Cedric Cobbs (1 Viewer)

Some yahoo posted a rumor about him starting the next preseason game with no link, no credible source for the story. But...

What's the deal with Cobbs? Does he just suxor? Or could he...possibly...maybe...in some weird Shanahan maneuver ever find his way as DEN RB1? Given the lack of stellar options, any Denver homers (or others in the know) have any info on the guy and some odds that he could become a starter at some point?

everything i've read has put Cobbs as the #3 behind Bell/Bell, ahead of Dayne, and ahead of Nash.

worst case scenario is a very valuable handcuff, best case scenario he's a guy who has a decent chance to start if mike bell falters.

I asked this in the Mike Bell thread and got this answer... sorry about the format.

If Mike Bell gets hurt or struggles, how would that affect Cedric Cobbs (assuming he makes the team as the 3rd RB).

Do you see Tatum taking over as the feature RB?

Or do you potentially see Cedric taking Mike Bell's spot with Tatum remaining as a 10-12 touch guy?
Tatum won't be the feature back. Period.

His strength lies in his speed. Especially when he's fresh and the defense isn't. He is not a good blocker, short yardage guy, or possession guy.

Mike Bell will be the man and get the majority of carries. Bell will get his 7-12, depending on Mike Bell's effectiveness and how Tatum does with his touches.

IMO, if Mike Bell were to get hurt, Cobb would be the starter and Tatum's role wouldn't change.

You can not dismiss ANY RB on the Denver roster and I suspect Cobbs will make the final roster. He is definitely worth a flier.
:hijacked: Which is exactly why I stay away from Denver RBs in a dynasty/keeper situation:1) You need 3-4 roster spots just to hit the right guy.2) The following year, Shanny might change the flavah!

I kindof agree. But I think Bell will put up the best fantasy numbers regardless of position. And that's what we're all after here.I think it's likely Cobbs will start a game or two. Pencil him in for 300-500 yards or so with 3-6 TDs, but get the erasor ready. (you never know with skelator)

Worst case scenario, he gets cut.... never know. We've already heard Dayne may be cut, but Shanny was enamored with him not too long ago. They won't keep 5 RBs.... either Dayne, Nash or Cobbs is gone.

I'd say you have a 2 out of 3 chance of being right on this.

Good point. Actually, worst case scenario is he dies from the Bird Flu. Never know. :goodposting:

The rumor is not that he will start the next pre season game , the rumor is from Denver that Shanahan made him the starter for the first game of the season.Sounds silly but could be true since Mike and Tatum Bell suxor in preseason and that he has all the tools compare to both Bells.

While I have no link as well - I would not be surprised if Cobbs gets the start on Thursday. This game is the throwaway game in the exhibition schedule, Cobbs has some great stats for the preseason but running against the 2nd and 3rd string defenses. I think the coaching staff for the Broncos may want to see what he can do against the "first" string defenses and behind the first string o-Line, they won't have long to do so. Then he gives way to Nash and Dayne(if he can play). IMO, M Bell remains the starter, but remember 5 times in the last 11 seasons has the opening day starter ended the season as starter in Denver. Talk radio yesterday had speculation that T Bell may become trade bait as he is the most marketable player available and allows Shanny to keep both Dayne and Cobbs, but trades are difficult to pull off this late to the cut date as teams may wait to see what falls out elsewhere.

Actually, the rumor as I heard it (from the locked thread) was that Cobbs would start the 4th preseason game, and then people were extrapolating from that that he'd be the opening day starter.Cedric Cobbs hasn't gotten a single carry with the first team offense. He might be starting on Thursday. That's all you need to know in order to figure out that Cedric Cobbs will not be starting for Denver in week 1.

I think the question was this: IF M. Bell were to falter, would Cobbs get the next crack at the job? It's been well established that Tatum is nothing more than a change of pace guy.

:jawdrop:You posted in a Cobbs thread WITHOUT a direct rip of Cobbs???Who are you and what did you do with Kit Fasto???!?! :hot:

Shanny said on sports radio today that none of the starters would play in the next preseason game, except for the RBs. So Bell, Bell, and Cobbs will play (and he did seem to talk just about those 3). He said they would all play because it isn't settled yet.
