I was struggling with this also. There is an option available which I have verified through CBS e-mails.
This is the process:
Have FAAB through your set day. After FAAB is completed, need to go into settings and change from 'FAAB' to 'process add/drops immediately'. Change back to FAAB after Sunday games begin. Do this every week. CBS said FAAB dollars should remain correct throughout the changes.

Will this work if we change it twice a week, Thursday and Sunday for free agent pickups? Sounds like it should.
We want to run FAAB waivers on Thursday morning, then have a chance to pick up free agents for Thursday night games then go back to FAAB until Sundays when we want free agents again.
What happens to players waived on Thursday morning of we switch to process add/drops immediately; I assume they're available immediately but any chance they are locked into waivers or at least marked w/ an asterisk?
We've been using FAAB w/ free agent claims via message board so commish has to make manual adds. This will already be an improvement.
