***Chicago Bears Thread*** Ben Johnson hired. The Resurrection Begins! (5 Viewers)

It's more coaching than who's catching passes or blocking.
It's both.  Watch the tape and see how little separation the WRs get.  It's bad and when he does try to get the ball to them it's dropped or getting knocked down.  This WR group is not winning any battles, they just are not good enough right now.

You don't think the coaches affect the WRs routes and predictability of the offense, which affects their ability to get open?

I think they go together but the WRs are still responsible to running good routes and being physical with defenders.  You know as well as me that this group of WRs are not that talented.  There isn't a player that can fight for a ball like Jeffery could.  The only time the WRs are making catches and getting yards is when they manage to wide open, which isn't often.

The one player who seemed to be able to make contested catches is now most likely done for his career.

I'm not taking up for the WRs. However, I think their deficiencies are magnifed by the current coaching staff. Good coaching does the opposite. I put the struggles of everyone on offense more on coaching than the players. Let's see what happens next year with a slight improvement in talent and a huge improvement, hopefully, on coaching.

:(  Poor guy.  Really pulling for him here.  I can totally understand Kendall Wright's frustration with the SAINTS and the NFL for the looping replay on the JUMBOTRON.
I was pretty pissed tv kept reshowing it. I know it was under review, but that was a gruesome injury, no need to watch him lose his knee and maybe his leg over and over from every angle...

Barth ranks last in the league in FG% on kicks from 40-plus yards, finished second-to-last in 2016. Kickoff distance among worst in league.

Anyone with a brain knew Pace should've shipped out Barth. He didn't. Another reason to question his thinking sometimes.

I won't argue against the coaching staff sucking.  I'm with you on that one.

Keeping things in perspective, Miller's knee is more important than any issues the Bears have. Hope he can get back to a normal life. He has kids. Everyone says he's a great guy.

I'll go further on this. He cut Robbie Gould, who has been spectacular since. Then he brought in Aguayo and paid the $400K for submitting the claim.  So Pace KNEW that Barth sucked, brought in a bum and paid him $400k for nothing.  Aguayo was, well, Aguayo. So they keep Barth.

In the meantime, Jake Elliot was claimed from the Bengals practice squad and is KILLING IT in Philly...so you could say "hey, the bears just didn't know about Elliot".  Well, he's from Chicago, and he was at the senoir bowl where the bears GARBAGE coaching staff actually had him on their squad and coached him.

EPIC FAIL!!!

Plenty of teams have missed on kickers.  When it comes to kickers and how mental their position is it can be very hard for a team to evaluate them.  The Bears were not the only team to miss on Elliott.  I thought the Aguayo signing was smart and it could've turned into another Elliott story but it didn't.  Sometimes there's a lot of luck involved.

This is why I would never use a draft pick on a kicker, EVER.

This jury is hitting me hard and its not because I'm a Bears fan either.  It was hard to watch and just the chance he could lose his leg over a game really puts things in perspective.  As fans we are so conditioned to seeing concussions, we know its potentially a serious problem down the road, but I don't lose sleep over it.  Seeing Miller running on Sunday to possibly losing a limb a couple days later is harder to stomach.

Missing on a kicker would've been cutting Barth after 1 season of poor performance. The Bears are going into their 3rd year with this dud. Surely, he'll be gone by next week.

This is his 2nd year with the Bears and no one knows if he'll be around for the rest of the season.  He's actually had a pretty good career until he got to the Bears.

Bears say ILB Jerrell Freeman has been suspended by the NFL 10 games for his latest violation of the PED policy. He's currently on IR

Well Freeman is done.   With how Jones is playing and Kwiatkowski coming back, it shouldn't affect the defense much.

Top of the list of guys to re-sign is Fuller and Jones.

Sounding like Freeman is done with football in general after his statement.  He's been struggling with memory loss due to head injuries.  Crappy week for the Bears and their players.

WTF this is ridiculous.  Once, hey I'm cool with that, stupid, but I get there is a long list of banned substances, and if any one of those is in a supplement you take you are gone.  That being said, the NFL and team have plenty of resources to avoid this, and a second suspension is beyond stupid.  Unless there is a major outstanding circumstance that Pace knows about, he needs to be cut before he costs us another dime.  The guy is a tackling machine, but you just can't deal with this multiple times.  As flap said the younger linebackers have been coming along nicely and when healthy should be able to pick up his slack.  Jones, Kwiatkoski, and Timu lead by Trevathan doesn't seem like a bad ILB core at this point.

Ouch... if that's the case can I take back my last post and just wish him the best in future endeavors...

wow, kinda a second sobering reminder this week of what the game of football actually does to you.
I don't want to make this thread political but I think it's important to remember that these players are humans just like us.  They are not just entertainers and they do not need to know their place.  They do not need to keep their mouths shut.  They need to look after themselves and their families just like we do.  This is don't like to criticize a player for trying to get a big contract or kneeling or doing anything else to try and better their lives.  We all only have so many opportunities in life so do the most with it.

Throw a few million dollars at almost anyone out there and they'll take the chance on getting caught with roids.  I've always been in the minority, but I don't hold it against them. I disagree with it and think it's a bad thing. I'm not 100% sure what I would do in the situation.

Has the Shaheen / Depth chart issues been talked about at all?  Is he that bad at blocking that the Bears wont put him on the field?

It's actually the opposite.  He's on the field a lot but not getting used in the passing game, he's being used to block.

Overall, the Bears lost about 400 points in trade value to move up one and make sure they got Trubisky.  Also get to keep him under rookie deal for 5 years at a bargain for a franchise qb and can spend that money elsewhere.

49ers gave up early 2nd, which is valued close to 600 points AND they will pay him a huge contract starting next year.  Bears got hammered. 49ers will be applauded. Some perspective to have when the "analysts" start rambling on next time when something big goes down. They really have no clue on what they're talking about most of the time.

Terrible pick
I think it's too early to say that was a terrible pick.  I know they are not using him the way we all want them too but he is on the field a lot.  Lets not forget that rarely do rookie TEs do that well.  I don't think we will have a good enough idea on him until after next season.

Only time will tell which team made the right move.  It's over now and the Bears have their QB.  Hopefully the Bears do everything they can to help make him successful.

Greg Gabriel gets it.

If you don’t think the Garoppolo trade is an indictment of ‘18 QB class than you don’t understand how front office people think

Bears need to get off their asses for once and go after one of these WRs potentially available. But it won't happen. They love being bad

We are already down some picks this year, I'm not sure I'm up for trading more away for new WR's.  I think we pretty desperately need our 1st and 2nd round picks, don't think we have a 3rd, and I'm not sure anyone that will really help us in the future is available for a 4th or lower.

Now maybe a player trade, but the only player I could think that could have some trade value would be Fuller, but not much as his contract is up at the end of the year and he's not a QB.

What are you thinking?  Only WR's available I know of are Landry and Hilton, both would be expensive.

I'd give a 2nd for Hilton or Landry.  Otherwise, a later round pick for someone like Pryor, Caroo, or Stills. Probably plenty of guys down the depth chart on other teams that could help us a lot for pennies.

Deonte Thompson has 12 catches/193 yards since #Bears decided he wasn't good enough. #Bears WRs TOTAL over those 3 games: 8/159

I was thinking about that while watching the end of the game last night.  Just goes to show how terrible the staff is at either evaluating talent or utilizing the talent they have.  I'm done with them.

Check out Alshon lighting it up in Philly and Thompson in Buffalo. Great roster moves!  Will end up being a blessing and get Fox out quicker.

Aaaaand they're keeping Barth. Great decisions all around for this organization. :guninmouth:
