Footballguy
New film from Neill Blomkamp (District 9)

In the near future, crime is patrolled by an oppressive mechanized police force. When one police droid, Chappie, is stolen and given new programming, he becomes the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself.
I'm in.

Up next - in the future dinosaurs are real. A Tyrannosaurus rex escapes from a dinosaur park and attacks NYC.

looks like Die Antwoord are all over this. good/bad

should be an incredible trainwreck.
His films are great. How could Die antwoord ruin the movie by themselves?
Elysium was horrible. I enjoyed District 9 though. So he's 1 out of 2 for me... this is the rubber match.

I completely enjoy Die Antwoord for performance art- some of the songs are pretty great too as part of the videos. Dunno- I don't see them pulling off legitimate "acting". But I'm happy to be wrong on them, and I know I'll see this eventually

What was wrong with Elysium that you think it so much worsebthan District 9?

District 9 was way better than Elysium, which I didn't think was terrible. Maybe a bit cheesey. Agree that Blomkamp appears to be a pretty good director. I'll see it eventually.

I've seen the trailer for Chappie twice and I thought both times it was Robocop reimagined. But isn't there a Robocop remake coming?

thematically way too heavy-handed and obvious, especially after District 9 was already heavy-handed and obvious. mis-cast (foster especially), poorly written dialogue, too many plot holes/devices.

eta: and lacking the sense of humor that made District 9 more worthwhile. this was humorless bleh.

I liked it despite the fact that Blomkamp stole my plot.

Does Matt Damon make any other kind of movie any more?

I'll take a repetitive story told well over a unique pile of trash any day. No idea if this will be done well, but the fact it's not a particularly unique story line isn't something I'll hold against it.

I liked the symbolism of Elysium - the U.S./west being Elysium and 3rd world countries being Earth, but a little subtlety and nuance would have been appreciated. Blomkamp is turning out to be a left wing version of Heinlein.
