hi all from central florida area,

looking for any input on prices for ac/heat pump unit. maybe a 2.5 ton.

my mom's just died and she received a quote of $8600. that is crazy to me.

i know we did a 2.5 and a 3 ton with heat pumps last year and it was less for both of those than for the 1 my mom was quoted on. we are in nc, but that sound like robbery.

a basic 2.5 ton unit with heat pump and coil should not be that crazy.

anyone done anything as far as replacing or installing in that area? going to try to call around for her tomorrow for some estimates but wanted to see what you guys have found.

thanks.

I seem to remember paying ~$5K for a unit that handles my 2000 SQ ft house about 3 years ago. That's in west palm.... So yeah that sounds high.

Anything "that big" you should get 2-3 estimates.

That seems really high - We just got a brand new unit here in SE Texas, so our weather is fairly similar to your Mom's. We got a 3 ton unit for a 1400 sf house, with brand new evaporator coils included (since the old unit was still using Freon everything had to be replaced at one time). Got a quality model (Trane), and our quote on the whole shebang, installation, removal of the old system, everything, was $4750.

Also, just in case you're looking into it, do note that heat pumps aren't very efficient in high heat/humidity environments like your Mom's - go with a standard AC.

Think that is to high.Call Browns out of Leesburg family owned very honest they are the ones I use when I have a problem they are very reasonable.

Shop around. You'll be able to beat that price. Don't believe I've ever paid much more than 5k on any property in FL/AZ. (Trane)

Installed a 3 ton unit in NSB last December for 4k. That seems to be about the going rate because we got a quote for a rental property last week for the same. Rheem/Ruud unit.

SW FL here and we paid about $3.5k for a 2 or 2.5 unit (forget which one) about 4 years ago. Regardless, $8,600 is ridiculous. Definitely get a few more estimates.

Thanks a bunch guys. Will call browns in Leesburg today. Mom is in poinciana and I'm not in Florida so not sure exactly how close some of the areas are being mentioned. Glad to see some of the prices here as money is an issue. Thanks again everyone
