Chester Taylor '09 = '08 LenDale White (1 Viewer)

Watching the Houston-Vikings game last night and it struck me:

Chester Taylor is going to have a career year and here's why:

1. Vikings D is terrifyingly good.

2. Peterson/Harvin/Farve equals lots of early leads.

3. Taylor is solid, pass-catching back who is already an integral part of the offense.

So what's going to happen when the 4th quarter rolls around and the Vikes are up by a couple of touchdowns and a field goal? I think they're going to run the clock out with a mix of Peterson and Taylor that favors Taylor.

Last year Taylor had four games where he got ten carries and caught four balls and scored a touchdown. So imagine two or three more games like that, plus throw in a big game like White had against the Chiefs last year (Taylor plays Detroit twice and the Rams once). That should be enough for a LenDale-like finish.

Going into next week's draft I was thinking of "stealing" one of my fellow owner's handcuff. That handcuff was going to be LeSean McCoy, but after last night I'll be targeting Taylor.

303/1216/4.0/6 42/288/6.9/0

That is Chester Taylor's career year to this point. I doubt very seriously he tops that. He should be quite productive with the way the Vikings use him, but I highly doubt, barring injury to AD, that Taylor has a career year. Also, you honestly see him getting anywhere near White's 15 TD's last year, with AD in front of him? His career high is 7 rushing TD's.

I think Taylor is a solid mid/late round pick, gonna be a flex plug in here and there... but with a healthy AD, there isn't near enough opportunity for Taylor to have a "career year". This is my opinion of course.

Way too many weapons on MIN for Taylor to apporach White's numbers, he has no chance. Zero. Not to mention Harvin will be eating into Taylor's touches, not ADP's.

Taylor is the only player I own in all my leagues this season and I own AP in none. He offers great value late in the draft in that he's not a terrible guy to use as a bye week or injury fill in and obviously should AP miss time he could produce starting numbers. That's a pretty worthwhile guy to have near his current ADP of around 120.

And while I do agree that he could steal some TDs and yards late in games, I do not expect anything close to LenDale 2008 numbers if AP is healthy all season. He could perhaps end up with similar total yards, but I can't imagine he approaches the TD total.

I like Taylor, he is a solid all around back. He runs, catches, and blocks well. But I wouldn't know what to do with him on my roster. His stats figure to be very inconsistent. His end of year numbers could be rosterable, but the fluctuation in number of touches from game to game would be tough to manage. One game he gets 17 touches, the next game he gets 6. Have fun with that.

Yea, "latrops" brings up good points in his post. While Taylor's numbers probably will be pretty decent at year's end, it's going to be really hard to guess when he's going to get 15 touches in one game and when he's going to get 5 touches in another game. If you have extra roster space on your bench and the AP owner in your league didn't handcuff with Taylor, I can see stashing Taylor away just in case AP goes down...if that happened, Taylor's value would skyrocket...and you'd be set. So...if I had the extra bench space and Taylor was available, I'd grab him..

way too many weapons? like who, Harvin? c'mon now..Rice? unproven.Berrian? nah..this is and always will be , a run-first team as long as ADP is on the roster.Harvin won't cut in to anyone's playing time this season, he'll be lucky to 'touch' the ball just 5 plays/gm.

if you're worried about someone 'stealing' carries or touches from Taylor, I'd look at Shiancoe...the dude's gonna catch a lot of balls this season..

did you notice how awkward the gadget/gizmo plays were last night? that'll last about 1 minute into game 1, when Favre and the coaching staff puts an end to it..

for as much as Minnesota would like to become a wildcat type of offense, the more things change, the more they stay the same.this offense is going to be closer to the Packers of 1996 than it will be to Dolphins of '08 ( wildcat-crazy)...

expect big things from Chester in 2nd half of ball games, and as a spot-duty filler for ADP...obviously has a tremendous upside with an injury to ADP.

but Harvin will not, in any way, steal any tangible amount of work from C. Taylor..

this Harvin hype has reached such a comical, fevered pitch it's ridiculous :football:

he's a Florida WR for Pete's sake...!

Yes, and that Florida WR spent 4 plays opposite of Adrian Peterson in the backfield during the first three series. Two of those plays were third downs, which last year was Taylor's forte. Chester touched the ball once in the first three drives and only saw the field on three plays. If ADP stays healthy, then Taylor won't even reach last year's numbers much less improve on them. Last year Taylor got almost every screen pass the Vikings threw. This year he'll get half of them with Harvin and Peterson getting the other half.

Even if Harvin is all he's cracked up to be, Childress is not going to be calling gadget plays in the second half if they've got a comfortable lead.

This crazy idea of mine is mostly based on what I saw from the defense last night. I think they're going to give bad-to-mediocre teams with weak O-lines an incredibly hard time this year.

So that means you start Taylor as your RB2 against Browns, Lions, 49ers, Rams, Lions, Seahawks and Bengals. I think you could get some surprising production on those weeks.

If you believe in RB2BC then he's an interesting addition to that list.

Is all I'm sayin' . . .

I ninja'd Taylor last year right before the ADP owner got him. ADP owner was pissed. I thought if ADP ever got hurt, I'd have a no brainer starter at RB.

Well ADP never got hurt. Taylor would bust out with a crazy game now and then, but he was always on my bench. I started him as a flex based on some juicy matchups/projected blowout mop up duty, but he did diddly.

I'll pass on this. If I could foresee the future and see which games Taylor could bust out in, I'd take another flyer on him. Then again, if I could foresee the future I would buy some lotto tickets and be too busy to play FF as I'm entertaining a dozen Maxim cover girls on my 50 foot yacht.

I've seen it noted in other threads but I'm in love with your avatar.

I used this reasoning when drafting him in the last round of my particular draft this year looks like I will be disappointed.

I thought the same thing last year, but he just didn't pan out in the way I expected. If AP gets hurt, he could be a Top 10 RB. That's a big if, though.
