Cedric Houston (1 Viewer)

From Rotoworld:

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports running back Cedric Houston is likely to start for the Jets on Sunday at Green Bay.

The Journal-Sentinel does a good job of getting the inside track on opponents' situations so it's a reliable source. Houston will give way to Leon Washington on third downs but has a good chance to score at Lambeau on Sunday, as his forte is in short-yardage situations. Dec. 2 - 11:09 am et

I am considering starting him in my flex spot. The problem is that I have NO idea what kind of numbers to expect from him. Actually, I do - 60yds and a possible TD, but obviously that's only a guess. I'm just not seeing a lot of upside with Washington in the mix.

I am using him as my Flex spot. Westbrook & Gore as RB#1 & RB#2.

Against GB, I believe Houston will get 18 carries for 75 yards and a good chance for 1 TD. I am not counting on the TD as I think Pennington will throw it and not have the running game get it.

I am starting him over Clev RB J Wright, Mia RB S Morris and Chi TE D Clark

He's gotten 11 carries each of the past two games when there were 3 RBs in the mix. If you remove Barlow and give Barlow's carries to Houston, he stands a good chance of getting 15-20 carries today. Even if the Barlow carries are split between Houston and Washington, Houston has a good chance to get 12-15 carries at the very least. He should be the goal line RB no matter how the carries are divided.

I think projecting 60 yards and a TD is very reasonable with the potential for more.

I think the Jets go smashmouth this week with Ced - starting him over TJ - think its his breakout game.

i agree, and think he would have knocked out Barlow sooner had he not been injured. Was very impressed with the way he ran last year behind a decimated line, and 3rd/4th string qb

:hey:

With Colston injured and Stallworth's valued killed by McNabb's injury, I'm starting him. I usually tend to start a WR over my last RB given that I'm thin at the latter position.

I would agree with the consensus here... he gets Barlow's touches, or at least most of them or just splits with Washington then he is at least startable as a RB3.

My Rb's have fallen apart so I'm starting him over the unfortunate likes of TJ Duckett or Buckhalter haha, so I am actually excited to have a "starter" for todays games.

Let's go Houston!

16-68 1 TD, 1 catch 12 yds

I just picked him up and put him in for Stallworth at Flex because of this thread. Hopefully you guys are right on. I was able to pick up Jason Wright also. My season is done at 2-10 but I still have 4 weeks left to win high score $50 prize

I'm definitely starting Houston, and waffling between Morris/Bush/Foster as my RB2.

He could easily put up 20-80-1, 2-15.

Cedric was certainly a nice suprise today. I was fortunate enough to grab him from FA yesterday, and actually gave him the start since I wasn't sure that Tatum Bell would play.

Next week he's got Buffalo at home, and I'm thinking I will start him again. Thoughts about next week, everyone?

Next week is a battle of horrendous run D's. Both are giving up over 130 a game, and the Colts are the only team to give up more rush TD's than the Jets. I think Houston and McGahee will be huge next week.

With the Jets quietly improving, and continuing to have a realistic shot at the playoffs, does Houston's performance force Mangini to rethink the rbbc approach? I am hoping to have struck waiver wire gold right at the buzzer with Houston, and am looking for any insight on how many carries he will get from here on out.

Just my personal opinion but if yesterday's game is any indication I wouldn't think the RBBC will end. While Houston played very well, Washington also looked good. And the Jets offensively looked good so Mangini may like the formula that was put in place and continue it until it stops working so well. Looking ahead: I like Houston a lot next week but his schedule after that is not good with matchups against Minnesota and Miami. If your league goes through Week 17, he is looking good against Oakland.

Houston is not a complete enough back for Mangini to abandon the RBBC. He is a bit slow, and can't hold a candle to Leon Washington on the draws, pitches, and screens. Houston will likely see plenty of work next week too, but let's not forget that Mangini is very willing to make changes based on pracitce. If Houston gets complacent this week, he may see a drop in his usage.

Most coaches don't rotate backs in and out of the starting lineup based on practice performance, so it's worth noting.

In any case, it's also a gameplan issue. If Mangini feels that buffalo is vulnerable to outside runs, screens, and misdirection, Leon Washington will get a greater share of the work. If Mangini wants to attack the middle of the D, I suspect Houston would get the carries. I also think that it is unlikely that Barlow is out of the equation. He has been a good soldier and an excellent short-yardage and goaline back. I think that the injury to Tim Dwight, which created a need for another special teams player, forced Mangini to sit Barlow outright instead of activating him and giving him a few carries in the right situations. Of course, those situations are the ones most detrimental to Houston's fantasy success, since Barlow has been great at the goaline all year.

Good info. How long is Dwight out?
