CFL | League looking to develop drug policy
Published Wed May 31 4:52:00 p.m. ET 2006
(KFFL) Bloomberg News reports the Canadian Football League is working toward a league-wide drug policy. The CFL has no mandatory drug testing, letting its teams decide their own rules. The teams have had "soft" policies, according to Michael Copeland, the league's chief operating officer. Copeland said a CFL drug policy would focus on individual players, emphasize education and likely include screenings for performance-enhancers and recreational drugs such as marijuana. It also would have to take into consideration any costs associated with testing. Any plan would have to be agreed upon by the league's nine teams and the players association. Copeland said he thinks recommendations might be brought to the league's board of governors prior to next season.
Yes, they mean business. This after signing OSmith and Ricky in the last couple of weeks.
