CBS Sportsline problems in week 6 (1 Viewer)

It is week 6 and they are still having server problems. Can't view scoreboard, giving errors. I am so fed up with CBS Sportsline. I hope I can convince league to change next year.

(rant over)

I think we are being too hard on CBS. This site has worked well all week until now. Sure, it doesn't work on Sunday's, but let's not overlook how reliable it is on Wednesday's.

Back up now.
Not for me, it ain't. :thumbdown:The kicker is that I want to send them a message complaining about what is happening but I CAN'T DO IT BECAUSE I NEED TO ACCESS MY HOMEPAGE IN ORDER TO GET TO THE MESSAGING AREA. Good grief!

I'm guessing that's sarcasm... imo the analsyis on sportsline has been declining over the past 3 years. Sometimes I swear their player comments are autogenerated by an algorithm... "expects to bounce back".. "keep it going".. "find it easier"... etc... give me a break. Not to mention their projections and weekly forecast player stats aren't even being looked at by a human anymore. Joey Harrington projected at 3 points? gimme a break...Now the live scoring isn't reliable either... I guarantee our league will be voting about using something different next year.... :wall:

I know this is off topic but sorry. I work in IT and it is unacceptable. They provide a product and they need to have enough servers to maintain all the users. Their server farm needs to grow to accomodate all the users.

This site had a slow response time a few weeks ago and they resolved the issue. Joe even posted what they were doing to resolve it.

Know your customer and provide a reliable product. CBS has been this way at least half of the time for the first game of every week.

NFL.com has caused my browser to shut down about 5 times already this week, using both Firefox and IE. Anyone else having this problem?

3rd week in a row. I wnanted to waive J.Stevens and pick up another TE and couldn't.Money league, I asked both commishes to ask for refund.!This is BS paid money for league. How many years can they have the same probs.

It's CBS, not some start up company with a limited budget. It just came up my CBS league about 45 minutes ago. No one in the league, fifteen guys didn't have access from about 10 minutes to kickoff until then......BS.

This kind of stuff has been going on all season, no one can convince that CBS does not have the resources to overcome a busy server, seriously.

This week (6) my league got an "An Error Has Occurred. We are sorry, but an error occurred while serving your request." message when trying to access the league homepage.

But we can still access any page but the home page (including Transactions and Live Scoring) from the Navbar, even after getting the message.

Is this the same problem you have all had, too? Or is it different?

FWIW, I just sent a complaining message to CBS via the "help center" on our league's homepage. I basically demanded to know exactly what was causing the problem and what they are doing to insure that it won't happen again in the future. I also threatend to take my league elsewhere if I don't get a satisfactory response (whatever that might be). They have been pretty good about responding to my questions in the past so I'm hoping for a response to this one as well. I'd encourage anyone else who has beeen having these sort of problems to do the same. If they get enough complaints, who knows, they might actually do something about it.

did the same, didn't threaten, just basically told them to get my league's website up.i'm sure they're trying, just not solving the issue.

Horrible interface, incompatible scoring systems, but excellenct service and a price that can't be beat.
why doesnt mfl make an easier interface...why cant they have all the bell & whistles that cbs does....is it the bells and whistles that cause the problems?

if it isnt than i have to ask again... mfl raise they style a bit.

I thought something was wrong today, but I was at a different location and not sure if it was that location's internet provider or CBS. Now, I find out it was CBS. No point emailing them. I've never ever gotten a response to any email sent to CBS. Not from my personal email or the website.

I sent them an email at the beginning of the year when they deleated all off-season transactions from our league transactions report. (To my knowledge, this happened in more than just my league, though not sure of all CBS leagues.) This was a first. Been with them for over 5 years and they never removed any transactions before. I threatened to switch next year due to terrible service and unreliability. Doubt it will happen though, my guys are too comfortable with CBS.

Server reliability problems and poor service are a reality with CBS. I doubt this will change any time soon either.

edited to add: CBS is down right now!!!

I wouldn't mind the early-90s HTML interface if their scoring system was compatible with my league's rules. It sucks having to manually calculate everyone's waiver budget every week because the MFL mainframe is incapable of performing simple addition and subtraction.

We've used cbs for 5 years. For 5 years, we have all known that it's not worth your time to try to access the website between 1pm and 4 pm on Sunday. I track my players on nfl.com and then check scores after 5 pm. If I'm in a close matchup, I'll put up with the 2 minutes it takes to load the scores.

a) You'll have to provide more detail because the budget calculation works for us.b) What scoring rule do you have that it won't take?

c) If you e-mail the owner's they'll likely add something that's missing to the wish list they collect from their customers.

Would someone please explain what's so difficult about clicking on a drop down menu? Maybe I'm missing something but I can access and implement most everything in just a few seconds.

Another comment for those requesting more servers at CBS. This is a huge company and you don't just go out a buy a server. You have to ask for it in a budget (probably a year in advance). If it survives the budget process then a capital expenditure request has to be made a approved by management. This is not like a smaller company where someone opens the checkbook and it's done. With all their other ventures, I'm sure FF is high up the priority list for the CBS management.

