to

Guardians of the Galaxy - one of the best of the year. My favorite Marvel movie ever, so much fun. Even if you are getting tired of super hero movies this one is different, breaks the mold a bit, funnier than most.

Lucy - great idea, really good moive, SUCK ENDING! Prepare yourself

X-Men - Fun, cool concept. A bit tired of x-men but this was worth price of admission, it was done well.

CA2 - my favorite of the Avengers seris of movies. Really liked this a lot and CA 1 was probably my least favorite Avengers movie. It wasn't as good as GotG but better than any other Avenger flick

Muppets - ok. It was fun but forgettable

Birdman - One of the best movies of the year, maybe the best. Probably a love it or hate it, I LOVED it. One of my favorite scores ever, so cool. If you ever wanted to "watch" jazz, this is the movie. Keaton was awesome, so happy to see him do something great again.

American Hustle - really solid movie, not amazing. Worth watching but didn't blow me away

Her - very interesting, creative movie. Really liked it a lot. I like visionary, near future sci-fi. Lots of interesting questions in this movie

Dallas Buyer Club - ridiculously great perfromance by Wooderson himself. Good movie with a GREAT performance

Life of Pi - I really dug this movie, visually amazing. Of all the movies you mentioned, this is the one you should have seen in the theaters. Best visual movie since Avatar

Looper - Love sci fi, loved this flick. One of my favorites last year, just really like the idea and story, everyone was good in it.

Moonrise Kingdom - typical Wes Anderson. If you like him you'll love it. If you don't, you wont. I thought it was one of his stronger movies, really liked it but understand why a lot dont

Inside Lewyn Davis - prepare yourself for disappointment. Was probably looking forward to this movie more than anything else on the list. I loved the soundtrack, liked the cast, everything about it looked like it was right in my wheelhouse. I thought it was SO boring I couldnt' believe it. I can't express enough how disappointing this movie was to me.

If I were ordering the to must sees....

Birdman

Guardians

Life of Pie

Dallas Buyers Club

CA 2

Looper

Hobbit

BH6

Everyting else

Have fun. Just sitting around tonight waiting for a job to run on our server with nothing better to do. Happy to have a thread to pass the time. :)

Oh, I saw Oblivion. Interesting idea, unlike many people enjoy Tom Cruise's action flicks (loved the last MI and looking forward to the next one), but it wasn't great. Worth watching but could have been a lot better.

I was confusing that with Edge of Tomorrow which I did not see but heard was fantastic. I just keep missing this one. Going to watch it soon.

Oblivion would go in everything else, not half the sci fi move that Looper is.

Some others I liked if you didn't see them last year or two....

Imitation Game

Chef

American Sniper

Wild

Frank (really cool movie)

Interstellar

Unbroken (not as good as I hoped but still good)

Boyhood (not great, slightly overrated, but worth a watch just for the commitment and what is is)

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (apes on horses with machine guns, what more does an action film need?)

LEGO

The Song - faith based movie done really well

The Giver - many didn't like this, I thought it was really good for a YA flick

Jupiter Ascending - not great but again if you like sci fi a fun flick. Bit of a mess but still fun

McFarland - this was actually REALLY good, went on a day when nothing else was playing and was way better than my expections. Feel good movie.

Paul Blart - I know it's stupid but my kids and I love Paul Blart, just as good as the first one. If you hated the first, don't bother. If you liked it, watch this one.

Nice. This reminded me of a few others that I should probably add to my list: Jupiter Ascending, Ted, Ex Machina, Boyhood, Interstellar, Chef, Frank. I'll look into some of the others you recommended that i don't know enough about.
