Chargers center Nick Hardwick gone for the season (1 Viewer)

Oh Yeah. This development is leading me to sell my Chargers. I want no part of this. The last time the Chargers' line fell apart, there wasn't a one of them any good for fantasy, reliability and consistency-wise.

Another reason to avoid Mathews this year. RBBC/usage is already frustrating enough. How does Hardwick rank as a blocker according to PFF and what about his backup?

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Chargers have lost veteran center Nick Hardwick for the season with a recurring neck stinger.Hardwick was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, four days before the Chargers play their home opener against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

Hardwick left Monday night's loss at Arizona with a sprained ankle. There was no word at that time about a neck injury.

Hardwick had been the starter since his rookie season of 2004. He started all 136 games he has played in while in the NFL and the last 67 straight.

Rich Ohrnberger replaced Hardwick on Monday night.
Yeah, they'll feel this. He is Philip's boy.

Yup. THe only guy Rivers has ever known. I re-read my first comment on this and thought it was perhaps a bit knee jerk but after reading this, I'm back on board.

Lead the charge and sell your Chargers. This injury should not be overlooked.

Rich Ohrnberger is presumably the new center. Here is his story:

New England Patriots

Ohrnberger was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft, with a pick they ultimately obtained from trading cornerback Ellis Hobbs to the Philadelphia Eagles. He signed a four-year, $2.20 million contract on June 16, 2009. The deal included a $451,000 signing bonus. Ohrnberger was active for three games for the Patriots in 2009, seeing time at right guard with starter Stephen Neal injured and backup Dan Connolly lining up at fullback.

Ohrnberger was waived by the Patriots during final cuts on September 4, 2010. He cleared waivers and was re-signed to the team's practice squad the next day. He was promoted to the 53-man roster on September 29, 2010, before the team's Week 4 game. He was active for two games in the 2010 season, both as a reserve.

Arizona Cardinals

Ohrnberger signed a contract with the Arizona Cardinals on August 1, 2012.

San Diego Chargers

Ohrnberger signed with the San Diego Chargers on March 21, 2013.
He was 1st team All Big-10 at Penn State in 2008, and he has five career NFL starts.

Still seems pretty knee jerk to me. I think I recall reading from Chargers fans that Hardwick has been declining for a few years, although he had a nice season last year. I'm pretty sure he was thinking about retiring before the 2013 season, too. This obviously isn't good news, but I don't think it will be a big impact. Selling all your Chargers would be foolish if based solely on this news.

:X :

Rich played pretty well on the series I was able to stay awake for. But certainly this is going to hurt. O line depth has never really been a bolts strength.

I'll be the first to say it's an extreme response but I just don't think as the season goes along that the line can hold up. I sold Matthews and Gates (don't own Rivers or Allen).

Of course, Matthews got hurt yesterday so can't really tell how that fits in. Gates had a phenom "turn the clock back" day so maybe I'll be crying about this one when it's all said and done.

But anyway, when I say things like that (along with a lot of my opinions on here), I am usually thinking long-term/dynasty. I rarely look at thing like "this will be good for next week". I usually base my thoughts around "what is going to help me in December".

TO the Chargers fans out there: What an incredible and awesome day yesterday was for you guys. Those kinds of games are what make you love the NFL (that's why they play the games, huh?).

#beachmode!
