In a league where you have to start two cb's.

I have the #12 out of 16.

I also have 3 2nd rounders.

My team is strong at pretty much every other position.

I don't see a better player than Champ in the first round that will win me a championship in 2007!!!!

I don't know about your league, but in mine, the difference between Champ and Charles Woodson was less than 2 points per game this year. In 2005, Champ was the #5 CB, in 2004, #18.

CBs tend to be cheap in that league, I'm pretty sure you could get any corner for a 2nd round pick, and we also have to start 2 CBs. If they cost more in yours, that changes things a little.

CB stats tend to fluctuate greatly, such that you can usually pick up one of several "unexpected" CB1's in free agency during the first quarter of the season if you're on top of things, Walt Harris being an example from this past year. I'd rather use that on a harder-to-get asset, such as an elite LB or DE prospect, and possibly a top TE or QB.

No way I would trade a 1st rounder for a CB! CB's (like WR's) are a dime a dozen. It seems you can always find a solid contributor on the waiver wire. Since you have an excess of 2nd rounders, if you must have Bailey I wouldn't hold it against you to trade a 2nd rounder. But like Redman said, I'd rather use that 1st rounder on a sleeper to add depth to my roster at a key position.

Your LB's are good and likely above average (frankly, you have so much depth and quality everywhere I'm questioning the competence of your leaguemates) but not great. They can be improved. I would think that Willis, for example, would represent a good opportunity for you to upgrade. My experience is, though, that in the second half of the first round in rookie dynasty drafts you can still be in position to draft the top IDP, and often the top TE; you can also pick up, depending upon the quality at these positions, very good QB and WR prospects. If you need a QB, do your homework and pick up one (or two) with your first couple of picks and sit on them.

How rare are CBs? Do you get points for return yds? When do top CB prospects go in the draft typically? What was the points difference between champ and other CBs this last season?

This question is very difficult to answer without knowing the makeup of your league.

One thing that pops up in my mind is that with 16 teams starting 2 CB every weak, the top 48-64 CBs are rostered. This deal may make sense depending on the answers to some of the questions above.

late 2nd early 3rd. rookie cb's are a crap shoot.

Champ was #1 last year w/ 27.12 per game.

#32 was 15.17 per game.

#16 was 19.81 per game.

I think spec1alk asks the important questions. If you think Champ Bailey is more valuable to you than the future/immediate potential of the player you'll get with the first round rookie pick in question, you should lean toward making the deal. I don't mind overpaying a bit in relative value (i.e. no one else would pay this price for this value/position), especially if you think this player significantly increases your chances of making the playoffs/contending for a championship.

Champ may see his stats take a hit in Jim Bates' defense, though. There won't be quite as much Cover-2 this season and it'll be easier for opposing quarterbacks to throw away from the side Bailey on which is playing man coverage.

I can't speak to the change to Jim Bates defense, Jene knows more about that, but based on what you replied here is what I see:

CB1=27.12/gm

CB16=19.81/gm

CB32=15.17/gm

CB16 scores roughly 73% of the pts that CB1 does.

CB32 scores roughly 56% of the pts that CB1 does.

In zealots (non ppr) last year through 13 weeks, Chad Johnson was the #1 WR with 159 pts. Lee Evans was #16 with 119.4. Isaac Bruce was #32 with 90.4.

Lee Evans scored about 75% of the pts of CJ. Isaac Bruce scored about 57% of the pts of CJ.

So, it looks to me that CBs in your league are about as important as WRs are in zealots.

Once you crunch this data, people who vote in this thread should ask themselves "Would I trade away the 1.12 of a 16 team league for a top WR who may be getting old but is a #1 overall at his position (a guy like holt, TO, Harrison, or DJax comes to mind).

Its tough to say, but Champ has put together back-to-back good seasons fantasy wise.

I am inclined to do the trade for champ, but I would like to see you throw in your 2nd and one of your QBs or TEs and have him send back a QB who is an upgrade.
