Chess Tournament 2025- Round 4 Pairings posted (2 Viewers)

12 in so far. We will start Monday. Let’s see if we can get any more.
Just remember to seed us properly.

As in you and Zow stay the **** away from me. :lmao:

(And thanks for organizing!)
Not trying to make excuses in advance, but I am not as sharp as I was last year and have played maybe 1-2 games the last 6 or so months. Will do my best to defend nonetheless, but I think my peak has passed.

Better than those of us whose peak has never come.

I’ll be fine if we can’t. Either way. No big deal. Thanks, though.
Anyone else want to join so that Juxt can?

Too late to get in? I was at a work conference all week and just now saw this.

@Juxtatarot I tried to invite you but you must have a different username. You're white anyway so just invite me when you have a chance.

We’re good. We’ve started.

I suggest we explore shifting to chess.com in the future. I've been playing turn based there and it's also a free service. The negative is that the workshop feature doesn't persist after you exit. The very nice plus is that after each game it will give you an analysis and walk you through where you made weak moves.

It is really informative. It only allows you one walk through analysis per day, but if you have already used it that day, you can just hit the reset bar and forward move by move and it shows the evaluation bar. Easy to tell when you or your opponent made a mistake or blunder.

With Chesstime I just email myself the PGN and you can analyze it with Chess.com or Lichess.

Woz beats Sand in a well played game. We played the Caro Kann exchange variation. Both clearly knew the opening so the first ten moves or so was even. I got a material and positional advantage with a “poison pawn” type move where it appeared he had a free pawn but there was a line that allowed me to fork his bishop and knight and get the advantage after a series of exchanges. Tip: always make sure that seemingly free pawn is in fact free.

Sand, you were lamenting some of your moves in the chat but I think that was your only mistake - or, at least, that was the only time in the game where you made a move that made me feel confident that I could take an advantage. You played well.

ETA: I do want to go back later and see if there was a good way for you to stop me taking control of c5.

Gave it a look. A5 may have been a mini blunder (though it made me pause and think pretty hard to find the right response when you made it).

I have to laugh now looking at the analysis - https://lichess.org/7IzFyIn1#47

Zow - not even an inaccuracy, 99% accurate. I might as well have been playing Nakamura (or maybe I just made all the decisions simple, though I thought it was a complex opening). I made one mistake (a5, as you noted - didn't consider the pawn advance properly) and one inaccuracy (e5). 90% accuracy - and I never came close to getting ahead. I can't be too unhappy with that kind of performance for a 1200 puke.

BTW, the "I haven't played in a while and am totally rusty" ruse has been thoroughly exposed!

Oh, before I forget - what we played is called the Caro-Kann, Panov-Botvinnik attack. Yep - never heard of it. We followed close to the main line until I chose C6 instead of Bb4, which is evidently the stronger way to go, though not a mistake per se.

Good game. To all my future opponents all I can say is if you do 99% against me you can crush me like a can, too! :lmao:

  • Thanks

Not being able to do conditional moves is the worst part of Chess Time. So many "takes, takes..." pre-moves could be done to move things along.
