Charlie Frye? (1 Viewer)

I did a search and couldn't find much on Charlie Frye.

What are your thoughts on him? Could he have a breakout season with all the offensive weapons in Cleveland (Joe Jurevicius, Winslow, Edwards, Droughns, improved OLine)? What kind of numbers can we expect from him?

That offense is going to take time to gel. This will be a run first offense with Droughns and a strong defense. Frye is a solid talent, but will be given the task not to lose the game for the Browns much like the situation with Baltimore in their SB year. I don't see him getting over 200 yards passing in a game much this year.

Depends on what you consider breakout.

M Carthon looks like he's running the dink and dunk again this year so I'm not expecting anything significant fantasy wise from Frye. Looks like the Browns are going to be running alot and relying on thier D.

Frye, 3500 yrds and maybe 16-18 tds and 12-14 ints would be a good year IMO.

schafk's yardage is a bit high, but I think the 16-18 and 12-14 is reasonable. I think long-term, he will be a reasonable mid-level QB for a few years, a servicable but not great QB2.

I'd put him somewhere under 3000 yards and at 15-16 TDs this year. The OL has issues, especially at center. Edwards is still not ready, Winslow is a ?, and mediocre Northcutt and Jurevicius are the top targets right now. I'm not expecting big numbers.

I've always felt Frye is the "get me over" answer at QB. He's cheap and they have no real commitment invested in the guy. I think the perfect scenario is that the Browns use him for 5-ish years, until such time that an excellent first round QB falls into their lap in some future draft.

Here are some examples of how Frye is a stopgap to something better.

The Denver Broncos football program first took off in the mid-1970s. They started to field strong clubs, but never had that great QB. Steve Ramsey. Craig Morton. From 1976-1981, 6 years, they never had a losing season. Then in the strike year of 1981, they had that fluke disaster season where they go 2-7. That eventually turns into John Elway. Thus, Elway goes to what already was a strong football program.

The Indianapolis Colts fielded decent clubs in the mid 1990s. From 1992-1996, they only had one losing record. Jim Harbaugh is the QB. Then they go in the tank in 1997, get the first pick in the draft, and take Peyton Manning. That meant Manning goes to what was an already strong program.

The Eagles are a strong football program in the 1990s. But they've got a revolving door at QB. Then in 1998 they have that one disasterous season and go 3-13. And that's where they get McNabb. Thus, McNabb goes to a strong football program.

No, the difference is Couch didn't go to a strong football program that had one disasterous season. The Browns today are building up the football program. They add 7 peices, maybe 2-3 get hurt. Keep doing that every year and the Browns will become successful in a hurry.
