Chicago Bears on Offense (1 Viewer)

Going position by position on the offense, how confident are you in the Bears to get the job done offensively ???

QB: Rex Grossman should be the starter barring injury, and Brian Griese will be a very dependable backup, and could push Grossman. Kyle Orton is 3rd string. Rex Grossman is going to take chances down the field, but injuries have been a problem for him and Griese. Does Grossman come into his own this season ? Does Griese overtake Grossman ? Personally, I love the depth, and I do like Rex, but I wouldn't say the Bears are more than average at QB.

RB: Thomas Jones, Cedric Benson and Adrian Peterson. I don't think there's any doubt that Benson is going to get more carries this season. He's predicting 1700 yards rushing, and Jones' contract could make him a holdout. Assuming the Bears open camp with all 3 healthy, this is a great trio. Peterson is also productive with his carries as well, but he'll be more of a change of pace, 3rd down type back.

WR: Mushim Muhammed couldn't catch last season, but he also didn't have a QB throwing too him (sorry Orton, you were ok for awhile, but you bottomed out). Mark Bradley looked very good before his injury and Bernard Berrian may have been the best WR on the roster the last 1/3 of the season. Can Muhammed rebound this season ? I love the talent here, but like the QB spot, it's hard to feel great about this position when so many are unproven.

OL/TE: Tight end, Desmond Clark, is in great shape, but he's a dud until he isn't. In other words, get it done on the field during a real game. The OL, Tait, Rueben Brown, Olin Kruetz, Roberta Garza/Terrence Metcalf and Fred Miller is one of the better lines in the league, but it is an older one, and doesn't have a ton of depth - Freidman and St.Clair at the tackles, and Metcalf on the interior.

All in all, I think this offense has some pretty good talent (Grossman, Berrian, Bradley, Benson), but all unproven.

Maybe I'm overconfident, but the Bears should have a great defense again, and they also restocked the depth defensively during the draft. If this offense can score 20 points a game, how many games do the Bears win ? I say 11-12.

What say you ?

Let's break down the Bears offensively.

I agree. With that defense, all the Bears offense needs to do is be average or better and they should win 11-12 games.

Nothing flashy, nothing spectacular. Just manage the game, hold on to the ball, and move the chains. The defense will put you in position to win.

If the Bears can average 20 PPG, they should 12+ games with ease...

For NFL purposes, I think the Bears offense will be fine. Having Grossman healthy will make a huge difference. They are deep at RB, and good enough at WR. They'll be solid.

For fantasy purposes, I'm not liking them a lot. They'll emphasize the running game, which decreases Grossman's and Muhammad's value; and they'll (probably) split carries between Jones and Benson, which decreases their value.

I think the key to improvement is the pickup of Griese. IF Grossman gets hurt again, the Bears will not miss a beat and may actually click with Griese. The run game is solid though there is some possible turmoil there. Jones is still the superior back because of his knowledge of the system and his pass catching and blocking skill set. If we can see health and improvement in the WR group this could be a sleeper offense.

Bears also have an easy schedule, especially within the division. Anything less than 10 wins is a dissapointment.

As a Bears fan, I'm never very confident about their offense. If they're average or better, I'll have to see it to believe it.
