Chargers RB #21 (1 Viewer)

Do you guys think Dwyer or Mathews would wear #21 if drafted by the Chargers? I ask because they both wore 21 in College

That would seem very weird to me to see another 21 in powder blue

I see a lot of LT in Mathews when I watch him run, so I don't think it would be strange at all.

I am guessing it would not be offered, but if so, I doubt either makes it onto the practice field with that number on.

No one will ever wear 21 for SD again
 If we're wrong I'll think a lot less of that franchise.
While I get how sentimental it is for fans....I think we make too big a deal about retiring numbers. If someone else wore 21, it's not like it takes away from what LT did in that jersey.
It's more about honoring and thanking LT for what he did while he was there. It does in a way take away from what LT did if they didn't retire it.

no way. LT is an all time great. maybe not top 10, but definitely top 20. the face of SD for a long time. if anything, it will be YEARS before someone wears 21 in SD

55 has never been issue since Junior left.

Lt is the greatest charger of all time. (some debate with Fouts, but not really)

His number will be retired

21 & 55 gone forever

San Diego has officially retired two numbers: Dan Fouts' 14 and Lance Alworth's 19.

Unofficially? SD hasn't given out Seau's 55 since he left; there's no question the Chargers will retire his number, I suspect they're just waiting for him to get out of the league first. San Diego also hasn't had any other player wear #18 since Charlie Joiner; now 18 isn't exactly a popular number (e.g, Darren Bennett's #2 and John Carney's #3 haven't been worn since he left, either), but it's possible SD has an unofficial policy there.

The Chargers have given out Kellen Winslow's #80; Malcom Floyd wears that now. They didn't retire Ron Mix's #74; Jacques Cesaire wears it now. And one could argue that both of those guys are higher on their all-time position lists than Tomlinson is on the running back list.

I imagine the Chargers want to retire Tomlinson's number; no reason to think they won't view him on the level of Fouts, Alworth and Seau. But even if they don't, I'd be very surprised if anyone wore 21 anytime soon in SD. As far as official retirement ceremonies go, I imagine SD will wait until LT retires.

I assume #21 will be held out this year and then retired down the road.

Interesting that LT is currently only at #8 on the all-time rushing yards leader board. I thought he was higher.

Just a side note about the Chargers #21:

Hadl wore #21 for all of his NFL career, and was the last regular starting quarterback to wear a uniform number greater than #19 before the NFL adopted a rigid uniform numbering system in 1973.

:tinfoilhat: I can see them not offering the number for a few years at least. Retiring the number would be considered much later.

What did he do? Run for a lot of yards against horrendous defenses during the regular season, then sulk and cry on the sideline during the playoffs, all while his QB played with a torn knee? What else did he do?

Some of the worst fishing I've ever seen here. Hit the trout farm pal, and don't forget to put the corn on the end of your string.
