Montana State linebacker Mac Bignell -- which I have to say is a tremendous name for a linebacker -- has given us an early nominee for hit of the year on the first full night of the college football season.

In Montana State's opener on Thursday night against Ft. Lewis, Bignell absolutely destroyed a running back looping out of the backfield on a checkdown.

I know they like to throw flags on hits like that, but honestly what is he supposed to do? Slow down let the guy catch it, or maybe even break a tackle and gain yards?

If anything, throw a flag on the QB for such a terrible terrible set up for that poor RB.

It probably would have been. It looks like there was some face mask to face mask contact, so that would have earned 15 and a fine.
