CB Jalen Ramsey, MIA (1 Viewer)

Dolphins placed CB Jalen Ramsey (knee) on injured reserve.
This is more of a formality, as Ramsey was already expected to miss the majority of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus early in training camp. The veteran cornerback isn’t expected to return until December and has reportedly fared well early in his recovery.

Another failed free agent for the Miami Dolphins
Ramsey has played alright for Miami but he missed a lot of the '23 season upon arrival, messed up his knee in camp as I recall
Then last year he was a non factor once Tua went down and Miami was out of the Playoff race most of the season

I'm sure he wants out of Miami as much as the team wants to move on from him

The fire sale you and I talked about begins.

This team is going nowhere and are about to purge this roster.

Oh well……rebuild V7 forth coming.

What's sad is when Tua is upright and the OL is not in shambles, this team actually can put points on the board, they're built to do it.

-I find it incredibly concerning that Grier seems to have no pressure to produce and he's gotten away with trading picks for vets to try and win now and it's failed
So now this guy who has been in charge since 2016, you're going to give him 10 picks or more if he trades away Ramsey and Hill, waste all those picks since Grier over his time in Miami has almost nothing to show for the last decade of drafts

I realize I'm preaching to the choir but what are the odds McDaniel wants to be part of a rebuild?
I think most Gen-X and younger Miami fans have had enough of the rebuilds and the BS that gets dished our way
And yet they have no problem at all filling up Hard Rock on Sundays

Spending on a mid career CB has to be the worst ROI in football. Even worse than RBs. All of these guys just fall off a cliff after their big late 20's contract. Nnamdi, Revis, Gilmore, Lattimore, Byron Jones, Diggs, Howard, Peterson, Norman, Sherman, etc.

They all become liabilities and a waste of money almost immediately.

Is he any good at all anymore or living off reputation? Vikings should send a 5th if so. They need it and can afford it.
I could be wrong but I believe he rated high on PFF, not sure what the exact sauce is they measure things by but Ramsey can still play, for sure
I'd probably put Ramsey around CB10. There's been a real big influx of youthful talent the last 3 years. Ramsey (or a healthy Jaire Alexander) is probably the best CB over 26.

They don’t get my money……we give that to the Florida Panthers.

Best value in town.

I feel like most positions other than QB, its case by case.

Nnamdi was certainly a bust in Philly. Terrible fit for the defense in Philly but also seemed like a guy who got paid.

Revis was still a great CB, Tampa just sucked. He bounced back big with NE the next season. He was still decent when he retired, just not at his peak level. Could have easily been a solid starter for another couple seasons for contender if he'd wanted.

I certainly wouldn't call Gilmore bad ROI at all, he was a huge part of the Patriots Super Bowl teams. Literally won DPOY for them and was arguably their most important player after Brady. If anything, he's an example of the opposite. Hell, last year in Minnesota wasn't bad, and that was his worst season.

Lattimore has always been vastly overrated. He peaked as a rookie. He hasn't been a difference maker in like 5 years. That was an obvious bad decision at the time.

Byron Jones was always an iffy signing. He was a #2 who got paid like he was a top notch #1. Desperation move that ended as expected.

Diggs is tough to say. I always thought he was overrated as he was SO BOOM/BUST, but he also got paid when he was 25, so I don't know how much that really qualifies, plus injuries have been his issue of late more than play. Hard to predict a 25-year-old is going to suddenly be unable to stay healthy.

Howard was another member of the vastly overrated at the time team. Basically had 1 really good season.

Was Peterson a bad deal? I mean, he was a quality player his entire Cardinals run, and when he left he signed 2 relatively cheap 1-year deals with the Vikings.

Norman was still good for a couple years after his big deal. But the cliff came VERY fast after that, and he was 25 when he got his deal, and was done by 29.

Sherman is debatable. Was extremely important to the 2019 49ers team that was in the Super Bowl, he just hurt his knee after that and then couldn't get healthy and was done in 2 years.

Which brings me to Ramsey. I don't think he's been a bad move for Miami, just not a great one either. He was however, a key player to the Rams 2021 Super Bowl team, so his getting paid was an excellent move for 1 team, and not so much for another. Now at 30, he's still a quality starter in my opinion, but I wouldn't be expecting more than 2-3 years of good play. To a contender, I can certainly see trading a 3rd rounder for that. That would have been a lot better investment for Washington than Lattimore.

I think the recent Surtain/Stingley/Johnson extensions were all good moves. Sauce/McDuffie will be too. Now, guys like Ward, Terrell, or Horn, those feel more likely to bust, and I'd argue Ward is another guy who has been vastly overrated since he went #4 overall.

More breaking news in this story continues to come in...Ramsey DID NOT ASK for a trade
Why would the Phins want to trade Ramsey when he's one of the few players on the roster that played all 17 games last season?
His contract actually is quite cap friendly after this upcoming season
Miami gave him a 3yr/$72M extension and made him just about the highest paid CB in the NFL last season
Chris Grier is a nightmare as a GM and I felt that way when they hired him, nothing has changed for me and it's been going on for over a decade
Not a single Playoff win and only made the Playoffs a couple times

-Stephen Ross still the owner?
Internal rumors are that Grier will become VP of Operations and then they will hire a GM which means Grier will still be in charge and meddlesome
Miami is one doomed franchise

His cap hit jumps next season. Better to trade a guy a year early, than a year late.
