***Chicago Bears Thread*** Ben Johnson hired. The Resurrection Begins! (6 Viewers)

If there is no starting qb market for JF, the best thing to do would be to keep him and let him start the season. Bring Caleb in mid-season or whenever the time is right. I see it as a win-win as long as they can remain professional about it.

Doesn't how many times you say this. It's not happening. His market would be excellent, if he were as good as some in here seem to think he is.

I think JF needs to accept reality and it's not in the Bears best interest to hand the keys to Williams day 1.

But since it's the Bears, they will probably trade Fields for nothing and start Williams before he is ready.

The smart play is to use JF as a bridge QB and let him walk next season.

Logically, that sounds like it would be the best move, but the league doesn't exist in that world anymore and it's not just because it's the Bears. They suck. We all know that. But that's separate from them trading Fields for what he's worth. It's a sunken cost at this point.

Why do you feel Fields and Williams can't co-exsist for one season?

They could, if forced, but it wouldn't go well. Poles has already come out and said he wants to do right by Fields. Fields feels he's a starting QB and knows his days would be numbered once Williams is drafted. The guys these days are just too weak mentally to handle it and rise above it and better themselves and show teams how wrong they are. They usually crumble and pout and end up causing drama instead.

It just isn't a good business decision to trade Fields for less than a 3rd when they can recoup a pick in the same round and have him on the squad in 2024. I just don't see Poles making that trade unless he can get assets better than what he'll get by letting Fields walk after 2024. All the talk about egos and drama is nonsense. These guys are being paid a lot of money to play football. If that means Fields holds a clipboard for a year then so be it. If that means Williams is the #3 for a year while he learns a system, then again, so be it. If Fields is as terrible as some of you think, he'll be the on the bench in favor of the rookie sooner rather than later.

I'm not saying that won't happen and cause drama. I'd just hope they could both be the professionals they are paid to be.

I'd rather risk that route and have two capable QBs on the roster vs trading JF for a marginal pick and then being forced to spend cap space on a different bridge QB or going into the season with Williams and Bagent only and having the most inexperienced QB room in the league.

People keep posting this like a 3rd round comp pick will be an automatic thing. He'll be signing a 2023 Baker Mayfield level prove it contract at best after the 2024 season after backing up Williams all year. The Bears are going to be heavy in free agency this year and next year with the cap space they have. Keeping Fields in 2024 will likely net them nothing.

Ok, assuming that's the case, is a 6th rounder worth more than keeping him around as a backup for 2024? Still not a good business decision.

All nonsense, eh? Just watch what happens, then.

Can't say I'm happy seeing all these interior lineman get signed and nothing on that front from the Bears yet.
Yeah, I don't love the priority so far. I wanted a RB upgrade, but it was 6th on my list to upgrade.

Byard and Swift scare me because how bad the Eagles imploded last season. Neither deal is a homerun.

Just have to look at the Cousins contract to see how poorly Fields is looked at by the league. 100 million guaranteed to a 35 y/o above average qb coming off an achilles year, instead of what would probably be a 3rd rounder at best for Fields and a fraction of the salary.

BEAR DOWN, CHICAGO BEARS!!!

I've been a Bears fan for 32 years and for the first time since we traded for Jay Cutler, I have expectations for this team! We get the 1.01 QB?

We never get the 1.01 QB!! It's always somebody else, the fact that Bears fans want to keep Fields shows how low the bar is set for the fans of our franchise, lol!

Get us Caleb and a WR to pair with DJ Moore and we're winning the North, baby!!

Coming in with one of the largest amounts of cap space, Poles is ****ting the bed for 2nd year in a row so far in free agency.

Bro we got a Safety and a Runningback!! Who would you have wanted us to get?

I am happy for the first time since the double-doink, stop and smell the roses!!
I'm going to hold off on a declaration of bed ****ting at this early stage of FA, but I do share Flapgreen's concerns. Paying market rate+ for RB would have been my choice only after securing positions of greater importance. It could be fun, I'll enjoy watching Swift, but I'd rather have seen that money go to cushenberry, greenard, bryce huff, or any position of greater need combined with greater positional value. I'm cautiously optimistic about this season, but I see NO way, even with Caleb and Odunze (fingers crossed) that the bears can win the NFC North this year. I think Green Bay and Detroit are the class of the division.

I'm just saying fellas, this looks like it's going to be the BEST OFFENSE in franchise history.

Generational QB. Best RB since Matt Forte. Best WR combo in franchise history.

I don't even care about the defense. I want to see the Bears putting up 30 points a game.

Enough is enough!!

I will always care about the defense, I feel that is essential to the Bears identity. Also, Caleb Williams is a generational prospect, who knows how that will translate to the NFL. He could easily bust, or just be average. I see lots of eggs, but I'm not counting any of them until they are chickens.

Unlike you, I am ordering my #13 jersey as soon as it becomes available. Rose tinted glasses over here.

The suffering is over! Get that gold jacket ready. Measure those arms. I want our franchise, Super Bowl winning quarterback looking fresh in his induction ceremony.

What I love about your comments is that they are equally enjoyable as schtick or as honest proclamations. I just re-read your posts from both of those vantage points, if you are trolling, then it is really artful, if you are serious, then it does give me a slight increase in optimism. Well done Sir.

Smells like trolling

I wouldn't so much tap the brakes as slam on them.

Caleb is a great talent, but generational is strong, and that's the most agreeable of the 3. Swift is JAG and is no lock to hold off Herbert, nor is he better than Monty. Blows my mind that he got close to the same amount as Jacobs. Brandon Marshall/Alshon Jeffery was an elite combo for a couple years there. DJ Moore/rookie has a long ways to go to be considered on that level.

Williams and Hunter would be nice
We can't afford both seeing these deals coming in.
Seems that teams like the Rams and Eagles do it all the time. There are ways to make things work, but many teams just don't understand how, so they continue in years of failure like the Bears. All this cap space and fearful of making a bad move, instead of just throwing the kitchen sink at protecting the qb and getting after the other team's qb. The Bears can afford whatever they want.

If Fields had made as much progress and was as strong as some seemed to think, he wouldn't have been ignored as much as he was today. No one wants him for a reason

Just amazing to me that there are fans of this team that really thought it was the right move to trade the first pick AGAIN just in case Fields turns the corner. Really one of the craziest things I've seen in my Bear fan existence which is like 35 years.

He's a great kid and fun to root for but what kind of trance were these people in? That they completely ignored reality for him.
