Chicago Bears - NFC Championship Game Bound (1 Viewer)

GRIDIRON ASSASSIN

Footballguy
Many thanks to Pat Bowlen and Josh McDaniels for the kid from Santa Claus, Indiana. It was Christmas in April throughout Chicago!

Now that the Bears have a bonafide franchise QB, nobody will be stacking the line on Forte - and with no 'solid' WRs, it's no big problem - the Bears may have the best tandem of TEs in the league in Olsen/Clark.

It's all good baby... the Bears are goin' to the NFC Championship Game this year! I just feel sorry for the team that they'll have to meet there.

:)

The Bears may not even win thier division.

Green Bay looks like the team to beat with that high octane offense and a defense which will be much better than the Bears' D.

Well... good thing the Bears know how to kick the Packers A**. :lol:Bears homer here. :o

Their secondary is going to kill them. I don't trust any of their corners and unless Tommie Harris has a monster year they won't even make the playoffs. I'll take the Vikings and Packers over them anyday.

As a viking Homer, you will be shocked at how good this team will be with a functioning QB and stout D. In all honesty, this division is gonna come down to injuries. Which key players will get hurt to add crutches? wait and see

True dat - but Charles Tillman and Zack Bowman are their best corners, and Danieal Manning is their best nickel back - the question is will they make it back before the season starts.I never said the Bears would win their division btw. But what does that have to do with late season momentum and knocking teams off in the playoffs?

To go from one of the all time best return men to someone even better is ridiculous. Their field position is like getting a gift every game.

I say they played a terrible Denver defense last night. I was impressed with them but we'll see when the games really count. I see the Packers as the favorite with the Vikes and Bears close behind. I'm hesitant on the Vikes bc a man that should be in a rocker is throwing the ball. Granted, he's an upgrade over Tavaris but i'm not so sure over Sage.

May be it is just me but I didn't think the Bears 1st string offense looked all that good until the final drive of the 1st half and the Broncos defense is pretty bad.

I was more impressed when they picked apart the Giants D last week (which is not a terrible D).

Lets wait and see what happens when the real bell sounds.

11- 12 wins should put them in position for div champion battle with Minny and possibly GB. Should be a fun season in the NFC Central!

Bears are a slight favorite in my mind in the division right now over the Vikings and Packers and in the discussion for the best team in the conference. There is a good chance all three make the playoffs and are strong enough to get to the Super Bowl. The Bear defense was better than everyone thinks last year and will be very good this year if the starting secondary gets on the field. Cutler will not make them an offensive powerhouse and he will make his share of mistakes, but he allows for play calls that haven't been part of the offense and will stretch the defense with his ability to make all the throws. The running game will be better because of it and the defense will not have to be on the field all game. The offensive line now has 3 legit starting tackles and 3 legit starting guards. The special teams looks like it will be a big advantage in most games once again.

My concerns are defensive health concerns preventing peak performance (Harris, Tillman, Bowman) and the offensive tackles being able to handle speed rushers. And it seems that every team in the division is better this year (aside from those possible 4 game suspensions for the Vikings), even the Lions won't be a pushover this year.

Three teams with playoff talent don't typically inhabit these parts. I am looking forward to this season more than any in a while due to the strength of all three.

May be it is just me but I didn't think the Bears 1st string offense looked all that good until the final drive of the 1st half and the Broncos defense is pretty bad.
Shhh...I got laughed at night for saying this (though I added that prior to the last drive Cutler was getting out played by Orton)...but the point was the same. That last drive was very good though.

You should have been laughed at. A football game lasts four quarters - not one. The Bears eventually stepped up as an offense and the Broncos didn't. I guarantee you that Lovie feels a lot better about his offense than McDaniel does right about now. In terms of the NFC Championship, I am cautiously optimistic of the Bear's chances. They will have to stay healthy on the offensive and defensive lines. And somebody will have to put Rodgers on crutches at some point (sorry - just kidding - kinda sorta).

I think the NFC North and East are going to kick the crap out of each other. I can see the 2 Wildcard teams coming from these 2 divisions. I give a slight nod to GB over Chicago and Minny. Philly is the team to beat in the East.

Well...problem is we were not talking about one quarter. And to a point in time can be talked about given it was near the end of the half and when the starters would be in there.I gave Cutler credit for the last drive...(and I was not even one who mentioned he tried to end that drive early with a poorly telegraphed slant that was nearly picked off). But prior to that...it can be discussed. Football does last 4 quarters...preseason, the starters last about 2 quarters so it can be discussed as far as when they played.Yes...the Bears stepped up in that last drive against what amounts to a poor defense from last year.Nice drive and all...but I would have expected the Bears offense to do a little more than that during the game.

It's preseason, guys. Don't get too excited or too critical. The Bears offense looked good. But it wasn't regular season. Cutler 15 of 21 for 144 yards and a td is pretty good for a half. But it was the Broncos, after all.

