Celek (1 Viewer)

I am interested in your thoughts on Celek... how does he look? Is he someone you feel could be relied upon to be consistent?
Some on this board will downplay his ability because he isn't the most athletic TE out there - but the fact is that the guy has good hands, knows how to get open, and has suddenly shown that he's a beast to bring down. His blocking is at least improved, but the lack of depth at TE on this team keeps him on the field. He's definitely worth a roster spot, and if he's your #1, you could do a lot worse.

He runs the routes he's supposed to and has excellent hands. He's a fantastic play as long as Kolb is starting, and he'll still be a decent one when McNabb comes back. He's not fast, so you're not gonna see him do what Dallas Clark did last night, but that's true for most tight ends.

I have Zack Miller and J Finley. I have 8 free agency trades left for the season. I am in a PPR league. Would you rather have Celek over the two that I have? He is available right now. Miller didn't even have a catch last week. If I pick up Celek, would you start him over Miller?

I dont know that I'd take him over Zach Miller. I have him and have looked at Celek. I'm looking to package Zach Miller and Cadillac for a #3 WR and then pick him up on waivers.

I think Celek is the real deal. Last year, LJ Smith played a lot and it wasn't until LJ was completely out of the picture that Celek began to emerge. He had 3 TD's in the playoffs and one in the final regular season game. Before that, the team didn't really dial up plays for him in the red zone. He's tough and he plays with an attitude, and gets yards after the catch. He has been the leading receiver in catches both Eagle games this season, with different QB's!

I'd take him over Finley by a mile. As for Miller, it's close, but I'd still take Celek because the Eagles simply have more offensive talent. I'm not a Russel fan, in fact, Kolb looked better than Russell this week....whether you should waste a pick on this, I'm not sure.

Eagles season ticket holder here, and one of the guys who thought he was overrated this draft season b/c he isn't a very good athlete. That said, it's hard not to appreciate what he's done in the first two weeks. He's getting looks from both McNabb and Kolb, and has been the most consistent route runner on the team, at any position. With DJax gimpy, Curtis not looking right, Maclin not ready for prime time and Westbrook gimpy, SOMEONE has to catch the pass/pass/pass approach Andy Reid calls, and Celek is that guy.I misjudged him and would say he's a comfortable TE1 in PPR leagues and an awesome backup. Anyone that grabbed him late has to be thrilled. I wasn't one of them.

Dropping Zack Miller for Celek. Miller might be better talent, but the QB throwing the ball matters a lot. You want one that's not too good, but not horrible either (Jamarcus I'm looking at you...)

Celek would have had another easy TD if Kolb would have thrown an even remotely good pass that didnt go right to Sharper for a TD the other way.

IMO Celek is the guy to have if you cant get one of the big boys.

Celek looks to me as expected:

- Good hands, dependable receiver.

- Good routes, gets open.

- Tough to bring down after the catch.

- Blocks okay, but not great.

I think he is the Eagles TE moving forward for the next few years. And in that offense there WILL be targets aplenty.

Freakish atheletes are nice, but if they can't catch or can't run routes, they don't help you as receivers.

I'm not sure why Eagles fans were down on him coming into the season - probably because he isn't a pure athlete the caliber of LJ Smith. Problem with that analysis is that LJ Smith isn't a football player the caliber of Brent Celek.

He's a TE1

Zach Miller is probably a better tight end and overall athlete than Celek. The difference is... Celek plays with QBs that can actually throw a football.

Celek is still available. I know I want him, but I just don't know if I would have the guts to start him over Miller. Thanks for your earlier input.

I'll second what most have said already:

Good hands

Beast to bring down (2-3 tacklers often)

Over the middle, solid target

Also of note - he's best friends with Kevin Kolb, who also rooms with him on the road. Take that FWIW, but I'd not only pick him up but I'd start him this week.

He's the real deal and in a WCO that Philly runs a good TE can feast on all the targets. He won't go 20-25 yards very often, but 10-yard catches for firsts and some red zone looks are very likely. A Top 10 finish is certainly within reach, which is saying something given the TE quality in the NFL right now.

:thumbup:Loved him at Cinci, had some of the best hands Ive seen, Charmin Soft. There were a few of you I tried to convince after draft day, hopefully he continues to improve

Celek>>>Vernon Davis

Grabbed Celek as my TE2 with Olsen's early bye. Would love to sell Olsen but his stock is no where near where it should be. I think rolling with Celek all year can pay dividends, especially if you have a stud in front of him that someone is willing to overpay for.

I've got Celek, Scheffler and Shiancoe in dynasty. Both weeks I've started Shiancoe and I haven't regretted it with how Favre is dinking and dunking off passes so far. But Celek is looking like a breakout TE this year. I'm trying to move Scheffler but I can barely get a dozen doughnuts for him. I could use the roster slot to address other weaknesses, but I don't want to just give him away.

Celek's last five games, including the playoffs in 2008:

33-292-4

He's caught at least six passes in four of those games.

I think he's the real deal and he has Top 10 potential this season. I was concerned about him with Kolb but Kolb targeted him a ton.

I drafted him as my No. 1 TE in leagues this year. I rank him behind only Witten. But I am a homer. He is easily top 10, probably top 5 at this point. What more do you need to see? He started doing this last year when it was evident he was a better fit than LJ Smith.

Trying to grab him this week in FA. I own Keller so I'm putting both these guys in that same range (TE6-10 each week) He's sitting at TE6 now, has a bye next week, but I think a Platoon of Keller and Celek should give good depth. And you know that you can most likely sell off one of your TEs later on as injuries hit or guys don't pan out. There's about 12 viable TEs each year and every team needs one.