:lmao:

Every summer the Sportsline fans tell everyone else how smart they are for paying $130 for the best hosting service out there. And every year CBS has more problems than anyone else. GB using AOL's free service that does everything we need, has live scoring, and hasn't had any problems since week 1.

a) when you cut a player in our league, you can keep 50% of his salary for your waiver budget. (i.e., cut a $12 player and keep $6 for your cap). MFL won't support this. Also, we use both Blind Bidding and First Come First Serve waivers, yet MFL only charges the BBs against the cap. (We have to manually deduct the FCFS waivers from everyone's budget.)Also, MFL has no support for eBay-style bidding. (i.e., if you bid $20 and the next highest bid is $12, you're only charged $13).b) we deduct an additional 2 points for INTs that are returned for TDs. MFL can't seem to calculate this.c) we have emailed them and their response is just, "Thanks for the suggestions."

After this week, I am done with Sportsline. Why I am paying $150 for a server that doesn't work on Sundays? I'd rather keep track of my leauge on paper. Seriously. They are going to lose a TON of money next year if they don't get this sorted ASAP.

I don't know why, and I have no doubt that others are having problems with sportsline, but I just never seem to have the problems. As commisioner in one league I had one guy last week say that the site was down and he couldn't put his line-up in. The 11 other owners had no problems, and he never tried to call or e-mail anyone so I'm not really sure what that was. Live scoring will get a little sluggish at times but thats about all I've encountered in the past 3-4 years.

that's not a correct statement - from this post (dated Feb 4, 2006):
-there is a new option on the "for commissioners > setup > salary cap setup > general salary cap setup" page called "Percent Of Player's Salary That Should Be Charged To Franchise Owner When Player Is Dropped" - entering a percentage into this field will cause the system to automatically generate the appropriate salary adjustment when a player is dropped via waivers. Note that the commissioner can later go to the "for commissioners > setup > salary cap setup > edit salary adjustments" to later delete this salary adjustment, as needed based on your league rules.
b) we deduct an additional 2 points for INTs that are returned for TDs. MFL can't seem to calculate this.
that's not a correct statement - from mfl's All Supported Positions and Scoring Rules page, item numbers 10 and 11 in the "Currently Supported Scoring Rules" section:
10. Number of Interceptions Thrown Returned for a TD This is the number of pass interceptions that a player throws in a game that end up being Returned all the way back for a TD. This category is only valid for offensive positions. X

11. Length of Interception Thrown Returned for a TD This is the length in yards of a pass interception that ends up begin returned all the way back for a TD. This category gets evaluated for EACH Interception that is Returned for a TD in a game.
that rule has been supported for at least 4 years.i'm curious - when did you check out myfantasyleague.com to come to these incorrect conclusions?

BS. Throwing servers at the problem probably will not fix the problem. It could be not enough bandwidth, database writing issues or any other list of problems. But they are running a business and a good business plan is to resolve the issues, not wait until next years budget. I am sure this department has their own budget and can operate as needed.Week 1 problems are expected, not prepared for all the new users, etc. Week 2 is not great, but acceptable. But these problems should be resolved by week 6.

CBS is STILL is not working for me today...

I run two leagues...one on MFL and one on CBS. Both will be on MFL next year.

People can say what they want about yahoo leagues but I have had zero problems with yahoo leagues in the past. I am in a very competitive league at yahoo - remember the competitiveness of a league has ZERO to do with what service you use (people tend to forget that).

Yes it is, depending on the way your league is set up....

True, MFL will show a credit of $6, but what it won't do is apply that $6 towards your cap. The money is separated from your salary cap.So, for example, if you have a $100 waiver budget, and you cut a $12 player, the MFL system will NOT show a $94 net.

This situation is made even worse when you combine blind bids with FCFS and FA maneuvers -- MFL has no way to integrate them all into your cap.

:goodposting: This is correct. The host of problems that could be the culprit is too lengthy to get into here. However, being a person in this field I'll say this. If my "paying customers" experienced downtime like this...I'd be in serious jeopardy of losing my job.If it was a free service...I wouldn't complain at all. It is what it is. You get what you pay for. But since we are paying...more than any other site...I expect to get service better than every other site.I'm using MFL for the first time in a new dynasty league some of my buddies and I came up with. I don't mind it I guess...but getting all the rules hammered down and such took quite a while. Seems to be fine now. Just wish the live scoring for Gameday worked like the Live Scoring for Sportsline. But I could nitpick every site all day. Bottom line is that for the past few years, I've had no real issues with Sportsline. This year though....wow....very poor.

Maybe its just the servers that each individual league is on. I usually start mine up around 11am eastern and I haven't had a problem all year. Until yesterday, but that only lasted about 15 minutes and I was able to get in again. I read about all these problems people are have and am suprised, because I'm not having them, knock on wood. For the record I'm using DSL to access the internet.

what disturbs me most about this thread is not that CBS Sportsline is perpetually down, but that people here are surprised by it.

lol yes, this is the worst part.it is some sort of abusive relationship where the wife who gets beat never presses charges.i am hoping some sort of CBS Sportsline counseling hotline can be established so people can get help.

The problem is that most people NOT USING FOOTBALLGUYS.com think CBS Sportsline is the rock star of fantasy football. At least for the pay leagues. (Excluding free yahoo leagues)Convincing the rest of your league to switch is the hard part. When I am the only one that wants to switch to mfl.com or rtsports.com it is hard to force a change. Yesterday was a good example to see if I can get others to consider moving.I posted my concerns on my football league message board while it is hot issue.

Sportsline's actual product is pretty good:

- superb interface

- easy-to-use statistical analysis (way better than Yahoo or MFL)

- detailed pages for every player (I like being able to add/trade for a player directly from this page -- also not available with MFL)

If their site didn't crash every Sunday, they'd be the best league management site on the net.