Zack Bowman MAY be their 2nd best CB, but this is in reaction to Nate Vasher's play than anything Bowman has done since he only appeared briefly in a game last season, and has missed most of training camp after a strong start. He does have a lot of potential, but also a history of knee injuries. I think all three of these guys will be back before the season starts, but I have a lot of concern about Tillman's (back surgury, no longer how minor, is a big deal for a physical player like Tillman, and he's already coming off the shoulder surgury) condition....Manning has had that nagging hamstring injury since prior to camp, but they say he'll be ready. I expect both Manning and Bowman to get a few snaps on Thursday in their pre-season finale against the Browns.

Agreed that it took them awhile to get going, but I think bad starting field position played a major part in that. They got going in the 2nd quarter though..

Agree completely. Prior to the bears last drive the QB stats were: Cutler: 8/11 - 59 - 0/0 - 85.0 Orton: 12/16 - 96 - 0/0 - 89.58. Yes, the last drive looked good on paper but Goodman let an easy interception slip through his hands on the 2nd play of that drive. If Goodman hangs onto that ball Denver would have been 1st and 10 on the Chicago 11 yd line with 4:36 left in the 1st half and Cutlers stat line would have been at that point: 8/12 - 59 - 0/1 - 43.4 . Hardly the stuff of legends, especially against a 29th ranked defense. Cutler also got nice break with 00:37 left when he threw an incomplete pass and Dumerville takes a ridiculous roughing the passer penalty, so instead of being 2nd and 10 on the 30 they are 1st and 10 on the 15 yd line. Huge difference. This year Orton will eventually get Moreno and Marshall (yeah,I know) back, whereas Cutler was pretty much working with the best weapons he's going to have all year.In one of my dynasty leagues I have Cutler and Eli. Last year picking a starter was a no brainer, this year.........not so much.

Lets just consider for a moment that its going on September and we're wondering if the Bears defense can hold up their end of things. Never thought I'd live to hear that. :goodposting:

Sho nuff sounds like the idiot saying "I haven't seen Cutler look this uncomposed in a long time" or something like that after he avoided multiple sacks in the end zone.

They do?Last year they won after a blocked FG and got hammered the other game.
7-3 in the last 10 beetch1-0 in Superbowl appearances in the last 10 beetch

I still think GB looks a little better at this point and their D is underrated in my mind.

However, I wouldn't be surprised to see a NFC playoff game between the Bears and Packers at Lambeau this year. How awesome would that be.

Not as sweet as if it were in Soldier. Then I'd already have tickets. :)

I'm not sure how their defense gets any better than last year. 8-8, 9-7 tops.
It gets better because they have a QB capable of running 5 minutes off the clock on 98 yard drives. Rather than knowing there's a 90% chance Kyle Orton will go 3 and out and they're going to have to get right back on the field.

Just a quick point about the whole "4 quarters", the starters, and the weakness of the defense in preseason:In the last two preseason games (Giants and Broncos) the Bears #1s have outscored their opponents #1s by a tally of 34-6 in what would equate to about 4 quarters of football. That's pretty good. I'm just saying.

Sho nuff sounds like the idiot saying "I haven't seen Cutler look this uncomposed in a long time" or something like that after he avoided multiple sacks in the end zone. :)
I saw him avoid those sacks. On one the holding by Pace against Dummerville was beyond blatant even though not called. On the other Cutler got so flustered he threw a ball into the arms of a defender who could not hold on to the pass.

Why everyone keeps stating the Bears defense was bad last year...21st in yards allowed30th in passing yards allowedWhy everyone is wrong...6th in yards per play9th in net yards per pass attempt (includes sacks)3rd in yards per rush2nd in turnovers

NFC North v AFC North this year...Steelers and Ravens will break your backs and make you humble.

Favre's season ends 10/25/09.

Bears start season 0-2

Packers get playoff kick to the nutz on 12/20/09

And we go back to the site of our 5th Super Bowl win 10/11/09, Detriot

Pace is gonna get cutler killed this yr. he might be ok against stronger slower pass rushers. speed guys are gonna eat his lunch.

I don't have a dog in this race, but I think the Bears will finish third in the division. I can also say that there is no way that the Bears beat Seattle this September.

Who knows?

The mystery is why Denver traded a young franchise QB just entering the prime of his career. That will haunt the Broncos for years.

The Lions have been searching for a franchise QB for 40 years, and the Broncos give one away.

not only that but the Bears were 9 -7 last year, with the same bad defense, accept now we have a franchise QB. I think its fair to say they would get 2 more wins last year if they had Jesus H Cutler.

where's the game at?i like the home team in that one. although, i think the Bears are prolly a better team than the hawks, overall. so im not sure how theres no chance for them.

they traded him because he threw a fit.im not sure cutler is all that. physically sure, but he might do the same thing in Chicago if things dont go his way.

The problem is the rest of the nfl changed, the schedule is not the same, different players will likely get hurt, etc.Cutler may be the guy that puts the Bears back in the NFC title game but right now they are 0-0 and I certainly wouldn't base any wins on the performance I saw last night.

It took me until the last week or so to believe the Broncos traded Cutler to the Bears. It finally has sunk in. I am not predicting Championship games yet. But Cutler should take a bottom 10 offense and elevate them to a a top 10-15 offense while the defense which was above average last year should be even better this year. That sounds like a playoff team.
